I think its important for players to understand that VR not being available 'at launch' is not necessarily the same as VR 'never being implemented', which is how a lot of people are seeming to react
True. The problem is you have to look at FDs track record for cut features "not at launch". It really isn't great for them getting added later.
FD CAN do what they want with their game..... Just as us players can react how we want about that so long as it is within forum rules..
When a customer buys a product due to a feature and it is so fundamental that without it they no longer want that product any more, regardless of what the product is, they ARE entitled to complain.

If you've seen the YouTube channels that show ship interiors - in VR, mind you.. the only way you can do that - such a comment would not surprise you at all. On a lot of ships, half the volume of the ship is taken up by the movement path of the landing gear. There is no way there will be ships interiors with this expansion.. Absolutely no way

I'd personally be fine if the landing gear just disappear. You're right, they're enormous and take up a lot of space-- just handwavium them away after the animation disappears 'em into the main body of the ship like they currently do, I say. It wouldn't bug me at all.

ED without VR in 2020, what's wrong here 🤔 While VR is the future! It's a shame but it's Frontier's choice and I can't do anything. So even if I'm really sad to leave "my" Elite, I would wait for the VR version scheduled for Star Citizen after the final version. Really disappointed and sad. 🌧

'Will Elite Dangerous: Odyssey be included in my Lifetime Expansion Pass?
While Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is a paid expansion, we're happy to confirm that yes, this expansion will absolutely be included in the Lifetime Expansion Pass for free. '

Being pedantic, but something is not FREE if we have already paid for it.
I hear you, I believe that the phrase 'for no addition cost' is more accurate :)

It's certainly interesting that 70 pages more since I went to bed, and nearly ALL of it is VR based. Doesn't that say something? I mean, the VR numbers on Steam didn't drop after Alyx was released. VR is getting bigger, not smaller. I guess we're a tiny tiny minority and the PS5 gang need their FPS (damn, that's harsh, I'm a PS player too.. yeesh, sorry).

The feeling here, and Reddit, and FB and everywhere is, no VR at least in-ship as it is NOW, is a horrible mistake. To the wider 100k audience? I guess we are still a voice. Oh well. I hear Star Citizen is good... cough.

.....

<Frontier enters room holding kitten (Odyssey); VR (Horizons) is waiting, tail wagging excitedly>

FDev: "Oh hey VR, who's a good VR? Good VR.. guess what? We found you a new home!"
VR: "A new home? Ohmygodohmygod Yes, a newhomeomygod... whatchagotthere?"
FDev: "This kitten? Well you're off to a new home, oh yes, a lovely new home, so we have a kitten to replace you"
VR: "A kitten? Wow I love kittens. New home, yes, new home. Wait.. why are you strangling the new kitten?"
FDev: "The kitten? Oh we hate kittens"

.....

I'll look after Horizons; good old boy he is. I'd never kick a good old boy out. Poor kitten.
The thing with VR is that not every ED player is a vr user.... But in my experience the majority of PC VR users DO own ED so there are a few of us

👍😂

Where is there mention of a gift?

Someone asked is it included in the life time pass, the answer was they are happy to confirm yes.

What is wrong with them answering someones question?
No criticism from me in the post of the OP, and no intention to hurt.

It is certainly my fault because in a French spirit, a French interpretation of the sentence of the OP below, the fact of specifying that despite that the extension is not free, we have the privilege of obtaining it for free, while this is completely normal.

In the French spirit the meaning of this sentence can be interpreted as a favor that is done to pass holders.

In a French spirit, a more cartesian sentence would be for example:

"The pass holders benefit from all new developments (free or not free) throughout the life of the game" (Without needing to specify that the DLC is not free)

But I forgot that the meaning is expressed here in English, which must be different. :)

"While Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is a paid expansion, we're happy to confirm that yes, this expansion will absolutely be included in the Lifetime Expansion Pass for free."

I can also point out that we don't get it for free since we paid for the pass and all kickstarter backers have allowed this game to see the light of day.

Does nobody see the elephant in the room? There will be a new graphic engine wich does not support VR running Odyssey and we will be abel to play horizons in VR. I think leads only to the conclusion that this are two seperate games and there is not the possiblity to have CMDR manned ships and foot soldiers in the same instance. There are no space legs but an elite based ego shooter quite similar to the CQC mess.

That's not possible! :)

I would just like to provide this reminder for a bit of context as to why many users, who consider VR an integral part of the ED experience, might be justifiably skeptical whether VR will ever make it into the Odyssey codebase if it's not there right from the start:

Elite Dangerous on Playstation 4 FAQ said:
Elite Dangerous is a flagship VR game on PC so of course, VR is important to us. It’s definitely something we’re looking into, but we have nothing to announce for launch.

If it wasn't already crystal clear from the last couple of years, there have been big shifts in staff and culture within the company. The original game burst out of a driven team with a bunch of good ideas. They're gone now, and all that remains is some dedicated players and a collection of well meaning jobbers that don't know what to do with the game they have stewardship of. It takes more than a Braben to build a game in 2020.

Anway, it had a good run, all things considered. Bury the game, come back, and if it somehow turns out to be worth the wait it'll be a nice and extremely unlikely surprise.

This is not true. Adam Woods is still on the project. The other Adam who has working on the game took Sandy's post. Others have moved from QA into other roles and im sure there's plenty more we don't see still working behind the scenes. One staff complaint was 'not enough promotion from below' and this certainly seems to have changed somewhat. Besides, it's not as if people didn't complain about the original release and those responsible, is it?

Well its either:

VR users are too small a niche to design around, so they looked at the numbers and took the hit.

FD want to simplify ED to fit its other portfolio, which means the crazy years of oddball KS stuff is behind it.

In either case its a matter of waiting for either clarification or the betas to see its final form.
