Post Your Support for Elite Odyssey to have VR Support.

I'd settle for just letting me use my XBox controller while on foot and just being able to see in VR (i.e. how Subnautica does it). But if we can't even do that, then I won't be purchasing any more expansions for my alts. :(

And the "not available at launch" is a very bad sign in my view. VR was baked in from the start. If they've created a whole expansion without factoring VR in, then they'd have to go back over the work again. This is the first truly disappointing news I've seen about E: D throughout its life so far.

Agreed completely. I can put up with a projected 2D image for FPS stuff - much like VorpX or the Cinema apps do in VR, but I doubt we'll get even that. Since the transition to 2D isn't much fun now, I can see it not working at all. That's... well, not sure I'd even bother with Carriers now! More clarification needed asap.

At launch.

Read all of it dude.

No, life is not fair and this happens. This is exactly what my thread in general was referring to yesterday.

@Mad Mike sums it up best:
Thing is NMS managed it and it works really really well, hobbiests managed to add it in to doom 3 and NOLF.
If a bedroom Dev can do it without knowing the code inside out, and a small team like NMS Devs can do it and do a full implementation of it as well way more than I would expect from FD, then it can be done....

And history shows us from FDs point not at launch means not any time soon. Only 1 SRV at launch, noulticrew SRV at launch, no NPC wingmates at launch, no NPC multicrew at launch.
Launch is potentially 10-12 months away still. If they know now Vr won't make the cut then that means to me it likely never will.
Had we been a month away and up until that point FD said VR was being worked on, then a month from launch we were told it was being held back I would not be too concerned... But that is not the case here. Oh well. I guess the question now will be if there is ANY VR support at all or if the new plenetary tech means we are stuffed. In which case oculus should pull it from sale.

Edit. Ok so base game will still support it for now so that is a small comfort

We actually agree: You know that 1200/1500 we spend on a graphics card doesn't go to frontier, andI know what you mean that if we have the means to buy such a card, we will have the means to buy a tonne of paint packs when we see something shiny. I agree with that, indeed, I am proof of that principle as I myself have spent silly amounts of money in the frontier store.
We’ll just have to agree to free then. ;)

Again, things aren't always fair.

I was fully expecting this news and well, I am just glad that it will be playable.

You do not need VR to play this game. If you feel you do for some reason, despite the fact I have been playing without VR for years, well... I won't delve further.

Keep posting your support, folks.

I'm personally gutted that after waiting so long, I'll still be waiting even longer than the pancake players... Who knows how I'll feel about the game's future in a few months unless we get more updates on this front.

So, it's confirmed that Horizons will still be available in VR, but Odyssey won't.

So at least I can still fly my ships. I guess it'll be a long time before I can walk around, though.

So... since I’ve got a lifetime pass, the question now becomes: “Is what Elite: Odyssey brings to the table worth not playing the game in VR.” It depends upon what requires pancake mode. I can live without the FPS elements myself, if I can still get atmospheric landings in VR.

Very disappointed at the moment. @Arioch above pretty much sums up my feelings completely. :(

Switching between sitting and roomscale gameplay sounds like a chore tbh. Not everyone has a mansion with tons of space to accomodate both playstyles :) I would need a "changing room" loading screen ("vr player moves his desk away from the playspace, and dons knuckle controllers, please stand by") 😂

Strange as I play NMS still sitting in my chair when I move between the ship and walking around in VR. Why can't the same be done for Elite Dangerous?

At least they have now said Horizons will still work. I'm assuming installing Odyssey will then disable VR permanently? If that is the case, it's a no go. :/

That's unlikely. It'll most likely just be a launcher option, so we'll have Horizons, Odyssey, and maybe still the base game available. Choose which you want to play when you fire it up.

I could live with that, I think. We will have to wait and see, 2021 is still a long way off!

If any of the CM's are still reading I have a genuine question ...

Will people in VR still be able to fly space ships around beneath a blue sky?

In other words, at what point is VR not suppored? Is it when you transition to "legs" or is it when you launch an "Odyssey" version of Elite?
