Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

So, an update about the roadmap update.

Have CIG been taking lessons from FD??

As someone on spectrum said, CIG have turned into the thing they always proclaimed to hate, a AAA game publisher hiding behind marketing talk.

Anyway, will repost what i just wrote over on the refunds sub

Ah, i see. There are no roadmap updates for SQ42 because a) spoilers and b) what is done for SC is done for SQ42.

So, from this we can infer:

Major gameplay features required for SQ42 are still not done because they don't exist yet in SC

AI is still not ready for SQ42

Elevator Panels and floating seaweed are obviously a priority over things that are really needed for SQ42

and that led us to the realization that we still didn’t have the right footage, at our quality bar, to tell the story we wanted to tell.

What they do have is poopoo and can't be shown.

We didn’t get into such details as sick personnel

Oh no, employees getting sick. Clearly the reason for the delays. And it must be hitting CIG much harder than every other company out there that is having to deal with this stuff on a daily basis.

How can they still be struggling with their roadmap months and months after initially talking about it?
They had a problem: things on roadmap fail to be delivered too fast for them to update it.

You just got what Holy Roberts said wrong. He doesn't hate game publishers who milk users dry, he hates not being the game publisher himself.
Whole point of this saga is Roberts milking players himself and not having to share with anyone.

Funny article by AU kotaku that boils down to "fudsters are on the loose, why CI-G hasn't used COVID card to delay SQ42 and quell them yet?"

Blows my mind. Zyloh said nothing. It was hot air. "It wasn't up to our standards. We have a new roadmap...that isn't ready." It is the same whatever we've been hearing about for years.

And there are over a hundred citizens eating it up like the last supper.

Sure enough, CR is still nowhere to be found. I'm seriously doubting the future of this project.

After all, we don’t like to make excuses.

So ...
  1. Give an explanation of the goals of our new Roadmap and what to expect from it
  2. Show a rough mockup of the proposed new Roadmap
  3. Share a work in progress version of the Roadmap for at least one of our core teams
  4. And then finally transition to this new Roadmap
We’ll approach them in the order above, and we’ll likely need a few weeks between steps, so I don’t want to create the impression that this is happening overnight
4 steps ... a few weeks (let's say a month) each ... that's December before we have a Roadmap for SQ42 ... don't hold your breath for the beta

The recent SQ42 video update, which is a brand-new show we were debuting called “The Briefing Room,” was a lower-effort video that we embarked on with the goal of sharing more information with you but in a scrappy and fast manner,
Hmm. So the idea was a new scrappy video series - from a company that later on admits they don't do scrappy & fast. Really this is a management issue - when someone proposed 'scrappy and fast' they should have pointed out the high quality bar (for vids, obviously not for gameplay) and scrapped it then. Instead it's hobbling on in people's spare time (!). And it has already failed. If a 'scrappy and fast video' requires b-roll and audio rewrites it's not scrappy and not fast (and also not a series - even of 1 videos - at this point).

The player trading app where you send other players credits is new in this patch.

Lets say I have 100,000 credits and you have 0. This is the current exploit.

I send you 100,000, and when I hit send, I press the send button as fast as I can.

The transaction will repeat a few times (usually 2 or 3), so you end up with 200,000 or 300,000 and I have zero. (well, there is a 5% "fee" so you actually have a little less, but keeping the number simple).

You send me 300,000 and press send as fast as you can.

Now I have 1,200,000 credits and you have zero.

Keep going until you get sick of it, or you overflow the wallet and go negative.

One day Chris will invent transactional processing, but not today...

I think even them can see the writing on the wall. They have lied so much that they can't afford to show the reality of S42, but if they spend effort on faking yet another demo/preview/teaser, they'll increase expectations even more...

Anyhow, that credit transfer exploit is shocking. This is such a lazy implementation I hardly can believe it. It flies in the face of basic database concepts that go back to the 80s.

Now, what is a database concept anyway?

OH HECK YOU ARE RIGHT!!!!!

BETA ANY DAY NOW BOYS!

Now it really doesn't make sense they are worrying about a silly road map!
Unless seaweed buyoancy clogs the pipeline.

Isn´t that a roadmap for the roadmap? Peak SC? :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, this is much more damning to me than the usual hot air "update" - they've apparently made an in-game banking app without any concept of transactions or ACID. If anyone still thinks that these are top-tier developers just being hamstrung by bad management, well...

I m surprised the latest flurry of reports and videos havent been posted yet. Is the positive fluff footage drying up?

Kotaku with yet another "going for the throat" hit piece: Even Star Citizen Fans are getting cranky about Squadron 43

Massively overpowered with a rather small statement about SCs (lack) of development progress, I doubt it ll even get comments

And Inside Gaming beating the red headed stepchild yet again but truth be told I think they are rather well behaved

Is this the global hate for Star Citizen acting up? All the people with envy and bitter lives trying to kick downwards to feel good about themselves? Most news outlets seem to ignore all the wonderful gameplay and visuals Star Citizen has to offer and only focus on the ugly things...how petty of them. No wonder the world is in ruins if this is the average human behavior demonstrated....just hate on innocent, well-intended, totally-not-a-scam indi projects.

