Partisan scare mongering aside, according to Gov. Newsom, in California (the most populous state in the union) C19 is forecasted to infect 25 million Californians over the next 8 weeks.
That's nearly 50% of the Golden State's population over the next two months. New York is estimated around 10K and growing.
We're not exactly at the pandemic level of the TWD universe as yet. But at the rate California, New York and especially NYC are blowing up, it's definitely more than "a few isolated cases". At least relative to here in the US v. EU and world wide. Quite coincidental how China (the alleged epicenter of ground zero) remains adamant insisting there aren't any new cases to date.....
Yeah, it concerns me
greatly. Due to my background I have a number of friends, Americans and expats, living in a number of large urban centers in the US. I am very concerned with what is happening over there, and not 'amused' at all by how things are being tackled. 25 million of infections in California would inevitably lead to the complete collapse of the medical infrastructure and scenes far beyond what Italy has had to face. Now, eight weeks is far off, relatively speaking. So there is still a lot that can, and should, be done to get things down to more manageable numbers.
The most baffling thing to me is that in the media this seems still to be framed largely as an 'election affair'. For example, Cuomo's decisive leadership is not being framed as a model for other states, but instead as either bad news for Trump ("the contrast between Cuomo and Trump shows how week WH's leaderships is!", if you read more liberal media) or bad news for Biden/Sanders (Fox News today went with "Cuomo overshadows presidential hopefuls!"). It is insane, it seems like US media just mentally cannot deal with
anything in a way that isn't reflexive partisanship. When you read the comments you see the respective bases gleefully commenting how this approaching catastrophe is 'hurting the other side's election chances'. It is insane. Absolutely insane.
As for China: I am not sure why that keeps being reported. Truth is China has not had a single day where they did
not report new cases. Numbers are small (+-50 last 24 hours, and 6 deaths) but many people don't quite grasp the extensive measures they have and are still taken. Think going door-to-door with forced temperature measurements, and locking people up who show signs of a fever. Complete ban of travel between provinces, cities, neighbourhoods and roadblocks on the streets. People flying in to China are now kept in centralized quarantine zones which can only be left after showing no symptoms for a given period of time. And so forth. It is still not fully squashed, and as with any country reported numbers are only a percentage of true cases, but they simply are dealing with this far more decisively.
