I’d like more commanders in the Open

I'm not sure if you've noticed but excluding distant world's, the PvP community has organized more events than any other group of players in elite
And they do seem to get solid attendance, but given the title of the thread, it appears quantity isn't helping. If there is a sufficient amount of activity and still not the desired consumption, then one must look at the quality of the events and opportunities on offer.

The only problem there is, from the events I've seen anyway (mostly streamed by the likes of Blaize, UnusualCupcake and the like on Twitch -- excellent brand ambassadors, most of those streamers overall), the events are quality. I'm particularly impressed with Fighter Frenzy. I keep meaning to tell my SWTOR buddies about that because we have a very similar game mode called Galactic Starfighter. The only difference is we never get to pound the flagship in the latter. They'd LOVE to do that.

So, either there's a misconception about the amount of events being put on, or my personal view of quality is wildly off and a vast majority of people think things like Fighter Frenzy aren't quality (I realize this sounds narcissistic, but I really don't think I'm off on this one; the event's fantastic), or the content simply doesn't appeal and it's time to think outside the PvP box.

You're more than welcome to pitch ideas yourself, you know.
I have. Where have you been?

Topic of the thread is what to do about gankers in Deciat.

I've suggested more players start learning PvP and police Deciat themselves.

I've suggested a simple and rewarding bounty system to entice players to play as police forces and give gankers at least some kind of consequence.

I've suggested that the discontinuation of CG's is the single greatest reason why gankers started flocking to Deciat and bringing them back would have a huge impact on getting them to go somewhere else to gank.

I've suggested turning San Tu into an official battlegrounds system with simple PvP rewards that can only be received there.

The problem is that myself and others have been making reasonable suggestions on how to quell gankers for years but every time we do, the same people complaining about gankers then throw a fit over the idea of giving them content to keep them busy and distracted.
The only thing they want to see is to have every ganker banned or punished to the point where they can't play the game.

I believe the PvP community itself is split (roughly) into gankers, lawfuls, organized PvPers and emergent content deliverers, and receivers.
So it's very difficult to put them all into one template. Combined with that many don't pvp at all, it simply doesn't appeal to many, sadly.

What I'd like to know is what the hell goes on in Enayex every week. I heard there was a high gravity planet there. Is there a cult attempting to summon an Old One via rebuy or something?

There is truth there - I think if I'd been 20 years younger and more agile (any excuse) even I'd be involved regularly, but as things are I'll only get involved in PvP by arrangement, or when I really must... (I do think it is fun though, even if I had to stoop so low as to gank some poor unfortunate for being in possession of a KWS and no communication skills :devilish: )
Not this CMDR of course, he is pure as wind driven snow...

No, just my 1st alt - heard of piloting skills and reckons they are much over-rated :)
(Enayex is lovely, nice cuddly Anarchy control, great position for 'interesting' places, and particularly stupid NPC pirates - and the Passenger Liner Massacre missions are epic!)

Alright, let's go over those then, in order, line by line:

* Topic of the thread is "I'd like more commanders in the Open". The question proffered was suggesting EVENTS. It's always a good idea to pass on information to other players about potential in-game hazards and how to perhaps handle them, but it's also always a good idea to stay focused on matters at hand.

* I do recall the suggestion of forming a police wing for long-term open-ended defense purposes, and already pointed out 1) they exist and 2) starting a new one is a pain in five butts. It was also suggested that anyone wishing to see such a thing go ahead and form one on their own. If you're looking for ideas on how to go about that, I've got a few recruiting tricks I can share (as long as your group has someone funny enough to deliver them -- comedy's a great attractor).

* I do recall the suggestion of a bounty system, and recall explaining why there isn't. There was one that we had before, but players gamed it for a ton of free money and it got nerfed into a black hole. This also happened on EvE Online, and I still haven't found another game in which it HASN'T happened. If you have, let me know so I can look at it.

* Alright, but that's on FDev to bring back CGs. OR, we can organize them ourselves I suppose, like a "CG" to repair a certain station. If you're looking for organizational ideas on getting the latter going, let me know; as for FDev bringing them back, the question at hand was what can PLAYERS organize, not FDev. It's becoming readily apparent that relying on FDev for much is a bit of a gamble.

* I believe the streamers I mentioned previously have already accomplished this, having flipped San Tu to anarchy some weeks back. I could be thinking of another place though. It's been a long week and things are starting to blur together a little if they happened in the past few months or so.

And finally:

* If it's an increase in ganker activities and opportunities SPECIFICALLY that you want, you've got a long uphill battle if history is any reliable indicator. My suggestion would be for the ganker community to maybe not run off the newer ones and focus more on the people actually looking for the content, as previously suggested, or maybe adding a comedic element to the act. I'm really, really, really interested in seeing a wisecracking gentleman pirate crew that don't kill unless they must and leave brandy for their victims. That would be wholly entertaining.I would seriously consider that.

Yeah, it seems like the actual question is how to increase reception and opportunities for GANKING activities, you're right. The rest seem to be alright, esp. organized PvPers.

I asked FDev if they could put a tourist beacon at Borann A 2
I really love this idea.
And to commemorate all the brave pilots that ate rebuys in the process.

Again, I've givin up the life of ganking but the night I submitted my ticket to transfer my wealth to PC I hopped on Xbox one last time to go on one final murdering spree and slaughtered over 30 pilots in an hour in Borann.
Moral of the story is, y'all really need to learn how to submit and high wake, seriously.

I propose a duck hunt. Hunt mind you, no killing Old Duckie. A game of tag. You fire a repair limpet, if it hits, you score. Or something.
Ironically I'm reading this immediately after posting this (link goes to actual post):

That's definitely one tool in the toolbox, but it's also critical to not be fixated on just a few tools -- overreliance on a concept can prove to be a crutch, as is frequently suggested RE: the Almighty Docking Computer, Praise Be To Its Circuits. For example, I've literally screwed my way out of more than one unpleasant emergent situation. (SWTOR RP-PvP used to be amazing.)

I have one more suggestion for you but it'd be unwise to offer it here. Find me on Discord if you like; I suspect you already know where to look.

I would also like to propose that while PvP includes pew pew, one need not engage in pew pew to PvP. If you're in Open and using your brain to outwit an adversary player (for example, running a gauntley / "blockade"), that's PvP in my book. I can also pirate without ever deploying hardpoints (no ramming, either).
