If you are looking for a squadron to join who are lax and fun to play with look no further. You want a squadron who despises player pirates again look no further! Here at SOTERIA's KNIGHTS we understand the hours it takes to mine all those materials and then what it is like to have someone try to take what you worked so hard for. Polite or not they are still stealing from you and will destroy you if you don't give them what they want. Unlike other squadrons, we feel that a pirate is a pirate and our motto is the only good pirate is a dead pirate.

For me Lots of amazing groups on Inara and we don't care about pirates or even griefers. We play the game our way. Pick one. If ultimate combat mode with live players is your goal there are lots of groups going in this direction. Get a headset so that you can communicate with them in battle. Taking time to text and you are dead.

I actually soak dry cat food in a boric acid (borax laundry whitener), let it dry then grind it to granular size and drop 1 canister when they interdic me and fly off. Pirates love cat food. When they eat it, the boric acid makes their insides dissolve. Blowing up their ships is to good a death for em I say! 🤪

Pirates only get me once, then I block them.
I don't have the staying power to mine for any long period of time so if I ever do get caught (and can't boost away) I only lose one or two hours of goods

Good luck with your initiative - if is very hard to stay on the good side of pirate hunting without becomig the problem yourself.

I'm totally new to this game and loved the thought of playing with other players.

However, the one time I tried mining in open the minute I shifted into the rings I was immediately destroyed by another player. Cost me 12,000,000 to buy back my Python. I never stood a chance to even escape: no shields (grade 6 Bi-Weave with 3 boosters) and 36% hull integrity from the 1st attack then blown to space dust.

I won't be touching the open servers again in anything other than my Viper.

are you sure it was another commander? Or an NPC pilot?
if you enter a mining location with anything in your cargo hold, the npc pirate will attack.

it’s best to start a mining session with just limpets in your hold.
let the pirate scan you, he’ll then fly off and you can mine in peace

Might be worth checking Rinzler's guide to trading in open on youtube. There's some stuff that would probably help you out here.

Of course if you don't mind the trip round Colonia way and want to try putting stuff into practice against someone who won't take your hull to zero, as well as talking to some players who do know their stuff, Carcosa could be worth a trip. Always good for setting you up for elite explorer if nothing else.

Well, when you look a a dictatorship commodity market, you're only replacing pirates with slavers, narcotics suppliers and weapons dealers, so you're still helping in the criminals of the galaxy I guess.
