Once the dust settles gamers and dev companies will probably show more than niche interest.
You mean big studios like <deep breath> Rockstar (see L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files & their forthcoming "AAA Open World VR title") or Bethesda (see Skyrim & Fallout 4 VR) or E.A. (see Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One & Star Wars: Squadrons) or Respawn Entertainment (see Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond) or Ready at Dawn (see Lone Echo & Echo Arena) or Valve (see Half Life: Alyx) or Sanzaru Games (see Asgard's Wrath) or ILMxLAB (see Vader Immortal) or iD Software (see Doom VFR) or Rocksteady Studios (see Batman: Arkham VR) or Ubisoft (see Star Trek: Bridge Crew & Transference & Space Junkies & Eagle Flight & Werewolves Within) or Capcom (see Resident Evil VII) or Insomniac Games (see Stormlands & Edge of Nowhere & The Unspoken & Feral Rites) or Skydance Interactive (see The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners) or Codemasters (see Dirt 2 & 3) or Sony (see Iron Man VR)?
I think you missed my point
But there isn't a betamax or VHS scenario that is what you are not getting.
This is more like oled Vs qled Vs nanocell ... Which ever you prefer it's not like you can't watch media on all of them even if ultimately one of the formats die.
Betamax users.were screwed when their format died just like hddvd. That is not the case here. Oculus could shut up shop tomorrow and I could still use my headset on steam
And even if they add vr it's not that you can't play the game anymore. You can still play it as always.Eveyone has a PC or Console and the capability to play the game. Not everyone has VR set up. You can still play the game like us non-VR plebs.
My point is that you can delay buying pretty much anything* in perpetuity because something better will always come along.
Hardly a valid comparison as Apple failed to support a common standard, although you can almost guarantee that Apple won't support OpenXRThat's what the mac gamers said.
That's not a good comparison. That's what the mac gamers said.
That's not a good comparison.
Apple still supports OpenGL, it just hasn't been updated at launch (several times).Hardly a valid comparison as Apple failed to support a common standard, although you can almost guarantee that Apple won't support OpenXR
Neither is anyone else.I'm not the one arguing against the possibility of backwards compatibility not being implemented in pc gaming. The best and constantly ongoing example of customers being regularly thrown under a bus along with old hardware/software.
In related news MS of all people have shown it is possible to mak a decision and then change it due to customer feedback
MSFS 2020 has gone from No VR in December 2019
To OK we will do our best but no promises and an it won't be at launch
To Probably not at launch but it is a top priority and we have people actively working on it
To the new annoucement VR coming this autumn. Initially for the G2 which is their primary platform but other steamVR headsets coming after

Microsoft Flight Simulator VR Support Confirmed For Fall, But Only Windows MR At First (Update)
Update: Originally this story reported that VR support was only coming for the HP Reverb G2. Now, developers have clarified that it will actually support all Windows Mixed Reality headsets at launch and is coming to other headsets/platforms later. The original post has been completely edited to...uploadvr.com
Puts the "gah not at launch" kerfuffle into perspective doesn't it.
“Right after the E3 trailer came out there was a lot of people making that exact assumption, that ‘oh yeah this better be supporting VR right from the get go’. It honestly wasn’t our plan. But we are listening, and we heard it, so we will try our darnedest to make it happen. Whether or not we’re going to pull it off for launch, we can’t commit to that at this point in time, but we are aware of the desire […] We will try to prioritize that over other things.”
Microsoft is the typical company that does things purely for profit. If even they realized the market interest for such product sorry but there's nothing else that can be said against VR implementation.Puts the "gah not at launch" kerfuffle into perspective doesn't it. I wonder if their change of heart had anything to do with the announcement of openXR's launch.
On the negative side microsoft have repeatedly been in legal poop over exercising a monopoly so market dominance/standardization might have unexpected repercussions.
It certainly puts your ‘VR campaigning is pointless' position into perspective![]()
Yeah I'm sure noted megacorp microsoft did it just for them and not as advertising for their new software announced yesterday.
Lol, are you seriously arguing that they're adding VR purely for the bonus media attention?
Are you seriously arguing they did it because of some whinging ?.
The difference is MS said long ago , soon after their feedback to them not planning on VR that they were fully committed to VR and had people actively working on it. IF FD would commit to that it would make some happy. Problem is FD use the same "not at launch" carrot all the time, for example PS4VR, NPC wingmen, NPC crew, multiple SRVs, landing on new volcanic world's (yes I remember that little nugget in one of the horizons revels) as well as SRV / SLF / mothership Multiplayer play in multicrew.Puts the "gah not at launch" kerfuffle into perspective doesn't it. So I think it is quite understandable why some feel (myself included) that FD have spent up all their customer faith of jam tomorrow and want more firm commitments before spending any more cash
If MS said they were fully committed to VR and had people working on it the celebration at them just announcing they'd gone with VR wasn't actually a switch of direction, sounds far more like people misconstrued an earlier announcement confusing "not right now" with "never" and got grumpy for no reason.
Which sounds somewhat familiar.
