Just looking at the worldmeter, man, it is... :eek:

US cases nearly at 20,000 new today. Mindboggling numbers... , that's 25 whole Diamond Princess ships worth, in 24 hours. Or roughly one shipload per hour.
One month ago they were at about about 60 cases total. (Just where we are today. )
The frontline must be grim as heck in the respiratory and ICU units, but places like Italy and Spain are even worse.

It's a horrorshow. And it hasn't hit full stride by a long shot.

Germany has some excellent ratios of cases to death/serious cases. Way better than most places.

🇹🇹
2 friends called.
Both sick with upper respiratory symptoms, and somewhat scared. Odds are it's something else, as our case rate is still low. Suggested they self isolate at home, wait and see if things improve.

It's like living in a soap opera. Somebody coughs, you know they are dying in 3 more episodes.

Suddenly things that we used to just ignore become talismans of mortality.

OBSERVATION

if you cough and your phlegm is yellow greenish your body is working and fighting the virus, if it turns grayish you really need to see a doctor to check you.

Just reported in the local newspaper today that the first case has been diagnosed on the main island...in someone who came up here from the mainland to self isolate not less. I've no doubt the selfish and irresponsible **** has spread the virus further when raiding the local shops for loo roll as well as the local supermarket and we'll be hearing of more cases springing from this.

They should start shooting these people at the ferry ports.
Agree, chase the infected off before they contaminated the community.

It had to come at some point with numbers rising and spreading daily...It's way too late for all that, not just here but worldwide. It seems all of us have just got to weather whatever the storm brings...if it does reach me, I'm a dead man anyway with the sheer amount of broken and non working bits of my body that's left. Survived a lifetime of war, killed by a bug. I'll have that scraped onto my marker come the worst.

My wife watched me die twice in a military hospital after the army delivered me back home only one step up from being wrapped in a black bin liner and a flag... Personally, I have absolutely no dread of my long overdue trip across the river Styx, I've cheated the old gods too many times already and owe a life debt I can never repay in this one...I'm only left here to serve my penance and ensure someone in this life remembers the names of my brothers who aren't.

It's my deepest wish that she doesn't have to watch me go a third time. It may bring me the selfishly wished for long awaited peace but destroy the very woman who dragged me back from the last time.

Yes my wife tried the same a long time ago, I was in a high fever talking gibberish and was sometimes not able to recognize her for a few seconds when she woke me up to eat. Very unpleasant for her.

It's easy for me since I have no memory of it at all. I lost an entire year of my life including the 6 months before I was deployed plus the 6 months in a coma. I also have no memory of the actual incident except for a weird 3rd person perspective gained from my surviving squad mates who were there. I've never had so much as a flashback from it either...which I class as fortunate on my part. I have quite enough of those nightly technicolour horrors from other stuff.

I discovered the true effects on my wife when I eventually returned home after 2 years in hospital. She still watches me as I sleep, awakened by any change in my breathing or restlessness...I got the easy part.

Man 2 years that’s a long time, lucky you got a strong woman by your side, praise her as much as you can 🙏💪

Unlikely odds, as 95% of people do OK.

I rather like your posts, and expect you'd metaphorically give it both barrels and tell it Welcome to Scotland, but you know yourself better than me.

If it comes to it, personally I'd rather it be me that perishes than the wife. That's cowardice for you, can't handle her going.

The 95% applies to me, too, but ha, it doesn't feel like it. We probably can all relate.

Nah, not really.

The green colour comes from dead PMN cells, who mostly fight bacteria. So those are likely non viral pneumonias. Or superinfected ones with both .
The colour comes from cyclooxygenase enzyme granules.

Sometimes that can be a terrible illness too. Sometimes not.

Covid mostly comes with a non productive dry cough. And most of the time nobody with it actually would need a doctor.

But you agree that green yellow is not a reason to believe you’re infected with corona but if it turns into a gray color it’s much more serious?

Although causing horrendous suffering and death, we will of course pull through this. If the mortality rate was in double digit % then yep, civilisation would most likely collapse with the food chain but humans would still adapt.
Humans are really good at adapting!

