It's it just a stereo offset image into each eye?
There was a follow in another thread who said it worked for him and he only has one eye.
I imagine it would. If someone in real life is used to seeing through one eye, then it would be the same in VR (imo). Where there is no depth perspective per se, but head movement would give that, as closer objects move more than far ones as in parallax (I think).

Maggie_Oz, I think it was you some posts back that mentioned this being their condition. If so (I know we have different opinions about Odyssey and VR), and you'd like to adopt VR one day but saw this as a barrier, it may e worth investigating. The way you perceive the world naturally is that way, so it would be something you have adapted to anyway. Hell, you could have just the one screen and double the resolution without a performance hit on your rig!

I do sympathise with you ..... It must be annoying but for some of us ED may as well be having the servers shut down... I imaging if ED was announcing they were dropping PC support all together because consoles were their majority sales and pc was a niche..... That the niche pc players would probably kick up a stink
I think I would probably go and buy a console instead. I did consider getting a console to play ED, but the general consensus was PC was a better experience.

OK. Without stereoscopic vision VR wouldn't work. The images are projected onto two screens from slightly different angles to give the 3D effect.
While it wouldn't give the 3d effect, you still got isolation, head tracking and a 360 degree view of the game, essentially still being in game, only without depth cues. I mentioned a friend who can't see depth and still bought a VR headset. I'm no optician, I don't know exactly how it would work but assume perfectly working trackir without the need to stay glued to the screen.

Forgot to tag @Maggie_Oz .

Fair enough but I bet you would.moan about it a hell of a lot in the thread that announced it.... But even if you personally wouldn't and you would just politely take it on the chin before getting out the credit card, I dare say most wouldn't be so kind.

Bit of a segue but how are you finding that? My games pc is currently booked up to my TV in my man cave but it's something I have thought about (I haven't actually had a pc monitor for over a decade). I would not do it for CV1 it's not high enough res but I was thinking once HP reverb G2 came out of it may actually be practical to ditch the screen all together.
Indeed for me that is the compromise FD should consider IF nausea and issues with locomotion with legs is genuinely their concern. That way the rest of the game plays in proper vr, but go on foot and it's does a hellblade VR like zoom out to a size configurable cinema screen to play in 2D.
Great idea, but as an option, if the only reason is to avoid motion sickness.

That's the thing that tracks where you are looking yes?
It tracks head movement and can be had for around 25€. Eye trackers on the other hand track your eyes and are bloody more expensive. So expensive in fact that a VR headset makes much more sense. The downside with track ir is that the screen is still in front of you so you make little head movements in order to not lose sight of it.

More then a little disappointed that Odyssey is not Going to support VR ... ED was the game that made me jump into the VR space to begin with ... frakly 99% of VR titles at the moment are little more then tech demos, however that changed with Valve's HL Alyx, we've just seen a huge spike in VR Gear .... and frankly anyone building VR hardware right now should throw some funds in Fronteir's direction IMHO to put funding towards Odyssey VR compatibility ... because IMHO this is the VR killer App no one know about.

Mistake or not releasing the trailer has certainly brightened up a so far grim 2020. I didn't buy Elite for space legs or any kind of FPS combat but I have to admit the possibilities seem intriguing so I'll hold off on saying anything until I know more but I'm so excited for atmospheric landings, even if it is just barren world's to start with, hopefully that changes upon release or soon after. Graphically it looks great and I hope that relates to whole game and not just Atmos worlds. Thanks to the whole team, stay safe guys. o7

p.s.: forgot to mention that EDTracker doesn't require any external lights or sensors, so it's not daylight sensitive.
How much does it cost nowadays? I am totally out of the loop on this one. Used to be 60€.
You're right about the sensitivity to light - I needed blinds closed on order to play or there were tracking errors, as trackir is basically 3 IR LEDs tracked by a camera... EDTracker uses gyroscopes IIRC.

It is pretty unlikely scenario as the PC games market remains healthy despite consoles having been around for years. The deal breakers for me are around gameplay. Poorly thought out play options despite the flashiest graphics and sound are a waste of time IMHO. I played the original Elite for hours, wire frame graphics and tinny 8 bit sound and loved it. What I have now is streets ahead.

I have and use Track IR for flight sim (dont use VR for this because I fly VFR and use an actual map and flight planning involving pen and paper... no glass cockpit in my cessna 152). Started ED in 2D mode and used Track IR this afternoon... just to give myself some hope... it was no real comparison... I can't go back. A comparison for me would be; looking through the letterbox to standing outside. I went to a school that had windows high up the walls... so that the students wouldn't gaze out of the windows... oh the memories... shudder! 😞

Do you use that so you can look left and right etc without having to use the mouse?
I'd recommend EDTracker. It is far cheaper and has a wireless model available as well. Okay, you do have to strap a small box onto your headset/baseball hat... So that bit is no different to VR. 😉

But chiefly, you can use it to look around with your head movement. Really good. I use it myself.
