But what this show is the potential market for VR, and needless to say that its... low.
Yeeeeah, about that, do you have any idea how many users are there on steam? Guesstimates are around 95 million people use steam monthly. So assuming everyone of them bought elite because it is awsum in VR like Alyx (which counted a whopping one million new headsets playing):
95 000 000 × 0.0192 = 1 824 000 users
1 824 000 × 50€ = 91 200 000€

Yeah, that's a negligible market. For sure. Just be aware that the 0.01% shift from the article I linked to the stats you link is 19 000 headsets. That's how mind-bogglingly tiny it is. And it's growing.

if people knew the effort it took to make a game, they might understand what the devs go through. trying to please a bunch of ungrateful people with VR headsets that thier mom prolly bought them for Christmas.. I read VR will not be released at launch . it doesn't say it will never be released..
I bought my VR headset myself after scrimping a few pounds from my pension for 7 months Evil Phil. If I cant use it in Elite (the sole reason for buying it) a feature of the game now that is to be removed later... then yes I'm feeling a bit sore at the moment. LEP and been playing since 1984... ungrateful is the wrong word... supportive and loyal might be better ones to use. If I can continue to use my headset in Horizons then all I have lost is my LEP... but what I gain is an empty galaxy to explore and to gaze upon... if I can't do that then I have no idea what I will do. There is something special in flying flight assist off, side slipping onto a landing site on a planet, getting out of my chair and moving over to the window with a beer and listening to music. You see... I already had legs.

I quite do not understand the accumululation of salt in respect of VR (or not) upon Oddysee -
although I frequently play ED in VR (and enjoy it a lot), in exploration VR is more or less a show-stopper. Handling of FSS and other features in pancake-mode is much much more efficient (OK, I use a 72" monitor in 4K), but the overall performance of ED - besides of combat - really doesn´t point to VR for me....

Sadly im not super surprised there wont be full VR support, i didnt expect there to be when i heard about this update.

I though there would be VR for first or third person view with the already supported devices for input (gamepad, m/kb, etc), possibly with head aiming.

Elite was the game that made me get into VR, ive not played it in screen mode since 2015, likely the game ive spent the most time in VR, spread over three accounts with some cosmetics purchased.

No VR No Buy.

fair point, but I have spent five years honing my controls and could honestly pilot my ship blindfolded.

I would just add that, much like every other feature in Elite dangerous, VR Support has remained almost unchanged and hasnt really been updated for years. What it is and what it could be are not mutually exclusive... much like the original headsets, you need to put the time in to get the most out of it, but for me that was part of the charm. Half life Alyx has changed my position on this. VR is ready to go mainstream and it saddens me that Frontier don’t want to be a part of that when they were one of the first and best.

The people threatening not to buy because no VR, well, good riddance. The amount of entitlement is staggering, embarrassing and downright ridiculous. Grow up people.
I understand you love VR, and I fully wish they implement VR into Elite to encompass space legs, etc., but VR is not a core gameplay component. It's a not a necessity. It's icing on the cake for a select few amount of people. Get over yourselves. You'll get your VR, just not now. Go change your diapers. :p:LOL::ROFLMAO:

Frontier -- thank you for this trailer, and looking forward to all future trailers. Very excited for Odyssey, and currently more concerned about Fleet Carrier issues being resolved.

well put sir... it’s not core gameplay... for YOU. That is called an opinion. For ME it is the ONLY gameplay. This is also an opinion. The rest is just an insult, which I have no interest in.

That's frankly because FSS wasn't implemented with VR in mind, or bluntly speaking it was poorly cobbled from bits and pieces in haste. They could have done it way better in pancake 3d. That would naturally transition to VR like the system map does, despite being almost flat. But the FSS? It's like a throwback to an early Amiga game and IMHO doesn't fit with holo me / cockpit / thousand years into the future tech. It's like an old radio I remember from my childhood... And makes same noises too!

Yes, as ED has a different launcher for VR.
It doesn't for WMR. Got the regular Frontier Launcher. Start Steam VR then launch the game fom the regular launcher.
^ the reason why I left these forums in the first place. This is a gaming forum about a game. They are taking away an aspect of said game, that for some, is literally the sole reason they play it. Period. They are understandably upset and this is your response. Why? Because it doesn’t concern your style of play? Because more players will play? Because we are a minority?

i would love to reductio ad absurdum any and all of this “logic” but, unlike you, have no wish to offend.

Well said!

Are we just ignoring the fact that after 5 years we still aren't getting ship interiors to walk around in? There was a deleted thread already where am FDev employee confirmed ship interiors are not happening. I find that a bigger deal than whining about VR
I agree completely. This is 100 times bigger deal than no VR. The whole point of space legs is to be able to get up out of your cockpit, walk around your ship. Exit your ship while in space, perform EVA shenanigans. To land on a planet and get up out of your cockpit and walk out on the surface. If they plan to do it like NMS where you warp in and out of your ship, that's a big fat fail.

I look at Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen as direct competitors. Elite Dangerous needs to vie for freedom of movement, attention to detail, tactile-ness and realism. Otherwise it's not competing much with SC. Personally, I love all space games and I want to play them all. But Elite Dangerous was my first love and I really want it to succeed.

Thank you for this information.
I have waited patiently for something for the money i spent on the lifetime pass. finally we get "the Largest expansin of the game, bigger than Dangerous and Horizons combined" and now I'm told that I will not be able to use it with tools I have used from day 1. I fully understand that for some reason you cannot do what so many other can do in VR, that is walk. Okay, it's your company and follow any path you choose. I really never understood the reason a space game would need legs. However, I feel that when i purchased a lifetime pass that the game would not be changed so much that it would be unplayable by the standards that were established half a decade ago. It would be nice if the legs part of Elite was out of my reach but it seems by these discussions all parts of Odyssey will be non ED accessable. if this is the case I think that Frontier should at the very least return the investment that the lifetime player made. I feel you have broken a contract made with so many loyal Elite player so many years ago.

Looks awesome!

But why did you change the spacesuits? I honestly prefered the edgy black jumpsuits. Those look more like the ones from star citizen.

So you are saying that since you are use to eating steak and lobster suddenly you are to good for beans and cornbread like the rest of us have to live on?

in exploration VR is more or less a show-stopper.

I would like to object - just came back a month ago from Distant Worlds II, spent 16 months in deep space, all VR. Was a great trip !

? Would you mind reading your post again, with your thinking hat on ? Let’s me give you a head start, shall I - just imagine, Odyssey had been announced today, but unfortunately VR mode only, no flat version. But of course it may follow, they didn‘t say it definitely will never be released... so how exactly would that make you feel if you actually liked this game and spent a couple of hundred hours in it, and anticipated this DLC since more than a year? Do I need to connect even more dots, or did it do the job ?
