The dingo is a poor choice no matter what way you look at it.
I suspected we'd get the cassowary over the emu, even though I'd prefer the emu, but I'm very disappointed by the dingo. I've worked hands-on with dingos at Wellington Zoo and while they are beautiful and entertaining they are far less interesting and far less important to conservation than myriad other Australian species. Of course I'm talking about the Tasmanian devil first and foremost, but other popular choices such as the echidna, or wombat, or even the yellow-footed rock wallaby would have been more worthy inclusions.
I'm fine with the blue-tongued skink - there's one in an enclosure a few metres away from me in my house right now, named Lou (or alternatively Grumpy, she's got attitude) - but they're also at the lower end of the scale when it comes to 'iconically Australian'. The frill-necked lizard would have been a good choice, or the social huntsman spider.
This is probably the first time Frontier has dropped a DLC and I've genuinely hoped that they will revisit the region again in the future. Although the Arctic wolf felt like a copout, I was happy with the polar bear in the Arctic Pack and that was really the only animal I desperately wanted from the Arctic, and from South America my biggest wishes were the jaguar and a new world monkey, which we got (and yes, I did miss the capybara like others, but it wasn't enough to make me desperate for more), but this time as soon as I saw the word 'dingo' my heart really did sink.
Of course they'll still get my money because they know that they can rely on most people's desire to have a complete game to sell their DLC, but at the very least I can voice my opinion on it.
In any case, there's no denying that the pack, as usual, looks beautiful, so big props to Frontier's development team.
