VR support 'not at launch' for Odyssey

At a logical level I totally understand why VR was cut. The time.. effort and trickyness of locomotion all made it a long shot.. At a heart level I am just sad that I'll not be able to stand on an unknown planets surface.. Look at suns rise and just stare open-mouthed in the wonder of it all.. I'll never get the chance to do that in real life.. and now it seems i'll not be able to do it any time soon in a game I've loved since 1984..

I think that's what many of us wanted from space-legs. I can get close with NMS, but I often feel like I've dropped acid and fallen into a Yes album cover populated by deformed alien Teletubbies. What a beautiful thing it would have been to create a realistic galaxy sandbox based upon relatively sound scientific principles, full of life and contemplative wonder which was fully playable in VR. Instead we get... what every other uninspired game developer is doing.

I feel the same way, I'd love to get into NMS but I can't stand the cartoonish graphic design. It's like H.R. Pufnstuf in space.

1.92% of steam users with VR headsets, Might be a long wait.

90 million active steam users currently, 1.92% of that is 1,728,000 VR users. Frontier being ok with excluding that many potential customers is odd, especially considering the base game already is VR supported. It's extra strange considering Odyssey will have console support which means gamepads will obviously be supported, so... It's not a VR input issue.

Yeah, I respect Hello Games for their ambition but I'm often thinking "I wish that Frontier would attempt their own spin on this". Looks like it's not going to happen, for VR players at least.

I 0nly play elite in VR & I’ve been here behind them all the way from Kickstarter days
this was a game that has been built from scratch to support VR...
& was to be built in such a way space legs would be added in along with other stuff
we know that the ships are not built with space legs in mind they are EMPTY for the most part... so then they have said welllll we better do what we should have done to begin with....

so now it looks like they are doing that... Please Please PLEASEEEEEE add VR in very very VERY SOON

I don't understand their thought process to do what they're doing?

They create a successful combat space flight sim with VR and advertise it as that for years. People requested more variety in missions, more varied planets and systems, more ships, more general content keeping with its space flight theme.
Their response is to push VR users out of the game and confuse HOTAS users , all to push some weird FPS mechanic in to a game which doesn't need it.

I think that number is larger among Elite players.

Yes, this is the point often missed. Cockpit games such as racing and fight games often have higher populations of people in VR. Yea, it may be 1.92% overall (btw, it was less than 1% just last year, which means near 100% growth in one year), but that doesn't mean that's the represented population in Elite. Look at this way - 100% of Pavlov players play in VR. Obviously an exaggeration, but you can see my point. The % of users are more than likely much higher for specific games that offer VR as an alternative like Elite Dangerous, Project Cars 2, Assetto Corsa, etc.

I never cared about space legs anyway. Someone wake me when we have biomes to drive around. I'll be doing so in VR.

If VR won't work in the next expansion at all (that is, not just when on foot, but not even in our ships anymore), then I'll be sitting the expansion out entirely. It's actually just that simple for me.

My " I am disspointed about NO VR in Odyssey-Thread" got closed in notime.. the really do not want any critique or opinions at all regarding this
it seems.. or the mods are really moody because the havve to clean up so much.. but really come on ..

Odyssey can't do VR = I won't be playing Odyssey. I may drop in on Horizons from time to time, but in the long run I won't want to play an abandonware game. So, though I've been with Elite for a while now (since 1984) this probably means goodbye :-(

Frontier: please reconsider.
