Things to actually do in ED?

The only thing i've ever had to do in elite was sandbox experimentation. Ie, come up with an idea, wonder if the result will be fun, give it a go. A ship not tried before, a sandbox activity, something in the mission boards, new weapon types, new flying styles. Basically a constant stream of "sandbox missions". When its time to do something else, you fill the gaps naturally between these.

Also if you were serious about eating "grinding" as something normal you do every day... maybe try other games who make an effort into it.. their grinding systems are endless, designed to actually make you feel good about doing it, and probably monetized as well. Connecting the idea of grinding will elite will kill you. You don't even get a popup box when your grinding is finished. It doesn't even tell you when you've finished. No achievement nothing. So you've technically wasted all your time.

If the sandbox dries up then its time to move on.. until you can invent something else to do.

Also i came up with one on the weekend.. turret weapons on smaller ships (ie, python and krait). Having a blast and refactored the fleet.

Yeah OP this has been the issue with the game since literally day one. And it's very disheartening that after all these years it still hasn't been addressed in any significant way. I really hope the next two big updates change the game. Elite will never reach its potential and will die off if they don't address this core problem.

What do you guys do when you have all the ships and all the money so there's nothing left to grind for?

Code:
Scenario: a player squadron "Aggro" (not having BGS in its home) decides for some reason to attack the squadron/PMF "Defo" (which has BGS) roughly 200ly away.

Situation: squadron Aggro engages squadron Defo in PvP (pews pews) and attacks squadron Defo's BGS.

Developement: pews pews fade away, but BGS attack keeps going. Squadron Defo cannot retaliate as squadron Aggro doesn't have any BGS.

Conditions: squadron Aggro submits conditions to squadron Defo, threatening the latter with a never stopping BGS attack until:

---> some players/leaders of squadron Defo are banned forever and tags removed, as well as never allowed to wing up with Defo members anymore
---> a member of Aggro becomes overlord of Defo and nominates new leader for the future

In other words: in this scenario, squadron Aggro uses a BGS attack, threatening to never stop it until the Defo PMF is wiped away from its systems, arrogating the right to decide who is going to lead the Defo squadron and breaching the right of Defo players to decide who are their team mates in game.

I find it very hard to answer this. I mean yes, the last weeks i log in like once every other week. Other things by now keep my busy. Which is not that surprising, after racking up several weeks worth of game time. But i do log in once a while and just enjoy flying the spaceships, no matter which activity i actually choose to go for.

So in my eyes the trick is to not lock yourself into one activity. Enjoy the fun of merely flying the ships. Just decide which ship you want to fly on this evening, then decide on which activity it is suitable for and go for it. I consider this the most enjoyable way to handle the game. (Formerly i also was able to use GalNet as a source of suggestion on where to go and do stuff. But that's unfortunately a thing of the past. :( )
