Newcomer / Intro Will cargo transfer to a free Sidewinder if my ship is destroyed?

I get concerned by how often people mention that they enjoy annoying other players.

Is posting your experience in a forum and others commenting on it really "unsolicited"?

No. I knew someone would pull me up on that. :D

And I only meant it would be fun to annoy griefers.

Is it though? It's just getting into a loop then.
Griefing seems to me to be mainly attention seeking so ignoring them altogether is the best antidote.

Cycle of violence and all that. I get it and you're almost certainly right.

Maybe I'll mature but annoying griefers is kind've a side mission goal I have. Only a side mission, mind. I'm very much more an explorer.

I've actually wanted to go see a nebula so I was intrigued by that aspect of making a run for Maia. And truth be told, I'm too lazy to bother with farming or mining etc. If there's no alloys available when I get there I'll just explore the region until they are.

And I agree with your general view of things. I would never want the danger removed from Elite Dangerous. The first time I hit a neutron star was awesome and even the ganker guy was kind've a fun learning experience. I'm just a newbie but hopefully I'll figure out how to get around certain problems without going into solo play.

Thanks for the advice, by the way.
If it was helpful, then you're more than welcome!

The key for me is recognising that the ED universe is not a nice one (and on many fronts can actually be a pretty nasty, harsh and unforgiving one), and not expecting that other players should somehow be an exception to that.

Anyway, keep up the good work, it sounds like you'll get a lot out of the game!

A bit of a further tip (and not one I see in circulation very often) - don't just treat the engineer unlocks as basic fetch and carry quests. Have a think about what they're actually asking you to do, and how that fits into the wider galaxy. And in the case of a few of them, what those things they're asking you to get actually are. ;)

Good luck! o7

PS.
The Sidewinder idea doesn't seem unreasonable.
I did an Engineers Round-Robin yesterday and noone of the present Combatants took any interest in me, not even in Shinrarta Dezhra.
(wouldn't have mattered, since I could have outrun almost anything due to existing Engineering state of that tiny speeder - otherwise wouldn't have been any big loss :D )

Made the same experience when I did the same in my Hauler.

I did actually buy a Sidewinder when I was last on Friday and jacked it up as much as I could. Just as a backup in case I didn't want to use my Cobra for whatever reason. Hi, FalconFly, by the way.

I just think I'd prefer to be annoying like Chris.
lol
Yeah, Maggie kind of has a point, too, but to be honest, sometimes you simply can't ignore griefers and when that happens, to be annoying is the best course of action, imho. Taste of their own medicine and all that jazz. :)

Just don't be TOO MUCH like me, please, because I tend to troll people even here on the Forum and that I know is not very nice.

I've put this mysterious and strange piece of advice in a Notepad file in case I need it later. Thanks, Thatchino.

Griefers are part of the game. It's their fun to blow up unsuspecting players for nothing. It's also part of the game to make life difficult for them. You can play as a white knight, a policeman or a nasty yappy dog that keeps biting their ankles - nothing wrong with that, and it's exactly what I am doing at the moment.

Where I am, there's a continuous stream of harmless and mostly harmless commanders full of hope as they fly in to get their ships upgraded, but from time to time there are one or more players that want to give them disappointment by blowing them up. My role is to ensure that ,as far as possible, the hopes of the innocent players are fulfilled.

Contrary to what has been said, you don't need a fully engineered combat ship to chase these bad guys away. All you need is a fast Sidewinder with a 2A FSD interdictor. Weapons aren't needed, neither are shields. performanced enhanced thrusters help a lot. You interdict the bad guys, then boost away in silent running, go back to SC and repeat. Even if you mess up, the rebuy cost is so low that the guy that got you probably paid more for ammo, so pay your rebuy cost and go and get them again and again until they leave or block you. By blocking you, they cut down the chance of interacting with any players that come into your instance, which will reduce their opportunities to grief, so either way you win.

Another way to get them is when they're hanging around a player magnet in normal space. You get a shieldless Sidewinder with a long-range beam laser with thermal vent, long range sensors and performance enhanced thrusters. You drop into the instance and move out to about 10km. You now have two choices: Firstly, you can choose a target, engage silent running, go in and blast them from about 5 to 6km. That won't do any damage, but it will register on their radar as incoming fire. They probably won't be able to see you, but when they turn, boost at right angles and repeat or boost away out of range again, then repeat. Secondly, you can save the good guys when they get attacked by one of the griefers by charging in and getting the griefer from behind, which at least at first makes them panic and turn around, then you run away. That gives the good guy victim a chance to escape. It's great fun running the gauntlet of the griefers gang. There are often 4 or more in the gang, so you need to be careful about which direction you approach and escape. watch out for fast ships in their gang, like Imperial Courriers. Silent running will be your friend if you can get enough range to disappear.

Yeah, I agree with everything Maggie said below the first sentence. Thanks for the reply, d8veh. Lots of interesting takes from various different angles here.

Also, nice work with the griefers. I thought that was gonna be a stupid post when I first started reading.

Not that I discourage stupid opinions or anything. It's always interesting to hear different perspectives on things, even if they are a bit dumb. God knows I have some idiotic thoughts running through my head.
