Ships Cobra Mk IV Owners Club

This isn't a thread for criticisms of the Mk IV (we have plenty of those), but a place for fellow owners to share what they're doing with this marvellous vessel.
My Cobra Mk IV was sitting abandoned in some hangar over 100 LY away from my home base for years. Recently I wandered into few of these jealous treads where people moaning about these ships and I decided to give it another life. I brought it home, gave it nice paint job and engineered it. I use my Cutter or Corvet when I'm looking to hurt somebody, I have Phantom for the long trips, my Courier is there for me for when I need something really fast and I have more ships built for very particulaar purpose in mind. Mk IV is not the best ship in the class by any measure and therefore not as good as other ships for the most of the roles. I still like it though. I use it for no particular reason but rather for pleasure. I just find it amusing to jump out of my Cutter and zoom around in this exclusive little ship just because I can. Just go out on the weekend and do any random stuff. Funny enough, it actually gets all this stuff done. And let complainers complain.

Took mine out this week for some light combat and some S&R. Performed like a dream tbh. I know I could have done it all in any of my other ships, but it just felt right at the time, and I enjoyed the session...

110mph - your very brave. Back in the day the old Mopars were only good for one thing - stop light racing ;) They did not handle very well at high speeds and braking - what breaking?? They made some sweet engines though and that torqueflite transmission was practically indestructible.

I can see how you view the Cobra Mk 4 as similar.

Handles like a 1960's living room. :(

Ouch. The Cobra 4 simply cannot run.

Got killed by a Krait Phantom. Edsel has G5 engineered everything, but not the speed to outrun a masslock. That, and it only has two utility mounts, so no PD against the nasty, nasty missiles this Master NPC was using.

What sealed my doom was the sixty tons of tea I was carrying. Any cargo aboard, and you are a target. The Cobra 4 is great, if you aren't carrying anything that interests them.

HIgh wake works with Cobra IV. Just sayin'. ;)

How fast does an NPC Phantom travel? G5 DD thrusters on my Quattro gives me 450 boost - 4pips keeps boosting. Also as @SciTrekker points out, any ship can use high-wake to escape NPCs. I won't say "git gud" as I am deffo not "gud" but the Quattro is not such a sitting duck as you seem to think.

P.S. I always fit PDT.
Point defense is usually required on all my builds, but the Cobra 4 only has 2 utility hardpoints. Edsel had a wake scanner (for collecting materials) and a very, very nice booster.

The NPC deliberately sniped my thrusters. No way to run, as a masslock of 18 held me back from my outsystem jump. It was Tea Time, then. :(

This is wrong, sorry. Highwakes were never and are currently not masslocked. Only lowwakes are.

Only if you get the high wake started. Mass lock will not CANCEL a high wake.

I fly slow ships a lot but if you are mass locked you can't even start up your FSD. Had it happen many many times.

Edit: Now you got me thinking though so I'm gonna have to go and check it more specifically for this.

Phantom will always be able to outrun a Cobra IV. My phantom comfortably does 590m/s boost...
Unengineered the phantom goes 406m/s so with just a low lvl mod it'll outpace the Cobra IV and with much better accelerations. You are not outrunning a phantom in a MKIV sorry.

But the one in question was an NPC - master level so no engineering and anyway an unengineered Phantom will only be able to boost to over 400.

NPC will still have way better acceleration than max engineered Cobra IV. Not to mention more than enough firepower to kill it before it could get up to speed etc.
People always forget top speed isn't the be all and end all in ED. I don't care if you can go twice as fast as me at top speed if I can go 3x the acceleration I'll be able to get away from you... in this case the phantom way out accelerates the cobra IV (and NPC's have perfect pip management so always have top scores in stats for any activity they are doing)

The only way to survive this is if the Cobra IV was tanked to heck (which reduces max speed again) and kept up max speed for an extended period. I have done it in mine but I tank the heck out of them so...

Note: I only have to go to the grocery store for an hour to get slaughtered for my admittedly bad skillz..must be the pandemic. :)

As part of the May Day Massacre, Edsel is now being stripped and sold. Hopefully, this will make up for one bad interdiction, which is always my fault. I fly as bad as a Frontier CC on a livestream... :)
