Fleet carriers are a epic fail in one word

The FC right now feels like a mobile station, because it cannot move in a system. So Frontier should add an option for FC to move (jump) inside a star system.
Wait, they changed that? 'cause I did exactly that in the beta. I jumped the carrier to the main star by accident, then once the cooldown was over I jumped it again to put it around the planet I was mining. It worked fine.

For as long as there's Cheaters in the Game and this Player-owned Asset is persistent across all Modes and Platforms.... Indestructible is the only way to go.

Carriers can still perform in-System Jumps, nothing changed.
I still see "set Carrier Destination" when I look around the System Map bodies via Carrier Management Plotting, so it could jump to any Body I select.
(btw. I already parked mine on a selected position inside the System nearest to the Station where I needed it)

They are only a Vanity item for those who grind and grind and grind like mad men.
I don’t plan to grind for one but I will get one eventually. And I fail to see how wanting to take multiple ships to deep space, for instance, or fly to Colonia or back with a small personal fleet, or invade an enemy’s space and park a mobile platform on his doorstep, a vanity item. There does need to be some way for others to counter its presence during conflicts, I agree.

Speaking of conflicts, your EDF Colonia offshoot, EEF, lost it’s eponymous system up there, and the very planetary base with your name on it is in the hands of anarchists. But tell me the name Viktor’s Promise wasn’t conceived with vanity in mind haha.

I guess you refer to the last part with the reputation? Hmm, maybe. But while you potentially could get that, I don't actually ever see anything like it. When people at any of the games I play mention a bad community, it's always first EvE. Then usually followed up by LoL and ED. So yes, I forgot to mention LoL above, I am sorry.

The other games you mentioned rarely make it into the list. But I have to admit that the other games you mention usually are played by younger people. So while some of the games i play also are played by people age below 25, they still might not be within my "perception range" any more.

I suppose different people. When i talk about ED just about everyone i know says "What?" then i have to start talking about the original Elite first, then they will say "Oh yeah, i remember playing that on the Spectrum/BBC/whatever", and then that's about it. EvE just never really comes up in conversation. Games like CoD, BF, Overwatch, Fortnite, AC, LoL, etc.... yeah, they know about those games and their communities.

fly to Colonia or back
I actually thought about that too, but given thats 40+ jumps, with a delay of 20 minutes each, id rather go fly there the old fashioned way...
At any rate, i do like those things being mobile repair stations, so you dont have to carry decontamination limpets around anymore, but other than that
i too dont find theese things all that useful, or that they provide any additional gameplay really.

At my current fleet size, if I wanted to move to Colonia then buying a carrier, loading everything onto it, jumping it there and then transferring everything off and decommissioning the carrier at the other end would actually be cheaper than transferring everything using the existing mechanics.

It has a purpose. Its a mobile base for miners to park near some rings, and load up a full load of ore to go and sell later. The upkeep is a tad expensive. I'm ok with saving up for additional modules but upkeep...

You also can park in systems you want to impact for trading, or a hub to start exploring from. It just gave us some freedom. It wasn't meant for combat.

It can, you can target planets from the system map. I did this in the beta, though haven't confirmed yet since the update.

Edit: as several others pointed out. :)

So you have to sell your cargo to your own carrier and then buy it back to ferry it to the end trade location. Plus you will have to hope it’s not 20,000 LS away from your desired station as has happened to me already.

As for folk talking about 40 jumps to Colonia with 20 minutes between jumps. They are forgetting the Tritium mining required to fuel the ships which will add A much longer time.

Even if they were destructable, not many ships could withstand the might of 20 huge hard points bearing down on them. Max shield cutters melt in seconds from the firepower Carriers are capable of. What kind of assault were you planning under those conditions?
Fleet carrier vs Fleet carrier, along with support ships from the 2 carriers, in an intense battle. c'mon dude, you couldnt figure this out !!

That being said, carriers do not take anything away from the game, they just add options to those that want to use them. So it's all positives without negatives.. Ofc people that can't afford them will cry since they can't get them for free and have to actually put some work in.

That by definition is not a fail, let alone an epic one. How about you don't use them and continue to live your life?
well, I guess he could argue that the devs could have updated the game with content that was more accessible to more players. c'mon man, you couldnt figure this out on your own ??

I dunno, I don't plan on getting one. But some nice guy/gal parked theirs in Borann, I had forgotten limpets. Set no tariff. I topped up my limpets, went after my Bromelite, and stopped back and donated all the tritium I'd gathered to the carrier.
I like em.
