ANNOUNCEMENT Fleet Carriers Update - Patch 3

Seriously, Frontier? You broke mining completely? Even mining Tritum, which is a required in-game resource for players who want to move their Fleet Carriers, is basically a waste of time now. Plus its way more difficult to buy that same resource. Brilliant. slow clap

...
Venting aside, I'm seriously disappointed with the lack of forethought on this one. Nuking the problem doesn't solve it. Simple market adjustments along with the exploit fix could have easily take care of re-balancing mining money making.

What you should also do after you fix this is bring Combat and Exploration closer to (though probably not match) Mining in earnings. Combat non-mission bounties could use a boost of, say 50% at least. Some non-wing missions could also do with a boost. Thargoid bounties too. Exploration could also use some treasure hunt mechanics. Create special one time hotspots in systems or planets that drop some random and very profitable commodities (like tens of millions or something) unique to exploration that are redeemable at specific bubble or Colonia stations (some players might even just collect them!). Heck, make them rare, too. It would make finding them a ton of fun. Plus it would bring explorers back to the bubble while also allowing their Fleet Carriers to take care of exploration data.

I haven't read the foregoing posts, so forgive me if I am making someone else's point. First, I don't believe anyone at Frontier Dev plays ED very much if at all. If they did, we wouldn't have half the problems we currently are experiencing. And who ever the idiot is that nerfed the mining ought to be fired as far as I am concerned. Was the mining of LTDs needing an adjustment in price, yes absolutely. And that is exactly how it should have been nerfed! Reduce the price to half or less but keep the game play the same. Some of us really enjoy mining and the feeling of filling our ships. Now, forget it, if the reports are accurate. You idiots destroyed a very enjoyable part of the game. You have succeeded in turning mining into the grind that everyone hates about this game. Can you(Frontier big wigs) even imagine using 100 prospector limpets and finding only two rocks with less than 20% of what you are looking for? Disgusting and unforgivable. Mess around with the price but leave the game play alone! Tritium mining is a joke and again you nerfed the wrong thing. Explorers need tritium and they need to be able to mine it so as not to use all of their time mining. They are explorers! If you played the game you might understand, which you obviously don't. There needs to be a complete rethinking of using Fleet Carriers for exploring, i.e. less tritium needed per 500Ly jumps and more tritium in hot spots for mining. My final criticism is the Mauve Adder error. This is making the game completely unplayable much of the time. I have had 8 of these errors today and it is totally frustrating and ruining whatever enjoyment I generally have with this game. Fix this mess, Frontier! Otherwise, many of your customers will be playing some other game.

So this patch did not fix the Orange Sidewinder server connection error right?
That is correct. It says this in the original post:

Stability Issues

Players may find they are having issues with being disconnected from the game when loading into systems with many Fleet Carriers present. We are aware of this issue and are working towards a solution in a future update.

Well. I can play again. Still have the SERVER ERROR IP ADDRESS CHANGED IN MID SESSION and then having to sit and wait while the game finally recycles and gets connected.
So far 3 for 3 getting both ships in PG and into Wing. Again a bit clunky as there seems to be a lot of lag between the wing request and the receipt and then the indicator showing winged. Also lagging for the wing signal to show up in the scanner.

BUT

Now the DSS is again not showing the parts of the bodies that have been scanned by the probes.

Does this happen for you on all size planets? I just finished mapping three systems and never had the problem with 6-probe planets or above in size. Those smaller need to be approached more closely than I usually do to get them to show the mapped areas, but for those I don't need to see the mapped areas, my established shot patterns work 100% of the time.

So now that I've actually decided to try playing again and give the new mining mechanics a shot, they get nerfed? Way to keep me playing other games, Frontier devs.

Yep I have the same problem when my ISP does a refresh or something and the IP address changes, one of the joys of having a Dynamic IP Address.

Well said. I'm playing something different until this grinding garbage is done.

* SPOILER ALERT*

NEW LEAKS from the upcoming Elite Dangerous Oddysey expansion:

Apparently, the first mission of the upcoming highly anticipated Odyssey expansion finds you inside a futuristic shipping container inside a Type-9 spacecraft. In order to earn your way out of the container, you must first use your cadet space toothbrush to meticulously polish the inside of the shipping container to a high gloss over a period of 36 real time hours in pitch blackness. Upon successful completion of this task, and in high anticipation of using your newly found “space legs,” you can begin to explore the vast interior of the Type-9 cargo hold. For a mere 24000 ARX, and as an incentive for new commanders, you have the ability to customize the color of your toothbrush!

Stay tuned for more Elite Dangerous Odyssey info!

