I’d like more commanders in the Open

I would also like to propose that while PvP includes pew pew, one need not engage in pew pew to PvP. If you're in Open and using your brain to outwit an adversary player (for example, running a gauntley / "blockade"), that's PvP in my book. I can also pirate without ever deploying hardpoints (no ramming, either).
That's what I mean with receiving PvP. For me that includes stand and fight, outwit, escape, whatever... (y)

Yeah, it seems like the actual question is how to increase reception and opportunities for GANKING activities, you're right. The rest seem to be alright, esp. organized PvPers.
A large portion of players that gank are just pvpers that are bored with nothing else to do and don't have the patience to request fights on discord. I mean, I started getting a little frustrated the other night, after finishing my new FDL build, I flew around Shinrarta for an hour asking every player I saw to fight me with no takers. I finally found a fight in San Tu but it was kind of irritating that I couldn't just do get a quick fight in before going to bed.

Honestly, it's really hard to not just murder every player in sight sometimes.

Speak for yourself.

Yep, and situations like these drive people to gank.
Was there, nearly got the tshirt.
You finish a new build, eager to test, but anything you encounter are 3D shielded Asps.
It can be very tempting. Or harmless Cutters. Novice Corvettes...

I generally don't attack other players except for BGS reasons, but boy that is annoying sometimes.

Even further than that! There's PvP that doesn't involve the use of weapons at all! (No, not boxing. Though that'd be siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick with space legs...)

Racing IMMEDIATELY comes to mind. That's PvP. One of the Discords I'm in does regular races in PG, and they'd LOVE to be able to do those in Open, but... ganker issues.

Why would that be good in open for the combat-oriented?

<.<

...gambling. (Please don't make me describe how. Please look at recent events and put 3+3 together.)

So we get a little side action going. Maybe somebody doesn't pay up. Maybe somebody hits it big and needs a little wealth redistribution. Maybe we sit there and watch the race go on and leave it be while we got our side action going. Maybe we even offer cover against rogue disruptive elements, earn some of that trust back so that maybe in the future they're open to the idea of more dangerous races in more dangerous places with guns and mines and high-grav Biowaste dropped from above by design.

Maybe that creates more opportunities down the road. Maybe it doesn't. But it gets more people into Open and gets more things going in Open. (And I'm damn well near certain a lot more would spring out of just that. Racing isn't the only form of weaponless PvP one can conceive of, esp. with certain incentives involved that can now be offered by players...)

I mean to put it simply, yes. When you starve a pvper of content and take away the last little bit they had, they're gonna go wherever they have to, to fill their apatite.

It's a pretty simple concept and I don't understand why it's so hard for so many of you to comprehend.
It's easy to comprehend that some will do what they can to feed their habit.

.... it's equally easy to see why those who don't enjoy being ganked may have little or no sympathy for the "plight" of those starved of opportunities.

Then stop complaining about getting ganked. You cheer for them having nothing to do but then complain when they kill you because they have nothing to do.
Pretty backwards thinking if you ask me

This right here is what I'm talking about. We've made many suggestions on how to have less ganking but every suggestion is shot down because all you want is for them to just be removed from the game. And you call gankers selfish. 🤦‍♂️

I'm not "cheering" anything - Frontier removed CGs for all players, not just those that used them as a baitball for targets. Gankers themselves create the image problem of their play-style.

They are free to do what they do - however they don't control the perceptions of those that are adversely affected by them.

The suggestions seem to be centred around getting others to do things to improve the situation for them - why not engage in a bit of DIY in terms of coming up with solutions?

I'm just gonna speak on behalf of all gankers right now and say that they don't give two funs about their image and how other players perceive them. We're not here to talk about love and acceptance, we're here to talk about what can be done to get them out of systems like Deciat. I have yet to hear a single suggestion from you besides "this game is for everyone".

You won’t. It’s very clear from this thread that development of the sandbox to be anything other than barebones ships and space to the “true fans” is a cardinal sin.

Noted, unsurprisingly.

They could choose to leave Deciat. Problem solved.

When gankers only care about other players when they're looking for targets, why is it up to other players to suggest solutions?

Not at all - many changes would likely be welcomed. Turning it into an EvE-wannabe, not so much.
