ANNOUNCEMENT Fleet Carriers Update - Patch 3

Supercruise used to be part of the "game play" since you actually had to fly the ship, correcting for gravity wells, and be constantly on guard against interdiction.

Interdiction is super weak sauce... and only applicable in the bubble and only when carrying cargo (mostly). It does nothing for exploration. I would not consider it much of a solution. Nor is gravity wells. Space is big. The chance that other objects will be in your way is small and most at best, simply slow you down for a few seconds. There's no piloting skill needed to supercruise. No real scale between pro supercruisers and new players once they figure out the 6 second rule.

Is it monday yet? :(

Who cares about monday? the update isn't until wednesday.

Dont be stupid. Bad game design is not something any game intends to have. Nobody suggested action all the time. Combat at every corner. You can have quiet and still engage the player in a game mechanic that tests them. No game should go for a dozen minutes of absolute nothing but watching a screen as being useful activity. It's not like players utilize this time to research things that matter wherever they are going next. There's no zenning out at the amazing graphics and sights. It's totally wasted time. Whether such new gameplay would be puzzle oriented or some other kind of skill test... it should be something used to break up the period of inactivity so players aren't driven to youtube, phones, or otherwise afk activities while "playing" the game.

I'll keep demanding that the game be improved to rid itself of these horrible design choices. Because I want it to be a better game. You're free to keep trying to push it to remain the same. It's obviously working out well considering how everyone is always so content with the game and how it currently functions. Forum is barely active (here, on steam, on reddit) in regards to grind / trying to cut out these doldrums and just weak game mechanics for the ones that would be considered action based.
This is damn space. Space is huge. Say thanks you don't fly on chemical fuel. Otherwise just escape gravity out of farming spot could take couple weeks of doing nothing.

If you want play fun space - there are other games like NMS. Nothing real, but fun random happens each 40 seconds.
It's already broken enough to avoid shocks. Once you go over light speed ... things behind u must "back pedal" i.e. you catch earlie light and see back in time position. So pirate coming for you should do weird things breaking your mind. For example at exact 1C it must be black spot behind you, as your eye consumed light already and no new comes. Once you go over 1C things should move back.

You have to learn the difference between exploits and bugs and stop throwing section 3 of the EULA to the face of players every time someone can do weird stuffs because of a bug.

EDIT : FDEV has to fix it, if not then it is a tolerated 'feature' of the game (like many others).
It isnt a tolerated feature and the Eula exists for a reason. Either way its a major issue that doesnt seem to be going a away. The point is many people appear to be doing it from the website but its unclear what penalties are levied.

I did post elsewhere, I have a job that demands full brain activity all day, tons of thinking, tons of decisions, tons of unpicking. A lot of the time I can play ED and just let my brain unwind, zone out. I travel out 30-40 systems into uncharted space. I marvel at the sights, I land on a planet and scoot around. I literally use this games at times as a meditation, to empty my brain, to refill it with calm.

I'm not objecting to any of your ideas, but to have a game where this is possible is a God send to me. So I would ask that any activity you suggest be as optional as many (if not all) od the current ones are.

I agree with you, this is a major issue (one of the many issues of the game).
That said, I still think, for now, that is a tolerated feature as long as FDEV doesn't do anything about it (not even warning players about possible sanctions if they use it).

As always, this is my opinion only :)

EDIT: As I stated in a previous post, the EULA (3c) mostly forbid the use of software, 3rd party tools,...
The players are only using the game as-is, without tempering any the the functionalities offered in-game.
I consider bugs as 'functionalities offered in-game', good or bad, until they are properly fixed.

You dont exceed C in this game. You have a bubble of unwarped space surrounding your ship (otherwise you'd die ) In fact, the entire idea that you see anything outside of your bubble is fake game play-isms. You shouldn't see anything (only the shimmer of your shield protecting your bubble of normal space) and be totally shielded from photons external to your bubble otherwise you'd be dead. All of the photons you're travelling into would accumulate as ultra intense light as your bubble speeding across the universe increases the flux you experience proportional to your warp speed. In short, if you can see outside while traveling at relativistic supercruise speeds, and hyperrelativistic, you'd be fried and dead. It's fake gameplay-isms that allows us to in Elite.

Elite always does the gameplay-ism when having to compromise between reality and design direction. We see it over and over again and that's all well and good. This makes how the game plays during supercruise and high jumps all the more like a failure of something half done ...than an intentional thing one would be proud of creating.

I know when I don't like something I waste my breath on it in fourms instead of uninstalling it and forget it exsists. Maybe you should start a game studio and make your own game so it can be everything you ever dearmed of in a game. Then you can deal with the people who call it crap becasue they have a differnent view of what it should be, for a bit of prespective. Life lesson is You can't please everyone.

"A fool and his money are soon parted"

Apt quotation for the situation...

You can't please everyone, but you can recognize bad game design and fix it when it's your game. And these forums are 100% only for wasting our breaths about the game. Why else would you be here? to sing it's praises ? To wonder why nobody else designs their games with half hour periods of watching space dust go by and nothing happen ? Please.

You can certainly recognize the lowest hanging fruit and look to them as areas that would have the greatest impact to the most players as places of improvement vs whatever nonsense roadmap they've been on for the last 3 years that have done little to correct the things players complain the most about.

Give the initial post said Tuesday July 15th, and then was edited to Wednesday July 15th, there is a possibility that the patch notes aren't going to be here until tomorrow, and they just didn't edit that part. Patch notes posted the day before the patch rather than two days before the patch.

I'm going to go ahead and refuse to read between the lines given the OP seems pretty explicit about it*:

We're happy to announce that the next patch is expected on Wednesday 15 July. It will contain various bug fixes and the patch notes will be added to this post on Monday.

*for at least another couple of hours at least!
