General Auto pitch-up near planets toggle.

I haven't actually noticed this. Maybe I haven't been close enough for long enough or something. Usually I'm in a Vulture so maybe its agility is enough for me not to notice right away, and using a controller, I have a roughly 19% multi-axes maneuverability handicap in the corners of the analog sticks, since it doesn't actually have corners. Par for the course these days, I'm afraid.

I fly inverted not too infrequently, but it is usually a bit higher up.

I'll have to keep an eye out.

Hello, could we have a toggle for the function that automatically levels flight near the surface of planets, it’s a bit “hand-holdy” to be frank and like rotational correction it is appreciated but would be less intrusive if it were an option.

thx
I also haven't noticed this - can you describe it in more detail?

It's not a function that sets level flight, the ship computer assumes, if you set all controls to zero, you wish to maintain the current altitude, it uses the ventral thrusters to do this and since they work best when the ship is level, that's how you end up. I can assure you, from the many times I have tried to fly through planets, that it won't auto-level when you are doing 600mps a few meters above the ground.

So if you are flying along and set thrust to zero, the ship will attempt to stop itself dropping and level the ship for you until you stop descending. As someone said, setting FA off will indeed cancel this function.

ok but can we have a toggle that switches it off

Auto pitch gets inhibited with 4 PIPS to engines, a toggle would be great though. Also as others have mentioned, you can disable FA.

Anyway, have a play around with PIPS/Throttle settings. You'll notice the Auto leveler can be disabled.

Yes please, let me worry about the orientation of my vessel relative to the ground, dont do it for me.

There have been lots of times where I purpousely dont level the ship with the planet for reasons like inspecting something or hovering while looking at something wether its on the planets surface or another vessel, or on a station. I dont need my field of view taken away by the auto-level and furthermo- OH LOOK A PENNY

.... ships auto level? I thought that was a combination of gravity and your ships thrusters.

Yes, it's designed to do that using the thrusters to level at a set elevation, basically whatever height you want to stop everything at.

That would be one more thing for new players need to learn about when landing on high G planets, that your reverse thrust doesn't have enough power to hold you up in the sky, I might need more 🍿for this. However for experienced players giving them full control over all aspects of ship behaviour is fine.

So... i misused my terms i think... as the op said auto-pitch whereas i said auto level.

I am aware of the auto levelling (in that the ship tries to maintain the current height above ground)... but as someone else suggested, fa off turns that off (iirc... been a while).

But auto-pitching, I've never seen that happen in any way that isn't that thruster interaction, which can be overridden by fa off? That is, if i point to the ground, i (unsteadily) maintain that orientation.

I would actually request this NOT be added. Your ship has a pitch ladder within planetary flight, and just seems like one more toggle to worry about, and another keybind. I'm not sure what the application would be to have one other than preventing crashes with the planet surface.
