"And if your job is to try to put on a show and host entertaining events for people, it becomes hard to do when some kiddy who wants to be the center of attention kills you over and over and demands that daddy looks at him."

Well there's several things:
  • You're not supposed to 'put on an entertaining show' with an years late alpha, but show how it is. Or is your job to paint SC in the best light?
  • Maybe the problem is less the griefer than the thing called alpha...
  • Perhaps ask for PVP slider or a private server for content creators/shiils next time CIG gives you a ship, a PC or signs a deal with your agent?

He shouldn't worry. Crime and Punishment is only Tier 0 at the moment. Once they achieve the lofty heights of Tier 10 i'm sure he will be safe from stream snipers :p

Oh the lulzbucketry!

What if - when it's someone elses job to host entertaining events for people by testing the pre-pre-alpha in the very earliest stages of development, it becomes increasingly lulzworthy to do when some kiddy who wants to be the center of attention streams over and over and demands that internet peeps and their daddy look at him?

I loved that E-D live stream where some unknown dude was flying a Ferdie-Clownshoe with 'Derek Smart was Right' written on the side...right in front of the camera :)

Can't for the life of me find the screenshot, I used to have it.

They will have firework shows, boys and girls!
From May 22 to June 1, we’ll honor those in the Navy and other armed forces for their tireless service, with high-flying public demonstrations from the UEE Naval fleet, a special display from the 999th Squadron, epic firework shows, and more.

I'm dreading it...I think I'll go back to playing cowboys for the week.

From November 2019:
Mid 2020 they want to have Full Universe Persistence, that’s having dynamic item data saved between servers and sessions on the iCache.
Now:
At this point I think icache/global persistence tier 1 will land before the end of the year but I don't want to specify exact dates,

ICache, global persistence, and physical inventory are several very large features being worked on from multiple angles by multiple teams. It is one of our highest priorities as a company and is actively being worked on. At this point I think icache/global persistence tier 1 will land before the end of the year but I don't want to specify exact dates, one thing to mention is that long term persistence did take some resources away from icache work, but we decided that it was worth it since the quality of life improvement to players would be such a benefit. Physical inventory heavily relies on icache and global persistence, and our entire system was designed around it (unlike the legacy system which was built entirely around itemports on players and ships and so concepts such as loose items and physical vs. legal ownership were unnatural to get working) . For that reason physical inventory will naturally come after that work is completed, though we are trying to find ways to get work started on it in parallel where possible.

What a complete load of absolute, unadulterated, triple distilled mince.

Hire a competent DBA.

Yeah, that sounds like complete and utter tosh.

The more I read the more I expected him to transistion into some cheesy motivation speech...

I just couldn't resist.

For two hundred terapetabytes we have battled the database. We have called these attacks "desyncs" or "mismatches" or "30K's" But I am here to tell you that we are at war! Icache, Global Peristence, Physical Inventory - once silver bullet concepts - all but abandoned in the face of reality. DBK's are at our gates, weapons speared, while we.... we hide and cower; retreating as they batch call and cache miss everything around us.

We cannot let the tragedy of SSOCS happen again. We cannot give the database any more ground! To defend this steaming pile we must attack! And we have to be committed to that attack, whatever the cost may be. We have to rebuild our Optane arrays. We have to use the power of Cloud to reclaim these so-called "100 systems at launch" and strike back at the enemy!

This will not be an easy fight. It will cost us; in rack space, in license fee's, in stretched fiber. Some of you may be asking - "Why undertake such a thing?" and I can tell you in one word: Consistency!

For if there is one thing the database has taught us, it's that with out consistency there can be no game.

They will have firework shows, boys and girls!

Will they also have dancing Ewoks? I'm pretty sure Chris Roberts hasn't ripped off payed tribute to that idea yet.

It's already mid 2020...

A competent DBA wouldn't work with that bunch of Head Bobber yes men.

There is no good reason for one (or preferably three) to do so. CI-G's architecture is utterly naffed from it's very foundations and there is absolutely no hope, as far as I can see, of them ever managing to rearchitect - as their entire development philosophy seems utterly antipodean to established standards. Whilst somewhat antiquated - and to a arguable degree modernly irrelevant - there is a good historical basis for developing upon software concepts that function.
