thus far, the 2019 flu season hasn't killed one. Hmmmmmm
Uhm, actually we've got some pretty solid figures on flu deaths to date from many countries. It's been headline news in several places such as Australia, that the same measures which have reduced transmission of the SARS_CoV2 virus have additionally reduced cases of flu so far this year by a similar proportion. Because unsurprisingly, when you take measures to halt transmission of one respiratory virus, you impede transmission of them all.

Regarding the concern about long-term risks of a vaccine. A vaccine is just a way of administering an attenuated virus (or part of a virus) so that your immune system can develop antibodies to it. It is your own antibodies that give you immunity to the virus; they form a library that is copied at a low base level over time so that you can quickly produce more copies if you meet that virus again. The vaccine/virus itself is metabolized and excreted; it doesn’t stay in your system. The vaccine isn’t “hanging around inside you” for decades so there’s nothing there to cause long term harm. It’s something we’ve been doing for hundreds of years since cowpox inoculations, it’s safe, and its well understood.

Regarding masks; they help. Viruses are not “the size of an atom”. Like all life on earth (acknowledging that viruses are not technically “alive”) they are made of atoms, and so have meaningful size, though they are not as large as bacteria. Masks help because these particular virus particles are being spread inside water droplets from people’s breath. Wearing a mask makes it harder for that droplet to find its way into you mouth and nose.

Key concept: you don’t typically become infected with a virus from inhaling a single copy of a virus; instead you need to inhale (in this case) multiple copies before they successfully infect you. It’s something termed the minimum infectious dose. Masks help by reducing the amount of virus you inhale, and hopefully keeping it under that level; that’s why masks don’t have to be perfect to be beneficial, and why they are used so widely in medicine.

Conspiracy theories again.
Here are some more Conspiracy theories.

So we can still smoke, inhale polluted air, no issues there, we can also drink until we tilt, nooo problemo, but did you take your fly shot then all hell break loose, 😂 yeah not going to happen.

I'm not totally clear on the point your making, but I think it's "why worry about coronaviruses when cancer kills more people?".

Sadly once people acquire multiple mutations it is incredibly hard to cure their cancer, though we continue to strive for more advanced treatments.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't try to prevent other diseases in the meantime.

His point is that the concern (superstitious hysteria) over covid is purely manufactured. The citizens of the world blithely traips about doing their daily business without a care for things that kill vastly more of the population... until authority figures tell them to become concerned and then they fritz out.

Well it is sadly not superstition. Its a real disease that has killed about 180k Americans so far. Its a quantifiable, measurable, detectable zoonotic virus.

As for hysteria I'd certainly says there's active, serious concern about keeping it in control.

Oh dear gods, the fact we got this post:

Here are some more Conspiracy theories.

Immediately after this post:

Unironically....

Yes. That is literally part of how we get cancer dude,
1598488511194.png

Cancer is as "natural causes" as death gets, because it's inevitable that oxidative damage is gonna happen to our cells if we just live long enough.
Doesn't matter how healthily you live, sooner or later live long enough and if nothing else gets you, it will.

But sure,short-term there's plenty we can do as a society to reduce the risks of it. Trouble is, when money comes into it.
We do what we can to prevent factors which can make it more prevalent, but just like this pandemic, if enough businesses with the lobbying clout demand to keep making more money, they get their way and those attempts to keep the number of those dying to it down get hamstrung. Ironically, there's where you can look for a "conspiracy", and it's not even that. It's right in the open. Those responsible go on TV bragging about it.

Crikey, that's an old one! So what do you make of the scientific evidence?
Obviously more testing needs to be done on the potential long term negative effects of aluminium in vaccines.
If I had very young children I would wait as long as possible to vaccinate and opt to take 1 vaccine at a time instead of multiple.

So you note that the author is talking about premature babies with renal insufficiency? How do you account for the reduced clearance?
