Are there many other women on here/playing Elite: Dangerous?

I'll be honest I probably won't but reading about your interests is always cool! Enjoy. I've been finding bugs in BETA, that's been my interest so far today
Okey dokey, if you don't have time to read (they're not that long, aside from the book, but it happens) that's fine, just please take my word for it until you can read something from the experts.

That little Britain sketch is literally all I can think of half the time when I read this, it is interesting though, not gonna lie..human interactions are awesome

Oh I've read plenty on the subject..but it doesn't interest me and people hold different opinions all the time over what they call things! It's no biggy. Like I've said before, I don't care what someone is unless they're annoying..I prefer talking about elite but this is cool too!

Don't get me wrong, what I'd love to be doing with my spare time is playing Elite and talking about it too! I do try to have fun doing it, but I will admit there are activities more fun than educating. This post itself was a bit meta but most of what I post here is about the game I'm trying to learn and have fun with. I'm only talking about this topic specifically because someone used the word hermaphrodite incorrectly earlier, and contrary to the popular saying, it is my job to educate you! (you in the general sense, there). I could just ignore it, but I choose not to out of respect to my friends who are intersex and deal with a lot of misconceptions and hostility arising from things like that word choice. So instead, I try and let people know what's up in the most effective way I can. I don't mean to be annoying and if I've annoyed you, I apologise.

That is so goddamn cool! Would love to hear your opinion about the game's progression since Alpha, and what you think about the space legs update (if rumours are true etc), I've been meaning to ask someone who was around since the beginning for their thoughts for a few weeks.
The game has progressed greatly since Alpha, so much has changed and continues to change with every update! I love it as it is and look forward to any updates as they come along. 'Space legs' may be OK if they do happen but I'm still quite happy to view the Elite world from the confines of my ship or SRV. I think there is still plenty to do and have several accounts to keep my options open. As well as my original character, Flossy, I have Flossy2 in Colonia - doing occasional missions for HOTCOL or available for any Fuel Rat rescues that can be reached easier from there; Flossy3 is my dedicated Fuel Rat in the bubble and I also have a character named after our late hamster, P0PPY - spelt with a zero because POPPY was already taken - who is mainly involved with Hutton Truckers events. Flossy does bits of everything.

I'm one of the Moderators on here, mainly because I became heavily involved with the CGs when they were running and needed to be able to edit the CG sub-forum threads, but with no CGs running at the moment that role is a bit redundant. Around the time of the Hutton Mug CG, I also became involved with the radio station, Hutton Orbital Radio, which was running during the event and proved to be so popular it is still running a 24-hour service today, with a weekly broadcast once a week on Thursdays at 20:30 UK local time. I have been on nearly every episode since as one of the presenters, though the lack of CGs has certainly left a big hole.

Sorry, went on a bit there LOL, no shutting me up once I get going. :)

Hopefully when the huge workload is off their hands a bit with the new update some resources might get freed up at frontier and they bring back CG's or something similar!! My real desire is for Galnet to resume though, it's such a huge appeal to me personally to be living inside a story..even if it's just wallpaper. I loved it, hearing it in the background as you supercruise through the black you can really imagine what you see out if the window is a living space for all the intrigue and wonder the writers come up with.
Thanks for providing the link to the Hutton Radio though, I'm gonna give it a try in it's place 🙂 also not being able to shut up is a fantastic quality for a radio presenter!!! 😂

P.s. I used to teach MMA and while normally I like to poke fun at non-fighting men saying they're amazingly tough online, I must give you credit as barrel-chested men were generally the hardest for me to fight (but not to teach! Always had good experience with big polite boys who accepted they could learn something from me). Moving faster while being stable and keeping good form and technique will win you a lot of fights, but it didn't do me much good against someone literally three times my weight when I tried a front defensive kick/push kick. Rude awakening that I really had to pay attention to the whole "unarmoured points" thing and getting out of the way against certain opponents, no matter how well I was planted. That and grappling with them sucked because while of course my core is stronger than even a big man's arm and no one has muscle or fat protecting their carotid (can even make it easier, skinny necks are hard to correctly place and set on for me), it never feels good having to rely on rules or pain to protect you from them literally picking you up while you're torquing their elbow. Or more annoying for them, flopping on you. Not skillfully applying pressure, pushing off with toes or anything, literal flopping. It's worst for them because they can't learn anything at all from it, it's okay-ish for me because at least I can practice getting out from pressure and choking from a compromised position. But I digress. Feel good about your body type because it is actually a bit tougher than average :) you will need to train if you want to reliably win actual fights though. Just please never call yourself a chivalrous alpha male again you made ME blush from embarassment and I'm not even you

