Agreed. I would happily pay twice the price of a normal game to keep VR going.yep same. I'd pay more to keep VR

designing all the new gameplay elements to work with VR and work well is quite an undertaking.
Ironically it might REMOVE space legs in the ship, since we can at least walk around our cockpits in VR right now.If this DLC does not have space legs in the ship then we will Riot!!!!
LOL. Now people are quoting rampant guessing as if it is factual.Which is a crying shame!
Is Elite Dangerous: Odyssey coming to VR?
Currently, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will not be VR-compatible at launch. We’re big fans of VR and we are truly proud of the amazing experience that we currently offer in Elite Dangerous. However, the new gameplay, mechanics and features that will be introduced with Elite Dangerous: Odyssey means that we had to re-examine if we could deliver that same experience without compromise, which, for launch, means Odyssey will not be VR-compatible.
I guess it's just not clear. For example, at the moment the boundary between base game and Horizons is when you try to enter the exclusion zone of a landable planet. It's not like base game players see one version of the game's render engine and Horizons players see another. It's the same game, there's just some locked content. My assumption would be that Odyssey would work the same way. So they've improved the rendering engine and I would expect everyone to benefit from that to some extent (e.g. if someone with Horizons but not Odyssey landed on an airless world I would expect that they might still benefit from some graphical terrain improvements). I'd imagine that the "locked content" of Odyssey will happen at potentially two places - 1) when you enter the exclusion zone of an atmospheric world, and 2) when you try to get out of the pilots chair. If it's only possible to get out of the pilots chair on the surface of an atmospheric world (bit weird but hey ho) then 1 is the only barrier and I guess VR players won't see blue skies. But maybe it's 2 in which case a ship pilot might still be able to fly over an atmospheric world in VR but not get out of their seat. The way I understood it: You launch the game into vanilla, Horizons or Odyssey. You can't have VR flight beneath a blue sky since blue skies are Odyssey exclusive content where VR is not supported.
While I can understand being locked out of VR because of space legs (something I never wanted anyway) Why are VR users being denied seeing the new planet tech?
VR has come a long, long way. Half Life Alyx is exceptional. Boneworks, Asgard's Wrath, Lone Echo and many others all show just how good VR now is. In a lot of regards, locomotion has been solved - or at least is on the road to being solved.
However. Locomotion in VR is very different to that with a mouse and keyboard. Half Life Alyx for example would be a very different game with mouse and keyboard (and yes, I'm aware of the mod). For Odyssey to support walking around in VR and on-screen would essentially mean two different games that need to be fully balanced with each other.
I wouldn't be surprised if VR for Odyssey never happens. There's a lot of problems to solve.
You all smell that? Smells like fanboy....Oh no... The community is doing their thing over VR... and I also posted a slightly negative post.
Even if it turns out that VR is not feasible, and planet surfaces don't have a full atmosphere and hydrological simulation accurate down to sub atomic levels I will still love this game, and cannot wait CANNOT WAIT to get hold of the expansion and to see where Frontier want to take the game!
I apologise for negativity... enough of that around at the moment!
Good luck with bringing the Xpac to release and realising your vision!
Where is my Zero G Stripper pole for my ships?

Well I have spent hundreds of hours in the game... I suppose it is okay to call me a fan. To spend that time and not enjoy it... what would that be?You all smell that? Smells like fanboy....
Especially when you consider that a lot of us have spent a lot more than that on a PC that supports VR, and currently I only play Elite VR (although that may change it seems). They wouldn't be the first game to do it (see Skyrim VR, Fallout 4 VR, X Rebirth VR), and depending on the price some folks would buy it. I would, for sure.
If it costs more to implement VR, and the alternative is no VR at all, I'd take that.
I'd be okay if the "walking" content was behind a 2D wall but the flying & driving content (like flying over these atmospheric worlds) was available in VR. Right now it sounds like ALL of Odyssey is 2D (including the flying bits), and that's a real shame and totally unnecessary.