Humnnn... I think it only happened on the 2 probe bodies and since I have a G5 DSS it was simply annoying.
That said, I don't remember distance from the body determining whether the GRID lines appeared other than 3-4 patches back when it became routine for there to never be grid lines.

Strange that it ONLY happens during log in, BUT, my ISP sent out a notice that has this very confusing couple lines in it.>>> "Additionally, the most prevalent type of network traffic being reported through the AML management portal is identified as Content Delivery Networks and game services. These are not business or business-related uses. " I guess I might need to talk to them. I didn't sign up for a "business service" and I don't stream any videos.

I'm just going to go ahead and mirror what everyone else is saying.

Based on tests done by some colleagues, and some brief tritium prospecting on my part in a double hotspot, y'all really reduced efficiency of overlapping hotspots WAY too much.

We're currently out in the black, sticking to a strict fleet carrier jump schedule for the DSSA initiative, and this has thrown a huge wrench in the gears of progress.

I hate to sound salty, I really am not, but I am kind of down and disappointed with this patch. The hotspot rebalancing as advertised is definitely not what we got.

PLEASE consider revisiting the balancing. I am 100% for a better balance between single hotspots versus overlaps, and even the properly working supply and demand (it will keep us miners on our toes and encourage more teamplay I think). But what we got today is largely discouraging for most of us.

Sadly, I have to jump on the tritium mining in the black sucks bandwagon. The reduction in single hotspots is so severe, that it more than doubled the time to fill the carrier. Before the reduction, carriers were minimally viable for exploration groups of less than 4 people. At this point it would take at least 6 people (probably more) to fill a carrier with tritium in a reasonable amount of time. Luckily for me, there is no return voyage... I have an approximate destination for my carrier. It is only approximate at this point because the earthlike that was there when I went through on the first Distant Worlds trip is no longer there. I will be leaving the Emerald Tablet at the nearest earthlike to that system. (Forever) I do really mean forever. When I get back to the bubble, I plan to generate enough support cash to leave the Emerald Tablet there for 20 years without my ever having to log into the game again...

Thing is, I used over 150 prospector probes in a triple overlap and found zero LTD rocks. None. Its not reduced efficiency, its totally broken. Tried a tritium zone and got barely better results. A whole 16 tritium for another 150 prospectors. I have no words (that I can use on this forum) for how disappointed and angry I am about this.

I enjoy this game most of the time, but I'm just tired of what increasingly feels like pointless grind. I was mining because it was the most efficient waste of my time that gets money, so I don't have to do even more boring and time wasting grind elsewhere. Some work should be put into earning credits, ranks, and gear but even that work should be fun in some way. Instead, I just have a bunch of cookie cutter crap missions with no depth or story to it. Seriously, would it kill you to type more text lines or record more voice acting for NPCs to give it that depth? Maybe some more random radio chatter? Perhaps revamp and add similiar depth and fun to that atrocity that is Powerplay? Frankly, the only part of the game I'm not totally disgusted with is exploration and even that needs alot more depth to it. See my previous post for how to improve that and make it more of a fun treasure hunt.

What I want to do right now, is go out into the furthest parts of the galaxy and just explore to my hearts content. That's why I grinded damn mining so I could gather the ships I wanted, load them onto my Fleet Carrier, and just head out into the deep black. Its why I really play most of this game: to be an explorer. This garbage patch now makes that effectively impossible since I will need to mine Tritium along the way. I can still take my exploration ship by itself instead, but then what is the point of the Fleet Carrier? If this is intended gameplay and isn't changed, then I might as well sell the damn Fleet Carrier and just head out in my explorer ship and ignore that FCs ever existed.

I played for 5 hrs today. No stutter in stations, no screens freezing entering or exiting a jump sequence, no ctd. No problems at engineers.
The smoothest gameplay I've had in ages.
KUDOS to FD.
Unfortunately still the same lag for me. Coming out and going in to Supercruise mode at Ray Gateway, Diaguandri, the screen still stuck at the loop animation for up to 2 minutes, but luckily no Orange Sidewinder connection error, yet (post-patched).

Hey Fdev, this ^^^^^ is your playerbase. These issues are what players have been asking to be fixed. You listening?

You ask for feedback, we give it to you multiple times, patch after patch, expansion after expansion and we wait to see if you actually are listening.

You need to get your collective heads out of your as.....sand and address your player base. This grind needs to stop, this entire failure of project management needs to stop.

At this rate by the time oddysey drops, you wont have any players to enjoy, read: buy, it. And continuing this behaviour doesnt inspire confidence that you can pull off odyssey anyway.

I really dont know what else will get through to you.

I honestly cannot fathom how David Braben is OK with what you are doing with his creation. Its absolutely disgusting.
