Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

Ooh, nice!

Question: in my last session, I came across a derelict freighter, as well as a Korvax craft that needed emergency repairs (he buzzed me for help on comms). Are those some of the new additions to the game? I never encountered that stuff before, but I am still working my way through the main campaign, so I am not sure if it is new content or just content I unlocked.

They've been there for a while. The crashed freighter have storage containers buried. You can find some stuff there but you'll get radiated when you open them. One thing you can find is a token (can't remember the name right now) that you need to buy upgrade blueprints for your own freighter.

Envy here as I've yet to see either of those. Blooming flip, this game is really starting to define the word 'epic'.
I've only found a few crashed ships. Sometimes, can't remember how, I've been pointed to some of them by some NPCs in the space stations.

Today, first in a long while, I found a derelict/abandoned space station. They're still the older design of space station, and I found a sort of bug that I report today. :)

And regarding "epic", there's so much in the game now so it's not even easy to write a summary of things you can do and find. I'm still finding planets and plants that are very unique and different.

Oh, I should have been clearer. Not the frigates that crashed planetside, but frigates torn apart...in space! Yes, space wrecks seem to be coming our way:

It's true! NMS is now brimming with stuff to do and see! I just activated my first portal:

I added some light-bleed effects to suggest power radiating from the portal and corrupting the image. :giggle:

Right! Yeah, that's totally new.

To compare, Elite always had 95%+ of the stuff to find and do in space, and only 5% on planets, while NMS was the reverse, almost everything is on planets and much less in space, but they're added things to do in space. And I love it!

Congrats! Mark it or build a base there. You never know when you might need to go back and use it. I was stupid. I had one marked with a base, and then... idiot as I am, removed it, and now I have to go and find a new one

Awesome! It's being released now it seems.

There is a reason why I've played over 60 hours of NMS this year and only like 3 hours of Elite. I really don't see that trend reversing any time soon, lol.

Can't wait to get home and play some more NMS tonight with this new patch!

I'm still holding out hope that they will make some changes to the way base ownership works, and allow shared base ownership (and hey while we're dreaming - carriers) between at least 4 people. This is really the make or break feature for me as far as multiplayer goes. Otherwise, yeah I'll probably reinstall at some point but I'm going to give up on it as an online game because the multiplayer just isn't fun when you can't freely share and pool your resources to build something together ala Minecraft.

And uh . . . with all the new space interactivity, a flight model revamp can't be far off, right? Right? . . . guys?

This is how you do it FD: https://kotaku.com/latest-no-mans-sky-update-lets-players-grow-their-own-l-1841786405

Update - 11:41am: Here’s Murray on Twitter explaining how the living ships were sneakily introduced to players over the past week. Pretty cool!

“This last week or two has been a lot of fun for Hello Games and hopefully the community. It all started with a mystery egg...Our weekly community mission was to unlock a mysterious egg shaped object (instead of our more normal weekly content drops) and then things got weird. If you bought an egg and kept it in your ship there was a tiny chance it would begin to whisper, piecing those whispers together led to a planet where the community could find more clues to try and hatch the egg. Late last night through their hard work players began to unlock new features in an experimental build. It was a super lovely moment for the team here and hopefully for the community too.”

When was the last time FD did something inventive like that?

...trailer...

....what did that funny pulsing and fade mean at the end of the video!?

Did they just announce a new feature whilst teasing the next?

It's great to read that HG are enjoying us exploring and enjoying their game. Sounds like we're set fair for another year of free updates. Amazing!

So far, the only thing I know right now how to do it is to get the egg (Nexus, Quicksilver purchase), put it in your inventory, make a couple of warps to trigger the new egg-quest. That's as far as I know at the moment.

Something I'd like to do in multiplayer is to have a group of people and build a whole city. Not sure the LOD complexity can be handled though, but I think of... 2nd life in space. :D

Also, I want more space stations in space, not just planetary things. Elite does have more of a true star-system feel with the stars, planets, and stations. NMS is very poor when it comes to the things in the sky. Rich on land, but not much up there.

Multicrew in some bigger ships. NPCs walking around and doing things in capital ship. Having to make sleeping quarters. Maybe have access to engine and repair, do things there. Have full access to the frigates. And more...

Big wishlist.

Well done to HG for their next update.

Conversely it shines a somewhat poor light on other developers - HG bring out what would be considered a major update, if not DLC, several times a year.

Precisely. Look at what Sean wrote with this release:

You might have noticed that since Beyond launched we’ve been experimenting with something new. We have been releasing regular feature updates every month or so, along with community missions and new content every week.

In previous years we have focused the team around one large update. We’ve been really proud of the work we did on these huge updates like NEXT or Beyond, but something always bothered us… there was normally 8 months or more where we were silent, and the community was left wondering if we would ever update the game again! Meanwhile there were smaller features that were ready earlier, but had to wait until all the other work they were wrapped up in was complete.

Whilst we continue to work on more radical things longer term in the background, in the meantime we are experimenting with releasing content we know the community would enjoy as soon as we’re able.

We are enjoying these more regular updates, and the community seems to appreciate them too. This January had more players on all platforms than any previous year, and the average player enjoys longer and more varied sessions across the board. Hopefully folks will be excited about the surprise of the Living Ship update too.

We hope players enjoy this new update, hopefully the first of many in 2020.

Our journey continues.
Sean

This stands in stark contrast to...other developers that can't even keep a launcher looking presentable with a team the same size as the entirety of Hello Games. 🙄
