FDev needs to release the panther clipper alongside fleet carriers, for the people who hate fleet carriers.

The Panther Clipper needs to be a truly big ship, too. It absolutely should not fit in the mailslot or a large pad. It should take a minimum 2 extra crew or 1 extra player to fly it, and it should only be landable at large surface cities, capital ship docks, and fleet carriers (frontier would need to figure this out, originally I thought the support ships would detach from the front and also be huge ships in the same vein as the panther clipper, but now they're locked in).
Its unreasonable to take over a year on an update that only what? 2% of players can manage? The panther clipper should cost 1 billion. Game balance is baked into the limited landing prospects and crew penalties alone- no weekly payment is required.
Honestly I think this is what support ships should have been as well, except without the ability to jump system to system without their carriers.

Building, designing, testing a new ship is always something you want Frontier to do at a time when we are also asking them to add missing features or fix perceived broken features.

Releasing the Cobra MkIV to all the Commanders that have joined the game in the past four years on the other hand would be relatively easier.
Ship has already been built, tested, paint jobs in store etc.

The ‘elder’ Commanders are more likely to have the funds to afford the Carrier, the ‘younger’ commanders are less likely so more would benefit more from the Cobra MkIV.

The thing is, you could now do player owned mega ships by tweaking the FC mechanics and just using a different model.
Panther clipper? Commodity storage with a single(?) landing pad which can be locked down to the player (or their squadron) for transferring cargo.
Would be very handy for station repairs...

Please, please can I just have atmo landings, a better outfitting and ship swapping interface, more rewarding gathering mechanics and an end to premium ammo in pvp? Really, that's all I want. I would even call the game pretty much finished at that point.

Atmo landings is long overdue for lifeless planets. I dont see any major technical hurdles that would be holding them back. They just need volumetric clouds, oceans, rivers, erosion related geography.

I could live without fauna at all on planets 'bearing life', because it is assumed that 99.9% of the life in the universe is of very low complexity (microscopic, apart from Earth, the guardians, and the thargoids). Flora would be more of a n issue though, we can see the green from space, there needs to be grass and 'trees' of varying colours and shapes, and that would indeed be challenging.

Insects and fish would be easy enough to implement. You just need little specks darting around. Though, No Man's Sky managed to do it all. If their algorythims were toned down a bit so you didnt get rhinos flying on baby butterfly wings, and the graphics were more realistic, it would suit Elite Dangerous just fine.

Finally someone understands me.

Hehehe

Think about how many long-requested features Frontier has tried to pay lip-service to with Fleet Carriers:
Player trading, commodity storage, player-owned stations, player economy, executive control of capital-class ships etc...

What makes you think that Fleet Carriers, with their immense cargo capacity, aren't a full-blown replacement for the Panther Clipper?

The Panther Clipper as a bulk carrier with a single large landing pad, a bunch of cargo storage space, and no fleet carrying facilities would be a fantastic asset for the solo player. Especially if it was positioned as a cheaper alternative that took less fuel to move/upkeep than a fully-fledged fleet carrier.

Just the basic carrier facilities. No market. No ability to let other players dock. Upgradable with secure storage, maybe refuel/repair/rearm. Cannot be upgraded further than that.

That would be a great idea, I can see IDA using these to repair damaged stations. Fdev everyone will love you if you for this.. lol

Yes there will be special people who will complain I'm sure, but in the main people will be very happy to see one of these in game

I'd buy that in preference to a FC.