I think its rather the logical consequence after letting this carcass lying around too long. It starts to stink and even if you try to ignore it....the smell will reach you without drastic steps on your part. I m sure SC fans will raise objections pointing to all the nice, new and super fun stuff you can now do but if nobody else picks up on that, chances are....these new, fun, super fun things are not as new, fun or super fun as the fans think they are. The bartender for example doesnt really scream "superior AI code allowing awesome things" and the same goes for the currently existing gameloops. Sadly enough the prison gameplay has been SCs latest major content update and it doesnt look like CIG followed up on that in any way.

I m also sure that if CIG would have any video material they would just show it. Regardless of its quality. Star Citizen is pretty well known to push out patches and even live video demos in horrible states so with the current pressure from the community and raised eyebrows of the greater news world CIG would show whatever they got. If they dont, the list of possible reasons for that is pretty slim pickings.

This SC fan (enabler) is a good example of someone finally having enough. It sounds pretty tame and he describes himself as optimistic and being "okay" with how SCs development goes but he absolutely bashes SQ42, something he self-admittedly doesnt even care about. I guess its just a pressure vent from his rising frustration that he seems to be unable to admit. With this kind of mechanic going on (german term would be "Kurze Lunte" not sure if "short fuse" would be correct term in english) its no wonder that the SC community produces such a toxic environment.

You are really angry at CIG for their shortcomings or lies but you cant put em on the stand because that would risk ending your dream so instead you lay out all your anger and frustration at the next target piping up. And here comes the innocent bystander daring to ask questions, not showing the proper level of respect and with a few short questions laying bare the dark ugly morass for everybody to see. Oh yes, this guy is gonna get it for sure. Its HIS fault, people like him, simple haters, despicable sad human beings. Some people have received threats of violence over speaking their minds. I dont believe they are frabricated claims. With the level of vitriol and toxicity I can witness myself I m pretty sure physical violence would have errupted by now. Because of a frustration that is born and fostered by CIG and people know this....some just refuse to admit it.

So many games just....exist and keep going. Providing entertainment to those people who enjoy whatevers offered. Theres a really large list of games, highly rated and considered "good" that I am simply unable to get into or draw any enjoyment out of. I dont bother with them. I dont focus on the games that are not my thing. Pretty much every game on the market receives scathing posts or reviews from individuals who behave entitled or personally offended by something the game does or doesnt do. Its the spectrum of player reception and usually these extreme reactions are rare and dont really affect a games overall rating or reception. People make up all kinds of things in order to discredit games or "hurt them" but most of the time the game itself defends itself because of what it does. None of em needs this "protection" that Star Citizen receives and that people have admitted to offer when they start posting here. Worse, while discussing the topic it becomes more and more clear that all the fabrication and "intentional interpretation" only goes on in the pro-SC camp where people even after years of confirmed lies, failures and shortcomings have utter faith and keep hoping for the best possible outcome.

The most common defensive reaction is "but I m having so much fun" meant as a justification and primary argument to win any encounter. But its hollow and this far in shows additional levels of information probably not intended by the person making the statement. It could relay that you are new, unaware of CIGs rocky history and of course, the new generations dont care about the hardship of the previous ones as long as they can benefit from their labors. It could be a benchmark for the intensity of self-delusion that is at work to allow the vision (especially when claims of professional expertise or similar is stated). It could also be a concession of acceptance when you realize its a dead horse and it also stinks like one but you take it as what it is and try to glean the most out of it. You are stuck with it anyway right?

At this point of time "I m having so much fun" really has no informative value whatsoever in regards to the projects quality. I wish some people would understand that. If they did they would realize how hurtful it really is to the project rather then helpful. Not trying to impair peoples right of self-expression but some wonder about the level of "attacks" they receive when they make that statement as if this place doesnt allow fun to be had in Star Citizen. Nope, thats not the case. Its simply unimportant in the course of discussion surrounding Star Citizen which is.....is the development making the right choices and is Star Citizen shaping up to become the game that was being promised back in 2012?

Certainly doesnt count for every skeptic, doubter or critical person but I believe the people who really care about the project are the ones who speak out against it or dare to point to flaws and mistakes. People who go on the barricades against attempts to be shut down and who keep going even when punished. If all you do is to accept everything, disregard the bad and only see the good and you "protect" the project from any criticism because that could hurt it somehow....you are nothing else then an enabler and in part responsible for the current state of Star Citizen. Yes, there are a lot of people who by now seem to have a personal bone to pick with Star Citizen and its community but this again is a creation and effect started by the very same community that now suffers from it. There really is noone else to blame.

Its correlations and synergies that dont appear on peoples radar who just take a look from time to time or pass by because of some flashy screenshot somewhere. But I m following this project for 7+ years now. Knew about it longer but its that long since I got involved emotionally by investing time and effort and it allows me to recognize Star Citizen for the monstrosity it is today...and also to understand whats going on with people who might be completely unaware of what they are doing.

Isn´t that a roadmap for the roadmap?
This is an ALPHA!!
I think the hot air balloon is deflating faster than they can put more hot air in. With a flappy, wet noise - a bit like a fart. Some may take that as fidelity, but I don't think they fool as much anymore like they used to.
The deflation, despite being in early stages, already punches above its weight! This is actually a good sign!
