As I understand it the real players have 'cmdr' before their name and npc's miss that 'cmdr' bit?

And the cool thing is, he made a sort of appearance in the original, at least on the C64 - a mission was given to you by Agent Blake.

If he has made it into E: D that's quite impressive actually, one of his distinguishing characteristics was his frequent absence from the TV series named after him.
