WHAT ? Are you saying that you are going to remove a feature from the base game that is VR?

Or are you saying that the VR is disabled when I get off the ship?

Are you saying that you are going to disable one of the best options that the game currently has? Do you know that a lot of people play VR including me? but are you not going to do anything right in these 3 years?

if you take away an option that came with the base game I will claim the money from the game the dlc and all the skins even if I have to sue you
So, will you attend the case physically or use VR? Eventually, they'll develop VR for Oddysey, but if you sue them and win then no one will have VR. Can you imagine the horror of VR-less world? I for one tremble at night, cold with sweat, constantly thinking about it.

You may be right (or not, i don't known), but what can I do other than wait? RSI said it will be done in the final version. Frontier said there was no VR at launch, so we'll see who does it first. But I would not buy Odyssey for sure and I see no point in continuing with Horizon (Just for info I am triple 140, 15 billion credits, Corvette, Cutter, etc ... all almost fully equipped (gardians and engineers ) Not much else to do ...)
Agreed, I am the same, there's no more development going on in the game for VR players after fleet carriers so it's a dead end for me.

Maybe you should read the license agreement. You may be able to get a refund on a LEP but any cash you spent skins and ship kits is gone forever. if you think non mandatory dlc dissatisfaction entitles you to a refund for paint jobs you be even more upset than you already are

again i dont really understand why so many VR users are complaining.. for so long now.. rage quitting because of something they don't have to play. Horizions will still be on your launcher you can switch the clients just like they did with the base game and Horizions ...when you do the odyssey content will be locked. switch back and it wont. Stop acting like children. I mean they are doing their best... And give them bloody time.. they are still way ahead of any other space game out there... and there will prolly be additions to Horizions and Elite to incorperate the srv and ship combat with the FPS.. Remember ED and Horizions could play together when it launched. so my guess is VR players will be able to be in SRV's and ships while ground forces are moving in... so cover me!!!! And i am sorry but if you cant play a game in nothing but VR... you need to quit for a while anyways.
Not understanding something, generally isn't a good beginning of claiming you're right.

I bought this game because VR. That is absolutely the one and only reason I play ED. Without VR I simply wouldn't be interested in playing. I love the game in VR. It's better than any other computer game I have played since I started in the late 1970's. I also know how much work is going into making a game like this, having done 3D modelling and animation for more than 30 years.

Still, without VR this is just another game, and you can feed pigs with those.

Here is an interview from April 2014 that answers the question...

Nice find. I remember reading that article (or a similar one) back then.

From the article that was published on 11th April 2014, which was during beta pre release, in reponse to the article 'How Frontier is bringing Elite: Dangerous to VR', David Braben OBE had this to say:

Why did you decide to add VR support to Elite: Dangerous?

It was something requested by backers, but also something we wanted to do too. We have said from the start that we are writing this game for ourselves, and collectively we were excited by VR.

How did this affect the overall development of the game? What did you have to take into account when adding VR functionality?

It hasn’t especially affected the game’s development because it was such a natural fit. We had to bear in mind that most people would still play the game without VR. From our alpha test, nearly ten per cent of players played using Oculus Rift – it was a surprise to us that it was so high, given the kit that is out now is essentially a developer kit.

When supporting VR we looked at how we could embrace the extra functionality – so things like displays that pop up when you look at them add to the richness of the experience.

You’re already reimagining a classic games franchise, but what challenges does reimagining it for VR add?

In my mind at least, I was already sitting in a cockpit and flying a spaceship with both the original Elite and with Frontier. VR brings the reality of it one step closer, so it was not really a challenge; very little ‘reimagining’ was needed.

This was the sort of talk that got people like me excited about Elite (in VR), and shelling out during the Beta Test phase pre release.

There were no promises, but I think it aptly spells out where certain expectations came from, and why there are those among us like myself that are so disappointed.

I wonder how they will manage physics when disembarking, on foot, on a 9G planet.
Temperature should be a problem, too.
I would like to see extra vehicule activity in deep space, to salvage wrecks or make repairs or just the fun of it.
And we need those magnetic boots sounds as well when walking in ships, outposts, because of zero G. I don't want to see us walking like if there was gravity. It is not immersive at all.
It's going to be hard work. It's going to take time. It may fail...

Probably something like the Goliath power armor from the expanse

I have few questions regarding the current state of Odyssey and based on this first announcement video.
Maybe CMs could answer for some of them? Would be nice:

-How exiting the ship will look? - transition with black screen or short animation, or both? - like with SRV now.
-Can we exit the ship inside SRV and then exit the SRV and stand on the ground while SRV will stay empty nearby?
-Can our NPC crew member leave the ship with us? (we see a girl in companion in teaser video)
-Will our NPC crew memeber be present with us in our ship cockpit?
-What kind of atmospheric planets we can visit in Odyssey? (ice, wateworlds, ELWs, volcanic, desert, barren?)
-Whan will happen if somone shot us down when we're on our legs? - (rebuy screen or we will go back to ship, or something elese?)
-How to understand our presence outside the ship? Can we get wounded or unconscious? Or it will be some kind of 'virtual' presence: hologram, avatar or even a clone of our commander?
-What improvement of planetary surfaces can we expect? - dust, fog, water, rain, snow, wind?
-Will 'space legs' be the acual new mechanics/system for walking and doing stuff or only simply different HUD and appearance model? I mean in SRV we see HUD, cabin around us and SRV model. SRV rides fast and we can shoot from the turret. I hope that 'space legs' aren't just helmet around us, different HUD and model of our commander which can shoot from the rifle scope instead of turret camera. And he changing place just slower than SRV and just with animation of moving legs.
-Can we expect picking up things to our hands, dropping things, running, crouching, talking, making gesture like waving or shaking hands, hiding behind objects etc?
-Will interactions with people and places be dynamic and interesting with new mechanics and animations? Or something like: walk > black screen > some kind of menu > klick some options > black screen > walk?
-Can we expect walking in interiors? Like entering to ground bases and starports?
-Will other places be populated? Like ground control staff on landing pad, flight control staff, ship outfitting staff etc.
-What kind of interaction with other commander can we expect with 'space legs' different than shooting?
-Will Thargoids also get 'space legs' for their infantry?

edit Added:
-How low G and high G will affect our walking?
Agreed with all but the highlighted: I don't get what you mean. Basically it's what an FPS is: a cam with a hud and a weapon in the field of view and a locomotion speed and limitations based upon human body's own limitations + any addition required by the gamedesign chosen (fast or realistic, crawling/climbing, jetpack...)

I think its important for players to understand that VR not being available 'at launch' is not necessarily the same as VR 'never being implemented', which is how a lot of people are seeming to react.

Makes sense, if you don´t know FDevs history on "VR not being available 'at launch'."
Remember 2014? Back then, FDev said this about Playstation VR:
"Elite Dangerous is a flagship VR game on PC so of course, VR is important to us. It’s definitely something we’re looking into, but we have nothing to announce for launch."

It´s been well over 5 years since, and it´s never been implemented or mentioned again. Since it´s pretty much the same wording as in the current annoucement, I´m rather sure this is how FDev´s marketing department says "Nah, can´t be bothered to do that but let´s make it sound as if we were on it so our fanboys will defend us. Just like always."

Not being available 'at launch' is most likely the same as 'never being implemented'. This is why I´m as disappointed as I am. This is why people are upset.
