Newcomer / Intro How do I get past the tutorial?

I’m at a loss, really. I’m playing through the tutorial and I get to the part where I need to do flight checks, but I cannot continue. The game recognises me pressing the buttons (on the right panel there’s a description of what each button that I press does), but it still doesn’t check them off in the checklist. I’ve tried installing and reinstalling, using my joysticks, using my keyboard & mouse, holding the buttons for a few seconds and remapping, but every single time the game only checks off like two functions. How can I make this work? Thanks.

I'll ask the obvious question JUST to remove it as a possibility: you HAVE calibrated the joystick in Win10, right? Beyond that I'm stumped - the checklist requires that full deflection be held for about 2 seconds so if you HAVE, I'm clueless.

Hi all,
got the same problem. Opened a case with Frontier but am still waiting for a reply. Just to see if the keys would even work in game I skipped the tutorial, everything is working fine. I still have to check, but I think you can redo the tutorial from the right hand screen... didn't do the tutorial so I don't know what that on is called :)

Edit: having said that... I only did an auto-launch and auto-land... did I ever press the deploy hardpoints button??? Seriously questioning my testing methodology

Edit2: I AM an idiot, it did work because I had to do another pre-flight checklist before the auto-launch outside the tutorial and it worked. :ROFLMAO:

I'll report back later when I have double checked.

The only drawback to not doing the initial tutorial (Pilot evaluation) is that you don't get the complementary Sidewinder repaint (Emergence? - "Pilot Reward 1") - I noticed this on a recent clear-save.

Do you mean the TARGET program? I tried using that but then Elite: Dangerous didn’t recognise the Hotas at all, so I decided to try and play without it. It only recognises the Hotas without TARGET, unfortunately.

Would skipping the tutorial make it harder for new players? I skipped the tutorial as well but I was just confused on what to do when it wanted me to do a mission. I don’t see any way to reaccess the basic tutorials, either.

There is a calibration facility in Windows - Game Controller Settings / Properties. I think this transient bug that some people have of the check-list not recognising certain things is not going to be affected by the calibration of axes being incorrect.

There are training scenarios available via the internal (right-hand) UI panel.

Right Panel, where it says 'Training'

You had to do another pre-flight checklist? Is there any way to disable that? I don’t want to go through this again. I feel like I know all the controls now because I’ve been trying to activate them so much in the pre-flight checklist 😅

Alright, I’ll try that. Thank you. I’ll update if I find anything new.

I think I may have figured out what was wrong. Some controls were not configured like they were supposed to be. I’m using the Thrustmaster Warthog with the thruster and joystick, but I don’t have any pedals. It looks like I need to try and find a configuration that will work with my setup. I’ll update if I run into more issues.

Edit: Question - does anyone know how to install Aussiedroid’s Enhanced Warthog Scripts? The official instructions for installation aren’t very clear. Thanks.

Yes - that could definitely have been an issue. When FD introduced that preflight checklist, I had all kinds of problems with not being able to complete it because the tutorial more or less insisted on a specific mapping, which I couldn't provide, flying with HOTAS in VR.

I've remapped everything, but it's still not working. For reference, this is all I get when I'm trying to continue.

Alright, I've finally worked it out. I basically set my controls to "empty," and that skipped the preflight checks, and set it back to my controllers straight after. Everything works perfectly! Thanks everyone for all your help.
