This came from a batch of fan art done many moons ago. There were quite a few awesome pictures utilizing various ships from the game.
I know I am being a touch lazy here, but does anyone have a link to some of those? That one had a real “sci-fi novel cover” feel to it, or like it could have come from one of the Terran Trade Authority books!
It is the work of a commander who simply identified himself as 'DMC' and the image was posted on this forum over 18 months ago AFAIK. I kept it in my ED archive as I thought it was such an evocative image, and wanting to show the Python some screenshot lurve; I re-posted it to get the ball rolling. o7
Edit: Someone has suggested it was originally published some time ago in SagEye, but I can't vouch for that. (See some other theories posted above..... perhaps DMC the original Artist might step forward and identify themselves and take some accolades
)

Using the original .jpg file name, I have located the original post which was actually on Reddit over a year ago. The Artist has posted comment and a Hi-Res version of the picture:

That image has 'Dirty Feds' written all over it.