I'm just glad i understood some of the terms in this paragraph. The "literal flopping" made me laugh, as i understand what that means from training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. I started out literally flopping around. We like to joke that the best way to end a street fight is to tap. If the opponent does not let go you have learned they likely lack formal training and can respond accordingly. If they do let go, the two of you can then start talking about where each other train and a new friendship is created with common ground. 🇧🇷

Please don't ever apologise for that, every bit of that post was interesting and exactly what I asked for! I'm glad to hear your perspective, it helps me to contextualise some of the things I see around the forums. I really admire how you have so many things that interest you about the game, next time I'm stuck for something to do I might have to ask you for advice. Keen for CGs to get back :) when I last stopped playing they were still around so I completely missed the whole II thing, and now the absence of that and the robot newsreader is a bit sad. Hopefully they're using the capacity to make great things ^-^

I loved training BJJ. Totally different atmosphere to dedicated MMA (and different again from dedicated Muay Thai, different again from Krav Maga, etc). Out of all of them I think I liked the MMA atmosphere the least and BJJ the most. For MMA macho is an extreme understatement, and there's an expectation on women that you have to sort of... disown womanhood and other women? to be one of the boys. Silly stuff. I always found BJJ much more laid back, respectful, and frankly more fun. Muay Thai I enjoyed because of the intense dedication, spend a month training Muay Thai exclusively at a good gym and you almost felt like a monk with muddy yellow shins. Both Muay Thai and BJJ, despite being very different in almost every way, both felt alike in the idk, calmness of training (not in the sense of passivity, more of just being in control). Whereas something I disliked about MMA was pretty commonplace lack of calmness and lack of control. It wasn't uncommon for people who were having trouble or having issues to swear or get really upset in MMA, which just wasn't done in the BJJ and Muay Thai schools I went to. Your mileage may vary, my experience isn't necessarily generalisable to all schools, and this isn't a comprehensive analysis, of course :)

I understand what you are meaning in regards to calmness. I would see plenty of students who just finished a taekwondo or isshinryu class and jumped right into BJJ. While rolling with that partner i would have to remind them to calm down, breath. Understandably they just came from an intense workout and their body was still amped-up. BJJ is a unique experience compared to the standing counterparts. Nothing like being paired with the sweatiest guy on the mat where my new objective was not to armlock but instead was avoiding droplets of perspiration raining down.

@Flossy is also an honorary teabagger, I don't think she will mind me saying?!

@Dr Gentech our group (the baggers that is) kind of evolved from the early CGs, and it's a shame they are no longer running. Hopefully they will return, and we will no longer have to try and find ridiculous things to do in game as communal events, alongside working the bgs for the faction.
Recently we have found a way to enjoy the guardian ruins even more by using parts of them as half-pipes for the SRVs, along with finding various novel ways to jump the entire crystal forests in the buggies as well!

One of the beauties of the game imho is the way we can come up with our own activities as groups, and finding new things to do that are often accidental in nature!!

I don't want to make any assumptions about this place being a bit of a boy's club, so I thought I'd ask instead of assuming.

Hi CMDR! What time is it? Am I late for the party?

When you listen to the pulse at the asteroid belt, the sweep vanishing into infinity, and see the gentle curve of the belt that goes ever onward, days in and days out, you start to forget. Days pass, one like another. You start to lose yourself. You're going to Holo-Me pretending you're checking your hair. In our hearts we both know we go there to check up on ourselves, who were we again, to connect back to humanity.

But we can also change, with Holo-Me. Do you remember when you were a child CMDR? My first memory is from a Sidewinder. I'm sitting there in the seat. Do you remember what happened after that CMDR, when you bought your next ship? Do you remember walking into it? I don't remember anymore.

I remember the time the SRV blew up and I found myself back on my ship. I must have been disoriented and somehow crawled back to the airlock before the suit ran out of air. But I don't remember that either.

Why is it called Holo-Me? Why does it change us so easily?

I think of Holo-Me and look at the belt vanish into the horizon and flex my fingers as I set the charges. Have you ever realized you can't flex your toes CMDR? Its just... nothing happens. Not even if you try your best.

The asteroid is spinning fast now and its hard to hit the last crevice. But I need to get the charge over the threshold before the time runs out. I jam the last shot in and watch the numbers tick down, suddenly realizing I'm too close, much too close. I back off. The rear bumps onto something, thrusters complaining in anger. God, there must be another asteroid behind me. I haven't been paying attention! And now its too late. I watch the time as the canopy cracks, then the whole display goes with it, and the hull, everything. It all goes into brightness, then black.

What I remember next are the insurance terms at Messerschmid Orbital. There's the time again on the upper right corner. Its not a problem, I can afford it. But only a few moments have passed since the explosion, according to the time display. The belt... it was hundreds of light years away. How am I here? Is the quartz broken?

CMDR, can you feel your feet?

Are you really there, in the seat?

Who... what are we?
