Post Your Support for Elite Odyssey to have VR Support.

+1 for me. I play exclusively in VR. Only go flat screen when I’m currently recording the podcast.

I won’t buy the expansion if it isn’t VR supported. And who knows how long I’d keep playing the game at all if I was cut off from the updates like that...

Excited to see the new stuff; anxiously awaiting official VR support announcement so I can know my game isn’t ending support for me.

While I'd like to have VR support, I'll still buy the update even if it doesn't. I've been playing Space Engineers on a tiny 2D laptop screen and enjoying it greatly, and this new update looks way prettier than Space Engineers. I might have to give up VR for this update anyway, as the graphics seem to get a big buff which probably would stress my humble PC in VR but could easily run max settings in 2D.

So yes, I support the OP, but not with the threat of a rage quit. VR or not, this update has my attention and interest 🤷

+1

No VR no buy. It's as simple as that. Hello Games have space legs so I can't see why Frontier can't do the same. There are plenty of comfort options that can be added (snap turning, vignettes) for those that don't have strong VR legs.

After playing this game in VR going back to a flat screen is just an empty experience in comparison.

"Rage-quitting" = cutting off nose to spite face. Quitting if VR is dropped is quitting because the main reason for playing ED has gone. We will just move on. I personally will return to XPlane full time.
Agree. When I say that I will quit playing if VR support is dropped, that is a statement of fact, not emotion, since the VR experience is my main driver to play. If VR support was dropped I would likely start playing other VR games - such as actually trying out Half-life and/or going back to Skyrim. It would be a pity.

I would be very surprised if they dropped VR support for Odyssey. That the Steam page doesn't have the VR logos doesn't really mean a lot at this juncture. We won't really know anything until they start talking about it and giving us some details about it. Hopefully they'll give us an answer on the VR question to put us out of our misery early on, if not very soon.

I've played since beta and I'm a LEP holder, but if it doesn't support VR, then that's it for me, game over. I have no interest in playing an FPS back on my monitor. Whilst I'm sure we'd be able to continue playing in VR in Horizons, I've been aching to get out my seat in VR and walk around the planets and my ship etc, so not to be able to do that would just kill it for me.

I've been playing NMS in VR a fair bit recently and I've been surprised at how well that's been done, even at how quickly I've taken to flying with the virtual joystick and throttle. The sense of scale in NMS in VR is superb too. For whatever reason NMS captures that feeling of vastness and "Whoa, that's huge!" far better than Elite does. Probably because there's more detail in NMS that's on a human scale that helps give you a sense of perspective on how big things are, which is lacking in ED at the moment. Hopefully this new tech they've mentioned will remedy that. But, it doesn make me think, that if a small team like Hello Games can do a great VR implementation, then Frontier should have no excuses.

Is there any info to suggest FDev not going to include VR? Obviously if they don't include it, I won't have any reason to play ED. It will however give me an excuse to finally put proper time in VR X Rebirth which, apparently, has now been updated+modded into a good game.

Also, in 2021 we should get Flight Sim 20 where they're working to have VR at launch. NMS has come on leaps and bounds in VR and is still expanding in scope. Oh and the next Elder Scrolls will almost certainly have VR. X-Plane looks amazing in VR but I want Ampere to run that.

Plenty of great content inbound to switch to if FDev decided to drop VR.

The sad truth is that VR is still niche and that implementing fun and fair/balanced gameplay loops for both 2D and VR is tough.

I love the game in VR, but I doubt it will be supported for the new release and that's fine, there are other games out there and I will continue to play this is 2D.

I personally wouldn't agree with this. Headsets sales are well past 10m/year and growing ( CoVid impact on purchasing notwithstanding ). Even relatively speaking, I don't think it's reasonable to characterise this as 'niche'. This should put net users at somewhere between 25M and 40M, considering some will be repeat buyers.
