Thinking about getting a 970

Hey Guys, can someone tell me how well the game performs with a single GTX970 and Oculus Rift. Right now i own a 7950 boost and i have 60Fps in Stations, low-medium settings. Can someone tell me if a 970 runs at 75 Fps constantly in Stations and everywhere else.

I posted this elsewhere but should have posted it here...sorry for doubling up.

In Beta 1.06 I had very good performance on my DK1:

Settings: 1280x800 Default High
Docking (Entering Station and on Landing Pad): 60-62fps
On Docking Pad: 60fps Station: 72fps+
Hathor Ring System: 78-94fps

Beta 2.04 is completely different:

Settings: 1280x800 Default High
Docking (Docking (Entering Station and on Landing Pad): 44-52fps
Outside Stations: 57.62fps
On Docking Pad: 44fps

Settings: 1280x800 Default Low
On Docking Pad: 57fps

The difference in fps when sitting on the Docking Pad really highlights the changes. In Beta 1.06 I got 60fps on default high, I now get 44fps (need to set to default low to get 57fps).

Nothing on my system has changed between Beta 1.06 and 2.04

My systems specs are:

i5 2500k
GTX 780
8gb RAM

Anyone else experienced lower performance with the DK1?

In Beta 2 we now have graphics options for Blur and Bloom. Have you tried it with and without those?

what tweaks have you had to make to get solid 75fps?

It's all in this thread: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=43647&highlight=latency

A guy called SuperGhostmaster posted his nvidia inspector config file inthere and put up a description.

I don't use his config, but from what I've seen, it's more or less the same as mine.

I run default high, just with FXAA off and environmental quality on low, with the latter just to deal with the SLI striping issue - haven't noticed any impact on performance by changing it.

I was on a 650Ti on my DK2, received my 970 on Saturday. I was getting fairly good performance on the 650, but with the 970 I rarely get any stutter or noticeable performance issues now and thats on High graphics settings. Occasionally I get a bit of visual lag in a station when looking up at stuff going overhead, but its rare. I've been dogfighting in asteroid fields with no trouble.

I'm on an old-ish AMD Phenom 2 x4 3.0 GHz CPU and 4GB RAM, GTX970 GPU.

Hope this helps.

As previously stated there are many new quality settings for oculus rift, all of them turned on to max graphics by default, you should turn off blur for example.

Also there is the oculus quality slider in the bottom that you can pull down to about half to gain lots of performance without noticing much visible difference.

Thanks for the tip, i have tried this with my GTX970s in SLI and the text is a LOT clearer for me, the added bonus is that i havent had to turn down any other settings, one thing i cant make my mind up about though is the blur option, i have tried with it on and off and cant decide which looks better.

Yeah, I've been back and forth on that too. It's usually the first thing I switch off in any other game. But right now I do think I prefer it (might just be in my head)

Thanks for the enviroment detail tip BTW. Better than the stripeys for sure. Though I did notice that the planets look rather KSP up close. Hope I'll be able to enjoy the new higher detail planets in the rift soon. Really hoping Nvidia roll out thier "VR direct" features sooner rather than later!

Ah man, Here I am again..

2 problems, I hope I'm not the only one on this:

Tonight I'm getting a light colored "screen" over everything, kind of like the old screen door. It's visible when the screen is black, and it kind of looks like unmoving static or "denim" pattern. Blur and Bloom are off. Anyone seeing this? Makes everything kind of foggy and light colored.

Also, my head tracking is out again. Last time I played it worked without terminating any processes, and with the Oculus utility active. Do I need to terminate the process again?

Thanks

Both seam to be known issues... the "bright haze" is a shader problem (some, me included, can temporarily fix it by opening/closing the galaxy map). The camera not starting with the game can be mended by unplugging/replugging it.

One can savely say the rift (or better, the SDK) integration is a bit botched in this beta... FD should have kept using their own software for it.

Ah, okay thanks.

I fixed both problems by running the latest runtime installer again. Maybe it was that or just the reboot, but it fixed it.

I really cant wait until they get the rift stuff tuned up. This beta phase is definitely sweet though!

Interesting, I thought I read in a few places that parking cores was only relevent for i7s.

I'll have to give it a shot on my i5 then, thanks.

Edit: It does seem to have helped, after setting it to 95% I then tried upping the graphics settings some and I still get no judder.

Not a Rift user but..

i5 quad core, turned off core parking, doubled my frame rate somehow. I couldn't believe it. Very happy as I'd about given up thinking I'd need to upgrade to play.

In open space, steady 60fps held by Vsync, in stations and near large bodies/asteroid belts drops to around 30fps, still judders slightly in SC. Immensely playable now compared to before.

Hi what are your specs? Sounds like I really need to try this disable parked cores. Anybody got a link or vid of it as I am a total noob with regards to pc gaming.

Yea, I totally forgot about that... does ED even use multiple cores? I know it isn't very RAM effecient, since it's only 32bit.

I actually had 2 parked cores  though unparking didnt do anything to my fps. Still ~40fps in the second tutorial (which is my fps test scene) with everything on high. (i5 3570k @ 4,2Ghz & ATI 7970)

Ive been playing ED with the DK2 for a few weeks now.
Every thing was running really good even with beta 2. No stuttering and everything was running smooth. I then tried the super sampling idea and while it looked great increased the stutter allot. Brought back down the resolution and the stutter is still there! I cant get rid off it. rebooted, brought down settings and it will not go away!

Any ideas?

Have you tried downsampling from 2560x1440?
I'm curious if 680 sli will be enough with a couple of settings turned down a bit, shadows... And maybe ao

Don't know what version of Windows you're using, but the quick way to do this is via Control Panel/Power Options and the set it to High Performance.
This sets all the cores to 100% usage. See if it works.
Hope this helps.

I've tried the park util and it has not helped (have a core i7 3770 3.40Ghz)
Definitely is weird it seems like theres some cache issue or something else screwing up. Every thing worked amazing before I did the super sampling 2560x1440. arg!!!
