Notice GalNet changes

Oh god, you support the people's princess? With all her on-again, off-again wedding melodrama, and her faux-caring act?

Just when I was starting to think you were cool.

;)
I was one of "them". ... Well for 3 weeks. ... Even got up to Rank 3 right before the last week ended. ...

I'm fairly amazed they didn't implement some kind of "DM Client" for the narrative teams to use either.
As someone who has worked on such a team for another MMO in the past, these really boost player engagement, and require minimal effort once implemented. Just whack a simple to use frontend on a string of commands like NPC spawning, etc.
ED may not have dungeons you can spawn, and link to unused doors in the world, as part of an event (although it should be possible to spawn custom signal source instances), but they've done persistent story characters like we used to with ones like Drew's Salome account, and that was always a big draw for interaction when we did it. Honestly though, this is something that needed to be a part of the original KS development side by side with the game, when it's the least additional effort to implement it. It would have provided a bunch of additional utility for things like supporting CGs with unexpected additional events.

I'm glad to see some attention on this point:

Obsidian Ant calls it out...

Yeah, I came across his vid last night and was gratified to see one of the big Elite content creators call Frontier out on this. Again, I am assuming (hoping?) that Frontier has scrapped all non-essential effort on EDH because this version of the game is going to become functionally outdated when Odyssey launches early next year, so they are not wasting any time or effort on it. Having said that, from a player's perspective, it is a terrible idea as it undercuts some of the excitement and goodwill you would otherwise receive from your community that is now largely happy with the core game. Not to mention it just looks bad for a dev to take popular content out of a game, especially after promising a new direction for that content (from CGs to IIs, with related GALNET news). As I keep saying, would it really cost all that much effort just to post a single bit of GALNET news per week? Just one three-paragraph blurb to keep the launcher looking relatively active?

I truly hope Odyssey also launches a new direction for the game's development because watching Frontier torture Horizons for the last few years has been a frustrating experience that is more befitting a part-time project rather than a AAA game-as-service experience.

From last night's livestream ...

"Galnet and community goals currently are not in our roadplan ...
but if that does change or if we do decide to bring them back in we will let you know"

Source: Twitch

So, I'm afraid, as I rather suspected, it seems the surprise Galnet article which dropped with the June fleet carrier release (the one about nanomed's) was nothing more than a lost article that FD found down the back of the sofa when they were sweeping up the last of Galnet's rotting corpse.

He didn't mean "roadplan" ...

"even tho' Galnet and Community Goals aren't part of the game currently right now doesn't mean they're not going to be in the future ... doesn't mean they definitely are in the future ... it means we will announce if we bring Galnet and community goals back"

Source: Thursday's Livestream

Thanks for clearing that up @Stephen Benedetti, so as many people have been pointing out, nothing has changed - fair enough. Careful with those words tho! You know how we love to draw meaning from them! :geek: (and I don't think I should feel bad for passing those words onto a community that might have missed them ... should I? was I wrong?).

P.S. and sorry but I did take a snip off this stream too, but only because it rectifies the previous snip I took!

To be honest its answer like this that get FDev into trouble. "whups we see you're alarmed - please don't be even though we have absolutely new information to add about everything we removed over a year ago and then went radio silent on."

It's been a year. Its precisely because FDev won't commit any real information to these features that we speculate. And to be honest "we're not removing them - we're just not working on the right now" is kind of a non-answer.

A timeline? Even a rough estimate of hopes and dreams.- What about a dev just steps up and say "this is what we want it to be." to give us an idea that our wishes and their goals kind of align.

Because right now the talk is that FDev are so into Odyssey that nothing else is going to matter for a long long time. Another year? Two?

Presumably, FCs are not ships?

By definition...
'fleet carriers are massive ships'

Hello Commanders,

Our galaxy is filled with a plethora of stories, places, and people, which are all part off the rich canon of Elite Dangerous, explored through many of our GalNet articles.

While GalNet provides an understanding of life in the 3300s, it hasn't always had a direct impact on your gameplay. We have been reviewing the effect this has had on your in-game experience, along with your feedback, and as a result, we’re going to be reducing the number of GalNet stories that we produce and instead focus on covering in-game content.

In the foreseeable future, GalNet articles will concentrate on in-game activity, such as Interstellar Initiatives, the release of new ships and modules, and significant narrative developments. With this change, we will be stopping the 'off-camera' narratives that we have previously published via GalNet.

We hope you have enjoyed the many stories that we have told, and as always please share your thoughts and feedback with us.
This is absolutely fine with me, and I prefer the stated plan for GalNet going forward.
Is this something that will receive some automation via Odyssey update?
If not, someone at FD need to start the new GalNet writing now, why is it dead in a "live game mmo"?

As soon as somebody at FDev "hopes" a date or feature will arrive, they are crucified when it doesnt happen. This thread is testimony to that. They are damned if they do, damned if they dont. I'm not surprised they treat silence as the best policy....no, I'm not on commission! :)

The problem with Elite is that it is a victim of it's own success. It is a fantastic piece of work that draws in so many different player bases, including age ranges and personalities that probably would not consider themselves gamers. That means, instead of a normal game that appeals to a specific demographic, they need to appeal and keep the interest of many demographics. This just isnt sustainable, but if you want to try, you have to keep the bucks rolling in, to pay for additional developers, writers, etc. That means priority calls that not everybody will like. Tough. You cant please all of the people all of the time.

I actually feel a little defensive of FDev on this thread atm. Of course I have my frustrations, but their product has given me 34 weeks (in game) of pleasure and many more days in the forums.

I'm a part time author, with a number of published books. I get 2 reviews for the same book. 1 says 5 star excellent the other says rubbish. Should have done this, should have included that. You sit back and think....all that work, for people to be so negative for no real reason. I got a 1 star once, because of the picture quality of screen shots....on a kindle. I mean seriously? I dont do the publishing/production, or design/make kindled. I just write it.

Anyway, this thread is reminding me of this feeling, and I feel a little defensive on FDevs behalf.
