Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Uhh, that stopped happening when the Calders put an oar in. If you believe the Agent that's already muddied up their business as usual. And yes they already ran out of money and the project should already be dead, that why the Calders are here (putting pressure on).

I've seen no evidence for that, in fact quite to the contrary. It's more "business as usual" than ever from a financial point of view. Their monthly funding donations are higher than ever, easily covering their operating expenses. In fact I'd be surprised if they're not also making a tidy profit this year. Their dream business model rolls on stronger than ever, and will continue to do so while the backers do what the backers do.

It all just makes speculation of Calders dumping in what, 46 million? that much more interesting. What did they see to warrant investment. Because if it wasn't finished sellable product and its just digital assets sales (Maybe the tier one upgrade to land The Agent touched on), that reinforces the scam point, to me at least.

This is like getting drip fed a nice series or tv show. Depth, drama, a possible dark underworld under the guise of a space game... How will it turn out? I love taking time off from this thread and coming back after a few weeks or a month and seeing what turns and events have transpired. Its a hell of an interesting ride.

I almost feel guilty, out of all the entertainment and interesting read time I've gotten and never having to had put in a dime. If anything Ill have to log into Elite and buy some more skins to show appreciation for them making this thread aka the show possible.

Its fun to duck over to Spectrum and scope out the scene, its pretty generic though and doesn't have the character level or personality of this place.

Underlying these questions is the assumption that wealthy people are smart and very wealthy people are very smart. This is incorrect.

True but I imagine (That's all I can do lol) having money gives you access to people who are smart. If I was going to casually drop 46 mil into a video game, I would do some home work, or at least pay someone to do it and fill me in.

That implies one has to believe what the funds tracker say though.

I thought due to previous documents the companies produced they were shown to be operating at a loss, or is that just what they say on the surface and actually turn a profit in the back room?
Indeed, hence the requirement for said investors to have a certain say in dev decisions (ie where to spend the money) and in cost control (how to spend it and how much).

If the tracker is to be believed (or if the investor believes it) the cash inflow for returns is definitely there. What you need is a prudent oversight (reduce costs and limit scope to reasonable levels) to create decent margins. If an investor thinks he can provide that then investing can be a good idea.

you've already answered your own question in the last page, the calders are doing shady business/money laundering scheme with ortwin and therefore cr, other explanations are weak compared to this; this is it, the whole thing is a de facto scam operation.

I really want to see what happens with the land predictions. The Agent is a wonderful character in all this, I hope we get more juicy insider nugs.

Perhaps they had seen a good demo of SQ42 giving them confidence in the future success of the game ?

or perhaps they were deceived in standard CIG practice:

"The last time we demoed the game, it was heavily scripted. [QA] had been playing it for hours and hours, getting the right route [and content]. The investors wanted it live, so nothing pre-recorded like we are used to sending. Everyone got really quiet when [they] asked if they could play it themselves and not follow the script at all. Almost immediately after the controller was handed over, they crashed. [Someone in the meeting] nervously laughed. I think that was the day we lost a lot of confidence with our investors and they started really looking at our progress."

it's actually more interesting to know who The Agent really is.

erm, and continuing the discussion with the perspective of seeing the project as pretty much a scam now... you could say that, ever since the calders joined in, the project progress trajectory is arguably getting worse and worse in all areas except the one thing that matters the most only for the scammers : incoming money, ever since they joined, the game development side of the project has gotten even more messed up with each passing time but at the same time there's that inexplicable miraculous recurring phenomenon which is the apparent continuous soaring influx of money somehow.

coincidence? should I wear tin foil hat?

"easily covering their operating expenses"

No, they are not. This year, only two months were able to cover the expenses for sure, May and June, with January possibly being in black too. We know how much they roughly spend because of 2018 financials - and it's a lot. In 2017 they were already spending cca. 4 million USD per month, and that's before inflation and their growth - today they are almost certainly near 5 million USD spending even after dropping to ~500 people from the peak of 600 employees.

And yes, that's spending 60 million USD a year for unplayable alpha. In 2018 it was reported that 2012 to 2017 they've spent ~190 million USD. Over 2018 and 2019 they've likely spent at least 120 million more. There's certainly below 100 million on their account, and dropping every month that's not as big as May/June; July in particular was a loss of few millions for sure.
