I would be extremely surprised if it costs 25€ after ~3 years of development.

It doest take 3 years with a full time team on it. The size of the team working on it fluctuate during this period, it not like if they are make a game from scratch. All network and core gameplay where already inplace. An other thin to keep in mind, if they want to growup they need to keep have new players, having a complete package to higt can stop new player to buy it. Do not forget that they put in place micro transaction (arx). The best way to keep have income is to keep growing the player base by having an affordable price for the complete game.

As long as FD keeps silence, and also doesn't refute the open statement in publictaion... This sound like truth.
Though of course CM from FDev are always welcome to visit thread(s) and leave a note saying that interiors will be delivered along with legs in 2021. Why don't they do this? Don't bother their own forum/community? Or because there is nothing to add to the pointed out in that article? Anyway total radiosilence is FD's choice. And here are outcomes.

Dude, chill out. Patience. It`s just a game (which isn't coming out for at least a year).

I presume €40 or thereabouts for Odyssey.
Upon further consideration I think it will be a €60 bundled with horizons, €50 for DLC only best case scenario. And if I was in FDevs shoes, I'd cut horizons as a DLC and bundled it with base game instead to avoid nightmare of supporting different configs... And frankly if somebody didn't buy horizons still then... I have no words :p

Why bother refuting it or confirming it there are many people on these forums on record as not believing FDev when they say the sun rises in the east.

Core & Horizons were £40 at launch but I have a feeling this one will £50.
I remember that somewhat differently, there was something fudged with that release, marketed as standalone I think, price was higher initially and there was some backlash, and then fdev backpedalled from that.

EDIT sorry I see you were using GBP, I was thinking in €.

If you're right, that's a significant benefit to people who don't bother to purchase Odyssey. Any commercial guy would argue that will impact your sales.

Personally, it would be great if we get significant upgrades to the base game as a consequence of odyssey, but I`m very skeptical.

No I do not see it as a problem at all.
People who love the game will want to own the new content. It is as simple as that.
People who do not want to experience walking around in ships, on planets and in bases, people who do not want to have this experience of leaving your ship on foot, doing combat on foot, and of atmospheric planets with blue skies and perhaps even seas and rivers, will not buy it anyway.

But I can not imagine anyone who enjoys this game not wanting to buy this. It simply does not compute. It is a completely new dimension to ED. And I would not be surpised if FDev would build new future content on this foundation. I think it will be totally worth buying.

Yeah, I think they're going by the same info/lack thereof as the rest of us.

It's a valid and possible, even probable, assumption.

But they don't give any sources, and the content of the article seems entirely based on the trailer and announcement.

So I think it's an assumption.

I assume it's an assumption.
I also assume it's an assumption, I also assume I'm right in hoping the assumption is wrong :)

Exciting times regardless

Sooo........ this looks good. As a long time (Since beta, - and the original in the 80s) Elite fan, its very welcome. However my question would be about immersion. Having recently played the latest build of star citizen (Given thats a very different game) , the immersion there is absolutely unbelievable. The ability to actually walk around your ship, open the airlock etc all add to the immersion. I didnt see anything here in the trailer, - granted its only an announce - that shows ship interiors. Also , if it will be a case of selecting "disembark" from the cockpit panel, and then having a black screen, and suddenly you are on the planet, that would definitely break the immersion. It would be really interesting to know if the ship interiors will be available, and if you can "get out of the seat" while travelling long distances in frame shift.

just some thoughts, but either way, this is a very welcome development. Thank you Devs!

Oh goody. I assume another paid for add on for vanilla ED like Horizions? Since you can get ED + Horizons and a few extras bundles together for £39.99 there is still a way to go to get VFM from my £120 lifetime pass paid in 2015!!!

Hahaha! I actually, really seriously forgot that I paid that to ... thanks for reminding me I get this for free!! ( Well on PC anyway) Ill still probably buy it on Xbox and PS4 :)

Ofcourse they will charge for it... and lets not fool ourselves, it will likely be unfinished on release, so you will have to buy a beta DLC with 2 new features in it and wait for other 3 and a half features to be added later. I wouldn't even be surprised if people who would want to play Odyssey will have to buy the Horizons first. Meanwhile we get tons of new stuff for No Mans Sky for free and no one is complaining about how they don't charge players for it and losing money. But unlike NMS ED has been mostly an empty game for years.

I'm actually not bothered about running around on a planet shooting other players. Could care less for FPS, and Planetfall already offers that. I can see it devolving into a massive shoot fest, so that the minute you appear out of your ship you are ganked by 10 x 8yr olds. Not because you are their enemy, not because they get a mission credit for it, but just cos the can .- seen it all before.

I tend to agree, feels like a full price game,

It seems unfathomable to me that VR would not be supported at some point in Odyssey`s development. No need to get into a tizzy on this one just yet (as some of the posters on that thread are).
Thats what ive been trying to say. But these negative nellies are too ready to grasp at any implausible eventualities just to have a reason to complain. If VR was stated as supported right off the rip, they'd complain about the frame rate, or keep going on about hating the fss or the dss.

If the majority of posters here are right, don't expect a star Citizen like tech - it`ll all have to run on last (current) generation console hardware. That would be an interesting limitation given FD most likely already have next-gen console dev kits, right now.
Indeed and to be honest I don’t care if it is not Star Citizen graphics as long as the game play opportunities are good. Much of Star Citizen is graphical fluff that adds zero to game play. I am sure it is great the first few times you take the train out to the starport to get your ship, but the 20th or 50th time?! Particularly if something happens early on and you have to do it all again just to get back to the ship. When you boil it down what you can do in SC is pretty much the same as what you can do in ED. Mining, cargo hauling, bounty hunting, piracy and interstellar Fedex deliveries if you have a small ship (equivalent to courier missions, I guess). No power play or BGS and any sort of narrative arc looks like it is going into the standalone Squadron 42. Wandering around snow covered forests on Microtech looks fantastic, but unless there is some interesting and engaging gameplay to do, you are going to tire of the view pretty quickly.
If the graphics in the update come close to those shown in the video that will do me. As long as I get to do the stuff I want. Explore the INRA bases on foot. Sneak into a ground installation in my new chameleon suit and hack the datalink. Do a proper covert data retrieval mission! Jump from a FDS with a squad of my friends and win the battle of Dav’s Hope! Proper fun stuff!
