Stop with the troll semantics, please. No, VR has not been removed from Odyssey. It can't be removed from something that never had it in the first place. It's not being implemented in Odyssey, which I'm upset about, but they are not removing it.

I think it could have VR support, it just likely that its a lot more involved then what we have currently to get it to work well. Hopefully, they will release a VR update later.Actually you might both be right, as there is a launcher in-between which selects the client version you will be playing. Game is p2p so it needs to talk to other game clients. For all intents and purposes this could be a new game, only talking to legacy systems in a language they can understand - so backwards compatible. But, being a rewrite, doesn't have VR support. Makes perfect sense. They will sell it as DLC so maybe it shares user account code, assets and so forth, but the engine could be completely different and we will be none the wiser.
It's not trolling. I just want people to stop with the silly histrionics.Stop with the troll semantics, please.
OK, last try to have a reasonable discussion about this. Let's assume for a moment Odyssey is incompatible with HOTAS at launch, because of the FPS mechanics. Everyone will be using M+KB from now on to fly and go on foot. But HOTAS of course will remain compatible with Horizons, you can still play using your hotas there. It's not trolling. That would apply to non-VR Fallout 4 as well. But OK, let's look at a new VR game then:As for concurrent player numbers, well, the game is old and is not a sandbox so I think many people finished it.
OK, let's look at a new VR game then:
1024 people playing Half-Life: Alyx, released in 2020.
791 people playing Half-Life 2, released in 2004.

It doesn't matter if the base game or horizons already had it. Odyssey is a new unreleased expansion, which will not have VR. No if VR was going from horizons, then yes, that would be removing VR.

Would you say HOTAS support was removed from Elite: Dangerous Odyssey or "it was never there in the first place"? You aren't technically wrong, you know, in a most lawyer-ish kind of way.
Well the CM told us otherwise and we're kicking stink up about it. "VR won't be compatible with Odyssey at launch" is what they said, and then added "It will remain compatible with Horizons and Base", further reinforcing the fact that there will be no VR in Odyssey in my opinion. Takes a lot of goodwill to translate that to "only fps bits won't be VR-compatible but you will still be able to fly in VR", sadly. However what may be the case (and it has yet to be established) is that VR support will continue to work for existing flying & SRV stuff even in Odyssey, but not for walking about, and that the transition would make it awkward for VR users so FDev are saying 'assume the worst'.
It was never there in the first place so it's not taken away, and it not being correct in a lawyer kind of way, it's just they way it is. That's completely irrelevant as we can still play the base game and horizons in VR so we're technically not loosing anything that we have had.Meh, semantics. Granted, we don't know yet how exactly things will turn out (and neither does Frontier at the moment I think). But maybe there will indeed be no VR in Odyssey, even in space.
Given that Odyssey is not a completely new game, but an update to Elite, I think it's reasonable to assume they branched off Odyssey from a certain Horizons build at some point in the past. In that case they literally would have removed VR support. You know, semantically speaking.![]()
Ah, so how long is the single-player campaign of HL2 that after 16 years its player numbers are still in the same ballpark with HL:A?You are aware that it's about 13h singleplayer campaign?

IDK where you are going with this, but I also replayed Black Mesa and HL2 with episodes before playing Alyx with my wife who didn't know the original HL.Ah, so how long is the single-player campaign of HL2 that after 16 years its player numbers are still in the same ballpark with HL:A?![]()
It has been established and it won't....
However what may be the case (and it has yet to be established) is that VR support will continue to work for existing flying & SRV stuff even in Odyssey, but not for walking about, and that the transition would make it awkward for VR users so FDev are effectively saying 'assume the worst'. Certainly they could clarify or reiterate.

You bring up a good point with HL Alyx. It is referenced and praised quite heavily as an excellent example of how to implement FPS VR gameplay. However, Valve had a well defined, and narrow scope in which to create an excellent VR experience. I imagine trying to make the experience great for FPS in a sandbox game like ED must be quite challenging. You are aware that it's about 13h singleplayer campaign?
A minority of people get sea sick: Get rid of boats.Really? I have a friend who plays ED in VR For the ship bits, but comes out to pancake for the SRV as 15 minutes of that makes him want to vomit. This is despite trying all the options in settings. Guess some people never get VR wings.
Anyway, since Fallout 4 VR appears to qualify as a good VR game by your standards, I guess the numbers won't look much different for ED. Which would explain the recent lack of enthusiasm for VR on FDev's side, wouldn't it?
Where did I say VR should be removed? Get a grip! People who get seasick can fly! People who have allergies can take medication for their symptoms. People who get motion sickness in VR can play in pancake. Although comparing suffering with allergies to VR motion sickness is a very tenuous analogy on your part. Avoiding allergens is very different to coming out of VR to play a part of the game. Never the less motion sickness is an issue for some particularly in FPS.A minority of people get sea sick: Get rid of boats.
A minority of people have allergies: Ban cats. Ban flowers.
A minority of people play VR, the majority of which don't get motion sickness:
Odyssey...
