All this angst over upkeep on Fleet Carriers - why?

Funny you had to qualify your statement with the bit about exploration cause thats exactly what they told explorers... oh sorry. This is how it feels and what you got was a hella lot milder than what was offered to the ADS people.
True enough, it was just mentioned that a minority would object to the new system...

At least here we have normal forum protocol where incomplete information is dissected to find the best possible doom scenario... shame that didn't happen prior to the exploration update 🤷‍♂️

I want to also add that there hasn't been any significant content for non new players for a few years now.

I keep seeing people say this and I really don't get it. I started playing this game a few months before Beyond, so getting close to three years now. It is a very different game now than it was then. I have a hard time thinking of a single aspect of the game that has not changed since then. Engineering was revamped along with material traders, a lot of new Guardian stuff, much of the Ax/Thargoid stuff including incursions and CZs, many more ships, changes to CZs, changes to mining including new modules and new things to mine in new ways, changes to exploration including new things to be found, a BGS overhaul introducing new states as well as POIs, pirate activity, installation scenarios, and that is all off of my shoddy memory.

Best part, all of that new content has cost me nothing.

Yup, I don't get it either. There is also the fact that nobody knows how it all works. How easy or hard it is to get this debt, how long it takes etc. Can you make money when not in game and therefore have a profit instead of debt.

Have you tried staying at rating 5 of a galatic power, when you're losing half the merits every week? Do you think the work and the profits are balanced? I don't even need to ask if it's easy.

... is it entertaining, or is it there solely to get people to log in more.
Not having a go at you, but these words do neatly sum up why some people have trouble enjoying ED.

It's a game! The only thing that can get me to log in is entertainment! There is never any other reason to log in. It's therefore not possible to ask whether something is entertaining or whether it's to get me to log in. It's either both of those things, or neither.

If I was ever in a situation where I no longer enjoyed playing but knew that I had to log in or lose a 5Bcr asset, I hope I'd be able to recognise the "sunk cost" fallacy and go and play a game I enjoyed instead.

Forgive me, I'm just not that positive since we already have some, you know, rubbish.
Put the rubbish in the bin outside, Refuse collections are still happening in your area on schedule - it's critical infrastructure and so supported by Government. Check your Council's website for more information

Say what you like about FCs but they've reinvigorated the forums! It was pretty quiet around here until the announcement. :D
I know! Right!

I pretty much start up Frontier Forums every day and just check new posts... it's been dead, boring, nothing exciting. Now, at least with the announcement of the announcement of the fleet carriers, the uproar and rage is back! Woot! Finally some live into the Elite Meta Game Forums.

Or enough toilet roll! 😲
I demand that we'll get a toilet paper factory module to buy to our carriers. Otherwise it's a worthless piece of sh***. oops...

The TPF module. And you can engineer it at Rollo McFarth to produce more rolls, higher ply, and for less materials.

--edit

Forgot. The price of the 1A TPF is about 1 billion credits.

Odd that you are still incentivised to come to a game forum when you consider the overall game to be 'rubbish', don't you think?

Should I decide a game is mainly 'rubbish' it goes into the same place all of those DOS / Win 95 games have gone, lost forever and barely missed. Is ED the only game where folk who really dislike it in the main continue to vent discontent rather than walk away?

Its very simple really. Imagine if your fleet had a weekly upkeep, and you had to play and grind weekly to keep your ships. I hope it is just the services on the fleet carriers that need upkeep, or the loan payments if you take one to buy the ship, etc.. and not the actual ship itself..

Hey no problem, didn't feel like I was being got at at all - mostly because I agree with you.

Which is why I don't want Frontier to add in mechanics that are literally designed to get people to log in more - not to entertain them.

No. Weirdly, it happens on most game forums.

Personally I LOVE Elite, and offer criticism because I want it to be the best it can be. Criticism and complaining is something people do when they're passionate about something. I don't complain about that OTHER big space game I was a back of, because I've written it off as a scam that will just never come to pass, and I don't really have any passion or interest in it.
