Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

OK, you can bind a single key to take helmet off, but it was unbound by default. I'll let them off that one

Just remember to toggle it back on again before going outside...

I seem to have a Freelancer as well. I think it must be a free loan thing, Didn't use it yesterday but going to try doing something with that today

The Freelancer is there to fix the Infinite Loading Screen and Error 30009 bugs if you encounter them...

Should you encounter this issue, attempt the following steps to try to resolve this:

1) Enter the Arena Commander game mode.

2) Select a Freelancer as your ship.

3) Enter the Multiplayer Free Flight mode.

4) Once the session has started, exit the pilot seat.

5) Lay down in any bed on board.

6) Press the Interact key (default is F) and choose Power Off.

7) Select Logout to return to the menu.

8) Attempt to enter the Universe again.

@Chevy66 :

I actually get decent frame rates now.
Turn vsynch off, you'll get additionnal FPS

The UI is horrible. In every other game I just hit one key to open a door. In this I need to look at the door button and hold F while I select open from the menu. Why???
Just press once F, it cast the first command. Holding F is only useful for multi choice objects.

You need to eat and drink, fair enough, you need to take your helmet off to eat, again fair enough, but why do I need to hold F press right click and navigate through a menu to take my helmet off? it should be one key press.
No default key yet, you can assign one with the inner wheel.

I tried some missions. I only have a starter ship as I'm not prepared to pay real money for a better one. Trying to win a fight in it becomes a massive exercise in tedium, I just can't get the enemies shields down. I run out of ammo after about 20 minutes and have to bug out. So any type of combat mission is pointless.
Combat need some practice and you must choose small missions with starter pack.
A good thing is to do some combat in Arena commander before. Most important : press R to switch aim mode to get the gimball mode (dotted circle appear), it gives you assist on aiming, much easier to start. Don't forget missiles too. At the beginning you should set your speed near the marker on your speed indicator.

A good help to learn the keys : https://i.redd.it/kqcmlwrpcu541.png

Don't miss the Cruise control (C key) and Decoupled flight (V key).

That would be strange unless you are already getting good frame rates or vsync is limited to some very low number.

While i'm sure combat does require practice, and nobody should go into a shooty game expecting to be good off the bat, he's in a starter ship, and just about every person i've seen comment on combat in starter ships say its just not a good idea. And that includes comments from major fans.

Turning vsynch off give generally between +5% to 10% FPS for a lot of rigs. I don't know why but it's a common tweak. A less know tweak is to turn off the faceware for another bunch of FPS.

I only have an Aurora (starter ship). You can win a lot of missions below 4000 aUEC. Just avoid every missions with more than 2 opponents. If you launch your missiles at the beginning, you kill the shields it helps a lot.
The starter ships come with just 2 guns. The first items to buy is 2 additional guns. You can mix ballistic with laser or just get full laser or full ballistic. Ballistic do more damage but you can get out of ammo.
Overclocking weapons can be pretty effective too but need a little practice.

A good site to stuff the ship is https://www.erkul.games/calculator;loadout=6BXbHvWN
With good stuff you can double damage output.

Wow, and people call this thread masochistic 😄

Fair play to you if you're getting some play out of the systems though.

Had any issues with module loss / persistence etc regarding in-game purchases?

I haven't really bought expensive stuff so when I loose stuff from time to time, it doesn't matter. Persistence is much better those days but not fully reliable yet. So I'm waiting for it to be better before trying to buy a bigger ship. I think I will try it in 3.10, I really want to get a prospector and it's only 2 millions aUEC.

Still seeing reports of aUEC ship purchases going missing, so yeah, sounds like it's still not in the right place.

Given what they said in that 3.9 postmortem about persistence having played a role in spanking the servers, and the networking improvements targeting 'later this year', I wouldn't imagine 3.10 is gonna be much of an improvement.

Can't wait to see the bartender on streams:

So, that's the ultra advanced AI that CIG have spent the last couple of years working on? The thing that they will use to also work with all other NPCs in game, from ground combat troops to space pirates?

Its damn dialog options and some basic decision trees.

2 years of bigging this up, and not let's forget, all the talk of Subsumption practically since 2012.

CIG really know how to take the simplest things and make them complicated.

I like it. But dogfight is not my main occupation in game.
You might consider making starter money by doing missions like deliveries and such, or getting into a turret in a bigger ship, sharing an asteroid pirate shooting mission (10K a pop) so you can buy better weapons, shields, generators and coolers for your starting ship. The starting equipment is usually bottom tier. Once decked out you can take on these small fry pirates quite easily. The deliveries are the easiest but a bit boring, the co-op shooting can be a small fun session if you find friendly pilots :) i might try the 3.10 to check out the new flight model, i will certainly give turret spots in my Retaliator and share missions so people can get easy money to get going. Well if you can catch me on a 50-player server instance... and i usually do a few hours session until next patch, as there's not much to do apart from that.
