IGN article stating Odyssey is NOT the final update to elite

"putting the framework in place for future updates"

Its like being in a time machine and going back to version 1.0 again. Less bone and more meat please, either that or confirm features in versions prior are going to get love after all these years.

yeah...

It looks like Frontier have succesfully built another foundation to build on.

Someone buy them some bricks.

There have been quite a few whiners proclaiming 2021 is the year Elite development stops. It's incredibly funny
2021? I've only been on here a few short months I've seen many proclaim it's long since dead and not even Necromancy can salvage it.

They haunt the forums because...hope...

Yeah that one baffles me

Main reason I'm posting this is it seemingly didn't get caught by our supersleuth @StuartGT, and it might otherwise have gotten swept aside amidst the hype from the dev diary and the additional stream in the evening, and there's been some chatter on here wondering if Odyssey is the end of an epic journey for elite?

Well... according to this article, it's not the final update for elite, instead Odyssey is only putting the framework in place for future updates.

🙄 So this is the excuse now for Odyssey possibly being bare bones in new content at launch, after waiting for going on five years for another major update? Is this a joke? What have they been doing all this time?

Good catch. 100+ developers will have to go silent again, because they've been commissioned for Odyssey part 2.
The designers are probably working on it right now. Let's start speculating :)
The game isn't dead, new content will be added. We have our top men working on it.
What men
TOP......MEN.

Well, it involves space legs. Everyone knows you must crawl before you can walk. 🖖

And after all this time, the most we have to look forward to is walking and being a botanist..And that's acceptable to you? The game has been crawling since it was released. When is it going to start actually standing? Entering and exiting a ship does not count.

Yeah ok, it all sounds promising, but rather vague at best. Like I just told another dude, they will have to explain exactly what they mean by "giant leap forward", and "spheres of combat", and "social hubs", and "diverse settings", and all the rest of that fluff. If they don't do it in the blogs, then I'm afraid they will lose many more fans long before the update is even released. If they don't give us a road map of what the plan is for this game starting right now, they aren't giving this new project much of a chance of success.

Right now? At 4:44 AM (in Cambridge)? I think you need to slow your roll a little. We already know that they intend to continue releasing information over the coming weeks and months. If people decide to leave because that isn't quick enough, well... I think the forum will be better off for it.

By right now, I mean before its release, in the blogs they apparently have planned....not later on after release. We need tangibles, not botany, and "exploring". Don't use big words like "Giant Leap Forward" if you ain't gonna back it up and actually make it mean something.

Someone should suggest to FDev that they do a few Dev Diaries in which they show and discuss the new features.

Yes, they'll have to start discussing a LOT more than simply roaming around desolate planets on foot being a botanist, and they have to do it now, not later on next year or whatever. After looking at all the stuff they claim they wanted this game to be back in 2014, what they have shown so far isn't even close to acceptable.

FDev stated in their recent RNS posting that Odyssey is scheduled for launch in Q1 2021. Assuming that's March 2021, that'll put Odyssey's launch at 7 months from now. It isn't even available for pre-order yet, let alone live on the servers.

FDev don't have to tell you anything yet 😂

Yes, because everybody knows an echo chamber always produces the best game development... oh, wait! The toxic response of NMS ensured a massive turnaround in what, two years? vs the white knight brigade of that other star faring game that has allowed it to languish in alpha for far too long, promising new pick your nose technology being added to the ever growing laundry list of things to be included in the game...

If they feel that they don't have to tell us anything, they wouldn't be doing blogs. There would be a wall of silence. 🤷‍♂️

🙂 Couldn't have said it better myself...This is yet another case of "be careful what you ask for".