The initial response of the uk gov to allow herd immunity was basically yeah, old people will die but we need to save the economy- didn’t last long under pressure from scientists, thankfully.And now we’re seeing unprecedented eco/political actions which 1 year ago would have been scoffed at as unimaginable.
I’m hopeful that we simply won’t be able to go back to pre-pandemic lives - it’s showing what we can do when push comes to shove.

Easter was never a "plan" but rather a "hope." Hope is an incredibly important message for us all at this point.
However, the official source of the spread of the pandemic in France is related to a multi-day gathering of 2,000 faithful from the Protestant Evangelical Church in the northeast of the country.

When this demonstration was finished, everyone went home to all the regions of the country and also to other countries of the world.

We can say here that the hope in the context of a religious gathering has been replaced by the murderous madness.

The religious authorities of the Evangelical Protestant Church have apologized.

🇳🇴🇫🇷
The religious infected France. Skiing infected Norway.
In the first few days we had 150 infected from Italy and 500 infected from Austria. All other countries were about 15 combined.
90% of those that came from Italy and Austria had been skiing in the Alps.
Those after-ski parties were pure bombs of alcohol, sweat and viruses. 🍻💦=🤒

I also read in the press :

"On his way back from Italy, a 70-year-old guru, Baldev Singh, went to preach in fifteen villages in the Indian state of Punjab, before falling ill and dying. 15,000 people, placed in quarantine, could have been contaminated by this 'superpropagator'."

There was also a champions league match 19th Feb in Bergamo and marches all over Spain 8th March that are being attributed as large spreading events.
Many events and places of concentration of people had to be prohibited from the beginning, which was not done.

The biggest Problems in Pandemic repsone, apart from those mentioned above, have been:

  • underestimating/downplaying the thing ;
  • not being on the ball from FIRST domestic case on ;

Not being on the ball means failing to do the most important things when first domestic case popped up :

  • testing ;
  • contacttracing ;
  • isolating ;
  • quarantine ;

The above are not my opinions .

No amount of blameshifting will change the utter and extreme failure too many nations who had ALL the expertise, knowledge readily at their hands prooved to be . The lack of testing to the point where some even thought herdimmunity would help is only one indicator for this . I mean really, on these Forums, less than 2 weeks ago, when that thing already ran rampant around the world, people in here still advocated for "letting the Virus do its thing" . Look at where the USA are today...any more doubt that "just let it do its thing" was the stupidest suggestion ever ?

EVERY ONE of the now really hard hit "First World" Nations had the Chance to do the right thing, from FIRST domestic case on . Too many chose to not do that . Some of the most apparent reasons were notions of "fearmongering", or "economy" .

I think it was Ian Skippy who pointed out a few pages ago how SARS -CoV -2 is not even a particularily dangerous Virus, it being a 2/2 Virus . He also mentioned that, when you get to a 6/6, the entire globe is devoid of human population in a few weeks .

When a new Virus is discovered, and nothing or not much is really known about it, imagine being a Virologist knowing that

a) it could turn out to be REALLY BAD, or worse, could probably mutate into something really bad ; and
b) the WORSE, the shorter the timespan before gazillions of people die ;

I this light, one may probably start to be able to understand all the "fearmongering" . As well as one may understand the very immediate call for VERY drastic measures ( lockdowns ). Because time has been ticking, and in the absence of medicine/vaccine, the MOST important thing that has to bo done is to slow the Spread .

How can we slow spread ?

  • testing ;
  • contacttracing ;
  • isolating ;
  • quarantine ;

The above are not my opinions

Still, SO many people do not understand even the most basic things about this. This simply shows the incapability of staring the immediate threat right into the eye . People are and were not able to bite down the possibility of millions of people dieing ( which DID, and still does, exist ) . Hence all the denial .

And remember, we are lucky to be let off easy . If this had turned out to be a really nasty one...only weeks....

Indeed: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-52007104

This lovely little town alone was supposedly "responsible" of having spread contagion all over most of notherh Europe, Iceland included (first positive Islanders were all returning from a trip there). And then as you wrote, there all the countless others ski resorts from all over the Alps...we had a particularly clever (not) resort in Abetone which had the brilliant idea to advertise discounts for all the students who were left at home when schools got closed at the start of the lockdown. "Constant grow of profit, no matter what".
