Star Citizen Discussion Thread v11

There's a fun discussion going on over on Spectrum at the moment about how many new systems in 2021 (as if they have already given up on new systems coming in 2020).

Some making bold predictions of there being 50 new systems per year if CIG wanted to! Or more! (barebones of course).

The most reasonable backers are lowballing with some optimists thinking maybe even 5 or more systems per year.

They don't seem capable of following through on their thoughts though. Even assuming they could complete 5 new systems a year, that would be 20 years before they hit 100. By that point probably a good percentage of orginal backers will be in their graves, hell, CR might be as well. And 5 new systems at the level of fidelity CR wants per year is highly unlikely even if they have all the tools and pipelines they could possibly imagine. I mean, CR has to first approve the fashion style for the citizens of each planet.

Why would someone pay more?
Non-existent perks and cosmetics were given to very early backers. Here's a list:

Why would someone pay more?

Newsreel announcer: Young and old people from all over the globe are saving up to fund the future.
Concierge #1: I'm doing my part.
Concierge #2: I'm doing my part.
Concierge #3: I'm doing my part.
Entry-level Backer: I'm doing my part too! [other backers laugh]
Newsreel announcer: They're doing their part. Are you? Join the Commando Infantry and save PC gaming. Pledging guarantees citizenship. Would you like to pay more?

Looking forward to that expansion disk. Not sure what i will do with it though. I don't even have a disk drive any more.

Remember, CR is going to save PC gaming!

Still waiting for it to need saving first though.
Somewhere around the year 2010 it was actually died out though, those years were the worst generation for pc gamers where all you could play were mostly mainstream console action oriented games.

Indie games didn't exist at that time because game engines weren't truly opened up for the masses, crowd funding and early access didn't exist yet.

Why do you think the propaganda existed in the first place and why it worked to some extent?

Genuine Roberts also promised pandering to the needs of serious PC gamers :D

All the controllers, all the cores, all the RAM, all the storage, all the bandwidth available to PC's would be made available in Star Citizen - and they would absolutely obliterate the then-current limits of the Xbox 360 etc to deliver a Genuine Roberts experience.

The Xbox 360 is dead and gone. It's replacement is dead and gone, and it's replacement's replacement is due later this year.

We are still waiting for CI-G to release one game :D

Only when you knew about CR. I remember seeing the project for the first time and thinking it was something to get behind. I was short on cash then so I didn't.

I was told about this by some friends and as soon as I saw the shop and learned you had to buy ships for hundreds of dollars in a game that didn't exist... Well you know that simpsons meme where the guy walks into the bar spins around and walks back out, yeah.

I think this is something the whales dont understand. While they are busy congratulating each other over spending thousands on the game, the fact that its possible (even if not required) is a major turn off for many people.

I remember a handful of offers for "pledging" when I first saw it. It wasn't easy to see whether you'de get something finished or "to be released" from the polished and shiny webpage. It also transported being a crowdfund effort rather than sale - it must have been after the kickstarter though. It kinda looked dubious. For CR I didn't really care - I wasn't a big fan of Wing Commander - I think Lucasart's Tie Fighter and X-Wing did it way better.

Here we are eight years later, countless more PC games released and not one of them by CR :(

Then one of the faithful would cherry pick a few examples of bad games released and use those to justify how badly PC gaming needed to be saved.
