Hey it's not fair... this guy left without giving me his stuffz!

With all this NMS advertising around here I was really tempted to get the game,
it's on sale at Steam right now, but I simply can't get into those cartoon graphics.
Watched some vids, but all I see is a guy in a space suit running around through ridiculous
colored landscapes.
I mean, Star Citizen I could get into as an alternative to Elite, but NMS?

Funny thing is that even if this is just a troll there are quite a few people that are considering moving over to No Man's sky. I have seen it on Twitter and quite a few gaming forums that I frequent aside from here. Hell even I am considering grabbing No Man's Sky since it's 20 bucks on PlayStation right now.

And I say that as someone who got no man's sky on day one and then furiously refunded it once I realized that it was a half-finished half promised mess of a game. I haven't even looked at no man's sky in well over a year and a half but apparently the game has been updated and revamped so many times that there is now a plethora of new content to take part in.

And seeing as Elite might just be on the downturn if the more recent Fleet carrier debacle is anything to go by I am keeping an eye out for the next space simulator that I can get my hands on. And after seeing some of the screenshots and videos that have been posted here and elsewhere lately no man's sky is looking like a really really good alternative if Frontier decides to stay on this ridiculous course that they have chosen.

I have it since launch and spent a couple hundred hours.
Hello Games is releasing toys that are going far from a space exploration game so I lost the point there... very similar situation to FDEV then!

But why though?
I mean Elite as a game hasn't changed since the beta, it's not suddenly a worse game.
At worst it will give us another feature no one uses. Why would you leave it now, for another game that's
only mentioned because there are what? 4 Space ship titles out there,
and one of them is single player, one is cartoon graphics and the other one is screenshots-for-sale?
Why should I suddenly switch to NMS? FD already got my money, I still like it, I actively work the beta
to make the update better, why should I run butthurt to another title?

Unless you like farming I would not recommend NMS.

Mac:

It's bcause Hello Games uses positive reinforcement. They keep coming out with new stuff. Yes, I had the same concerns as you. They faded when I started to have fun in a game.

NMS is waaaay from perfect. The flying sucks. But, the game is fun, and the dev's care (after having thoroughly burned themselves the first time).

Yeah... same problem for me. Heaps of mates have gone "Hey, you're into NMS right? Coz you play EVE, Elite and other space games?"... but there's a vibe I get from these types of games, whereas NMS, I feel like I need to queue up a bunch of Neo-Retro and jump into my spaceship which'll look like this with wings.

.... damn.... if someone leaned into that hard(er than NMS), I might actually buy it.

I'm tempted as well, especially since NMS supports VR. Is there a mod that at least makes the textures and colors more realistic looking? (This question is for the NMS experts)

MMS is great (glorious even if you play in VR) but it's not a game to leave elite dangerous for. The 2 are entirely different games . Definitely worth a place in your collection tho if you like the premise

Same. Even if my posts came over a bit passive-agressive propably, I've not yet given up the thought of getting NMS in this sale. Still need reasons until the 13rd though.

I don't 'get' this leaving Elite blargh. Yes, blargh isn't a word but it should be. You're not married to it, are you?

Like MadMike says, they are two entirely different games, each can sit quite happily in your library or hard drive or whatever. Like crayons vs felt tips, each has its place.

I bought it for buttons when the game was hated on, and have happily watched its improvements. I've got even the ps handeld thingys for it, the motion controllers (?) but am far too unwell to play in vr anymore, can't wait to try it.
