Baldur's Gate III?

D:OS2 is up there with the best RPG games, really. It's that good.

Thanks, i know, people have said it many times. But you're not helping. The more people tell me how good something is, the more i'm likely to avoid it. Its like my internal hype receptor works backwards. It works against me at times, I avoided reading Game of Thrones for like 10 years or something because of friends banging on about how awesome it was, and it was only after watching a few espisodes of GoT once Season 3 was already underway i went and read the books (and what a letdown the TV series turned out to be... and we are still waiting for the rest of the books). On the other hand, it also meant that i didn't fall for the Star Citizen hype machine and avoided investing in that.

The best way to convince me to check something out is generally just say "Oh, its ok." :p

I'm personally not trying to convince you to play it, AA. I'm speaking more to you comparing it to Star Citizen, which is a ridiculous comparison for several reasons. I actually regard your very outspoken stance as "Hey everybody, look how cool I am for not playing Divinity or thinking Larian can be trusted, despite claiming to be soooo into D&D and cRPG's!" If you're too cool to play it, good for you; just be careful with the aspersions. There's more really competent game developers than Frontier you know:)

I picked up Divinity:OS last year in a Steam Sale and have been filling my game time with it in place of Elite for the last 6 months. It's pretty amazing. I'm an avid tabletop gamer and regularly play D&D with a group of friends. (I don't like the online D&D stuff like Roll20 at all). I think the main reason I missed it at launch was just because I was really into Elite for the past few years.

I played all the Baulders Gates when they launched and also dipped my toes into Pillars of Eternity. I think that Larian and Divinity created the best cRPG I've ever played. It's pretty amazing. The mechanics capture that turn based D&D feel and their writing and humor is top notch. I'm REALLY excited for BG3. Watching that Pax gameplay demo has me counting the days.

I think it's going to be BG3 and Elite New Era for me the next couple years....

Thanks. Maybe one day. More likely i'll just wait for BG3.

I played both and enjoyed both. The second is better. One of those rare times where the sequel surpasses the first.

You could find yourself in a slump for games and having these in the bank to play will sort you out. I'm not a fan of the genre particularly but these really are outstanding games and deserve to be in most gamers libraries. This is also the main reason I'm going for BG3 because larian are doing it.

However I will wait for full release.

You really misunderstand what i'm saying.

That might be because no one really understands your logic.

If 99% of people says product X is very good, you dont want to buy it? What the heck am i missing here?

9 out of 10 cats apparently prefer Whiskas.

I'm not trying to say its not good, i'm just saying i have a strange relationship with hype/positivity about things. See my earlier reference to Game of Thrones.

On top, i really don't have time for another game at the moment, especially not something that will suck me in like an RPG. I can usually get a couple of hours in the evening to play ED or GTA. Been doing import/export with my daughter. She's my getaway driver ;)

I'm not sure why some people can't get their head around someone not being motivated to buy a game just because its a good game. There are many good games out there, many of which i will never play. Its not obligatory.

I don’t think Witcher 3 is very good, the vast majority of gamers disagree. I also really liked The Last Jedi. I do think Rise of Skywalker missed a few marks.

At the end of the day. People are fickle. But I do think you should always try thingsfor yourself. The general public’s opinion is not the best.

It's good - like outstandingly good, but I couldn't finish it. Made it maybe halfway through and it felt like a slog at some point.

I always looked at The Witcher III as being a "solid" entry in my gaming library that I'm glad I own and played a lot of with no complaints. Never quite understood the worship of it, though. There are quite a few people who think it's the best game ever, and I just don't see that. That honor goes to Farming Simulator 19.

Inevitably the romance options got mentioned - and apparently everyone can romance everyone else.

Fair enough!

But don't Gith lay eggs?

I for one am very happy BG3 is going to be made by Larian. There were 2 awesome ioptons, Larian (Divinity games are absolutely outstanding) and Obsidian Entertainment (Pillars of Eternity series is also excellent), but OE kind of dropped the ball recently with The Outer Worlds (it's not terrible, but very "meh"), while Larian keeps making better and better games with each new launch.

I got put off by the isometric direction Obsidian went in. RP Gamers deserve 3D games like everyone else.
I kind of felt this way too playing Pillars. I kept finding myself wishing I could look at the other side of rooms and environments. It’s a cheaper development for sure with static image backdrops, but kinda felt dated. I loved the story though. It was certainly a good game. It didn’t hold my attention all the way through.

I think Divinity just feels a little more polished in graphics, and mechanics. I also prefers the solid turn based mechanics.

What I can only dream of is a VR version with perspective like is seen in Moss or a VR RTS. It would be like playing D&D with an amazing animated Dwarven Forge set up.

I absolutely loved Pillars, both of them. But again, combat was my main complaint. Later on in the game where you have a big party and everybody have lots of abilities it just becomes so messy, and it just has a terrible flow. I had no issues with graphics. I think artistically Pillars are amazing looking games. They've tried retroactively adding turn based combat to second game, but it is very clear it wasn't meant to work that way as all the balance is thrown out the window. Some skills and character attributes suddenly become very dominant in turn based mode, while some nearly useless.
Larian specifically constructed and balanced their games around turn based combat. And it shows. It has depth, it has variety, and it just flows so much better than old-fashioned real time with pause. Whatever that means. That's how it feels.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

Lol. Yeah, I don't get the worship of Witcher 3 either. I played each Witcher games for several hours, got a little fed up with the combat, and drifted away. Interesting characters, great cutscenes, and nicely done quests, though. Certainly not the best piece of video game entertainment of all time.

Farming Sim 19 is a blast, though. I picked it up for free on the Epic store and have played it a bunch. Relaxing. :)

Baldur's Gate as a series I've sunk dozens of hours into. Haven't played Divinity Original Sin, though, so I have no experience with this dev house.

Like the look of the game from the demo they showed, though. I'll definitely watch this with interest.

Sounds like we have similar tastes. I think Baldur's Gate is going to be a robust entry into the genre, if not a ground breaking title. It's not going to edge Flight Simulator from my #1 most wanted position, but it's definitely up there. Since you haven't played Divinity I'll just tell you outright what's so cool about the game(s): the gameplay systems at your disposal. They're the type of games that are fun in EA and long after they release, even after the story has been fully explored, because they seem like they have endless replayability due to all the interconnected systems at your disposal. More so than any other cRPG I've ever played.

Will echo @Jenner and @jasonbarron games thoughts on the Witcher series, although I also played/enjoyed it I never managed to finish them. My all time favorite would have to be the Civ series. So much time sunk there from the beginnings of time :D

This new BG entry looks like is definitely going to be a time sinker for me.
