They don't, but I'm pretty sure ED is also not self-sustaining which is what an MMO strives to be. Even the F2P MMOs are generally backed by other paid MMOs from the same developer/publisher or other means that actually make them enough money. The problem with FDev having to produce more games to get money for ED is they spread their dev resources thin which is why we don't see many updates like you normally would with a healthy MMO or even a healthy non-MMO.
I don't think lack of subscription revenue is the problem. Subscriptions for specific content may be a solution, but lack of that is not the problem.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but Peer to Peer networking is a bad choice for an MMO.

Was actually going to mention that. The reason for that is they have no monthly income to run dedicated servers like a real MMO. So it's a compromise due to a poor business decision.

Yes and for the anecdote, below a question / answer during the kickstarter.

I know most wi disagree with me and that is fine. I get and respect why FD felt selling credits for cash but allowing EVERYTHING in-game to be purchased with credits is bad optics and does rely on putting a lot of trust in the developers.... I so wish FD had stuck to that pledge.
I have no issues with people paying to skip content but imo the game would have been better with a more controlled economy and I would really enjoy working in-game to buy skins and ship kits for cash. That for me would be almost infinite long term content.
As it is i have no bond to the skins I have bought and indeed not even bothered to fit them because they were not earned in game

In all probability, their obviously poorly written netcode has cost them much more than centralized servers ever would. To say nothing of the likelihood the community could have done that for them.

You also know that there have been many discussions on this subject on the forums.

It was certainly for profit. Frontier was a small company at the time.

Countless Cmdrs in the threads, have said that ED is not really an MMO.

Not quite sure what you meant to say here...lack of what is not the problem? Funds? If they had plenty of funds solely dedicated to ED on a regular basis we would see more features and content being added more quickly and more attention paid to the players.

Peer to peer can be done right. A number of RTS games (which are of considerably greater complexity) have used it

Considering acquiescing to the community's basic expectations would require trivial effort as compared to say, the planets procedural generation and such, yes, they have the funds.

Notice, I linked to Glassdoor. I have long suspected FDev management really only cares about specific things they want to see in Elite Dangerous, for purely egotistical reasons, and couldn't care less about what their paying customers think. Or maybe even their employees.

Like I said, vaporware is fraud.

Honestly, they should survey all the players and get some real numbers. They of course would have to state what they would actually strive for and provide to subscribers in the event they offered a subscription plan. Because they could go to a fremium model which has worked really well for many MMOs in the past. But who knows...people about paid expansions, and I totally have no problems with and expect from a game like this....

I mean, EverQuest is still running with subs and paid expansions.
They have already had a sample of the mood of Cmdrs in the threads with a strong participation and a big animation. :sneaky:

Gotcha.

Oh, I have VR. I have a Pimax 5K+ which is bigger the all the other available VR solutions. But I also play on my monitor when doing a short game session and I still have fun, that's how I know I can live without it, and will get the expansion if I like what I see.
Haha! Yup, the 5K+ it is the biggest/widest!
Are you defo thinking about joining the pj club then?
What were you thinking about getting? Are you all researched up?

Indeed which falls back to the roots of the game initially not really intending to be an MMO . In some things I am biased and may have selective memory but this fact was from the horse's mouth DB himself who felt that the game would technically be an MMO but practically would not be in the usual sense so would be carefully marketed to be clear (with hind sight lol at that)

As with the subscriptions, the vast majority of Cmdrs are against winning in the game with real money. :)

Makes sense.
