VR support 'not at launch' for Odyssey

I bought FS2020 on Friday and while it’s pretty, it’s basically unplayable for me because I’ve gotten so used to playing simulators in VR.

People without VR just don’t seem to understand what I gigantic step backwards it is to go from VR to a monitor. I didn’t mind taking the plunge and buying it without VR support because Microsoft have COMMITTED to adding VR as a top priority and I’m going to love it then.

From my experience with FS2020 I know there is not way I’ll want to play EDO on a monitor.
I tried to play ED on a monitor and it was literally and figuratively "flat".
I bought drive club on PS4 (not the vr version as in do not have a psvr headset ) this is a game I would have loved back in the day. I sunk a lot of time into MSR and PGR but I played for maybe 30 mins and will likely never play again.

Same with Forza horizon. Those games on PC look right up my street but without VR I know I would be wasting my money.

You can definitely legitimately argue VR is a double edged sword. I Imagine in the 1940s People loved their 7 inch black and white TV set. Imagine forcing them to go back to it however after having 5 years on a 70 inch colour one!.

As for MSFS. I am deliberately holding off till vr is in. I want them to see a surge of sales.for VR.

Shame really. The premium version was £77 on cdkeys a.short while back

I really hope that in the next future all videogames will have a basic native support for VR. Something pre-compiled in the directX or similar.
Then things like this thread of 170 pages will be history and there will be no concerns anymore for VR.
At least SteamVR makes the basic integration (on a rendering and tracking level) of VR to a game already pretty easy. Most of the effort is still with the devs making a game playable in VR.

It appears there will be several other thing missing besides VR like walking around in the ships. But I would rather have VR than walking in ships.
Because the latter is pointless, because there is no reason provided by ED to do it.

I'm on record somewhere as commenting that there seems to be more "missing" from Odyssey than is included in it...

Odyssey VR - Negative
Walking in ships - Negative
Walking in space stations - Negative
EVA Space Walking - Negative

Well whats the frickin point?
You should be happy, that you can walk now for 5 Km on a mostly barren plant, but now with some atmosphere, to scan some space cactus. Edit: While walking you can contemplate about other activities, that reward you most likely more than a thousand times better.

In terms of new features.for me it is less about WHAT they are and more about them being fully implemented in a rich detailed manner. FD have shown they are not good at implementing a MVP feature and then building on it
.
So rather than space.legs, base building, ship interiors AND thin atmospherics all done to a basic level I would rather have less but more fleshed out.

Whilst my personal choice would be EVA and exploring wrecks in space with ship interiors rather than legs on planets myself the latter could still be really good esp if there are caves and stuff. But time will tell.

All of this is on the basis of VR coming back of course which right now is anything but certain.

As for the new planets to land on.... No complaints from me there at all, that is rather cool no matter how you slice it imo.

Judging by the track record of the game, it seems that the major "feature" will be half arsed, buggy and devoid of any meaningful and/or fun game play loop. What might bring me back to the game temporarily are the new ice/planet shaders. Other than that, it looks underwhelming and I could not care less for walking around planets shooting at the same lifeless procgen items that we can already to in the SRV, which itself has not seen any love in donkeys years.

CMDR Thrust seems to be highly thought of here how would he be privy to this kind of information.
I trust everything CMDR Thrust from Bradford says. I'm thanking my lucky stars (the ones that aren't black holes) that I for one have not wasted all my time and money supporting a developer that no longer regards VR as anything other than niche. CMDR Thrust from Bradford would in no way lie, or embellish, the truth.

Good enough for me.

Great if true but does this "Thrust from Bradford" have the authority to confirm something like this?
Yes, but unfortunately we won't be getting anymore updates from him. CMDR Thrust from Bradford stopped playing Elite in 2025.

Rumors say that CMDR Thrust from Bradford kidnapped Greg.
Other rumors say that CMDR Thrust from Bradford IS Greg.

I truly believe that the truth lies in-between.

By Jove, I think you've nailed it! That would entirely make sense, yes. Because, how would he know these things if he wasn't involved with Greg in some way.

It would also explain why this thread is now 171 pages along, and there has been no further meaningful information from Frontier- Greg has returned to save us all and they're going to surprise us upon release!

I shall now let off a small firework in celebration- look out!

I know from sarcasm, but the issue I have with the VR removal is that they supported it even before it was niche*, when it was only hardcore supporters of Palmer Luckey and his vision.
Probably before the bottom line was all that mattered. They say you can tell when the money men finally take over the company...

Wherefore art thou - Mr Brabens enthusiam?

And yes, I do know what niche means but I'm making a pointed point :)
