It was the fuel-strikes, a couple of decades ago, that convinced me that most Brit's are clueless.

The French truckers got a strop on about fuel taxes.
They blockaded a bunch of refineries, cause a bit of mayhem and the French government reduces fuel tax.
Meanwhile, we in Britain have even higher levels of fuel-tax and people start suggesting we should do the same as the French.
Three refineries were blockaded on the Monday.
A bunch of truckers caused a tailback by driving along a motorway slowly on the Tuesday.
By Wednesday, people were phoning in to radio shows and whining about how there'd be no fuel for ambulances and people couldn't get to work on time.
By the end of the week the protests had lost almost all their support.
Shortly afterwards, Gordon Brown announced a reduction in fuel tax... and then increased it again the following year.

It's also odd that it began in Wuhan and only in Wuhan (other big cities weren't locked down and Hubei was the focus of chinese health efforts), had it entered from an exterior country it'd have most likely entered through Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou as they have the most international traffic. Wuhan also has a large airport but it's #16 in passenger counts.
Chinese suspect US military of (unintentionally) importing the virus during the world military sports games in ... Wuhan, via contaminated American soldiers in the United States during the last quarter of 2019.

The United States will probably pass the 100000 mark of the Covid-19 dead by June, according to multiple epidemiological models which do not predict the end suddenly contagious during the summer.

"We are going to lose 75,000, 80,000 or 100,000 people," said Donald Trump yesterday, saying that the shutdown of the economy had prevented a record that would otherwise have reached "at least" 1.5 million American deaths.

Which again, contradicts all other pieces of evidence, apparently the propaganda campain of China has worked better than I expected.

WHO does NOT have the Authority to ORDER anyone to do ANYTHING ! WHO can only advise .

Really, if only you people would listen to WHO, DR. Tedros, Dr.Ryan, Dr. v. Kerkhoeve ! All these accusations are totally baseless .

Again, the HIGHEST STATE OF EMERGENCY WHO can Issue is

Public Health Emergency of International Concern

Any memberstate who is familiar with IHR (should) know : When WHO raises THIS....its HIGH TIME to get going . And probably already a bit late ( simply because WHO started to Issue advice as early as Januar 5th...) . But NOOOOO.....WHO got largely ignored . And people still allow themselves to be instrumentalized in the blame shifting game by Spindoctors, no matter how often these things are explained, as blunt and clearly as anyhow possible . It is saddening, really .
Good lord do you actually believe that they could ORDER countries to do things? Get real.

That is my fricken point, so less of the attacks. WHO is a toothless organisation, typical of humanity, we have all the experts with all the brains and they can't make the politicians do squat.

I’ve been having a look at last years reported deaths amongst e-vapers.
There were a spate of ‘mysterious’ pneumonia deaths and illnesses which had the doctors baffled back in August, September and october...
These symptoms are soooo similar to covid it’s almost like the are covid! But if it was, Then why didn’t we have overflowing hospitals back then?
As I think Ian mentioned pages back, there’s some odd data around.
Maybe the the first batch of virus wasn’t so contagious/virulent? And only after mutating (and mostly around it’s source in Wuhan) did the particularily nasty version occur and get detected.
Huh. Maybe will never know!

Meanwhiles, our uk gov is offering £60k for relatives of dead nhs staff, seems suspicially like blood money to keep them from sueing - especially since the uk downgraded the severity of the disease to remove duty of care...

We would do well to concentrate on the verifiable science, and adapt accordingly.
My country did that. We contained it, to my surprise.
We have 8 deaths and 5 active hospital cases now. Our government does not have to lie and scapegoat.

In one week we will most likely be at zero hospital cases. Then we will consider reopening. 🇹🇹 (y) New Zealand and Australia are in similar situations. For the same reason. The problem is 16 kb of code, so we can easily outsmart it.

Lies coupled with ignoring evidence is what got both China and the USA to their mass graves today, and their continued travails. They are not worried about the problem. (Arrest that doctor!) They are worried about the politics.(It will disappear, like a miracle!) And so, they fail.

Blaming each other is a transparent ploy to redirect the justifiable anger of their sickened populations away from the guilty local governments. At this point, lies are all that can be offered, as the truth would cause civil unrest.

For the vulnerable, lies and tribalism are more than sufficient and served for thousands of years to maintain power. Science, evidence, and critical thinking are upstarts, but they actually work. How inconvenient for dictators and kings!

This entire thing is the Enlightenment played out in real time for all to see. Real power is not from lies and politics. It never has been. Xi and Trump are on their knees before 16 kb of code, burying citizens with one hand and their failures with the other, desperately seeking to get their populations to blame that guy there who has a different skin colour.
.

You would prefer a centralized "world government" which could order nationstates around as it wishes ? You dont see that WHO gave all the warnings, and was hoping memberstates - especially the most developed ones - would have surveillance ready, heed the warnings, prepare and react accordingly ?

They are scientists; they offer information and that is what they are supposed to do. If your politicians don't act on it, blame the people that voted them into power. In the end there is only one group of people to blame when a democracy fails: the people.

I’m not entirely convinced that we are in a democracy really though.
Machine learning to manipulate and all that.
Edit: gerrymandering etc too

Yes.
eg: Ours, or any of the proven successful ones.

In order to effectively cope with a global crisis, we need a functional global government, based on facts, and reliant on globally pooled apolitical expertise.

Resources need to be allocated where needed not hoarded and pirated, borders need to be closed and opened according to risks measured by testing, a global bank/insurance utility needs to administer aid, and global security to enforce shutdowns.

The objective is not dominance over peoples, it is utility and service. We cannot get that if we have tribalism. Therefore -no more damned tribes. One authority, for one humanity.

Tribalism is failing everywhere we look.

More teeth to the UN is welcome, in my opinion!

One day maybe we’ll know the whole truth.

I have no doubt that there will be national and international investigations. And also, the journalists will go on a scandal hunt.
