Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Also, Ben does work for CI¬G, which isn't really a point in his favour. :p

Hey man if its close to home and it pays, who cares if its possible. Keep collecting the check. I'm sure the actual employees did everything they could with the dumpster fire they got thrown into. No flies on them.

I love knowing at least one CIG employe reads this thread and maybe goes out drinking after nightmare days and probably laughs about it.

I hope one day when all this comes to an end (90 days tops!) we get a giant recap over the history of it and which of us had it pegged and which of us was way off. Itll be great to one day get the pure inside scoop from someone as to how it really was behind those space doors...

Maybe we should start a pool. 🤑

My posts here have always been my own opinions, but I don't try to answer for or undercut people I work/worked with/for. As for toeing the company line though, uh... I actually don't work for CIG any more. I have a new job starting next week, so when I continue to appear whenever someone types the number 32 or 64, you'll see that I still have the same views ;)

Oh heck!

Congrats on the new job.

I meant more in terms of opinion about the company/product. Unless you want to say you would have agreed that CR/CIG had been telling pork pies to backers. I somehow doubt you would do that even after leaving CIG. Its generally not considered wise to publicly bad mouth your employer ;)

Also, congrats on the new job!

does a google... Ben Parry, new job

What? Shroud of the Avatar?!!!! Ben! No! :D

I absolutely agree with everything you've said here. All I'd argue is that (assuming equivalent quality) the end result of that assembly is going to be pretty similar to buying a license for a commercial game engine, maybe a few more annoying things that don't match up and a few fewer things that are messily coupled together when they shouldn't be. That said, I've never worked on something that was built that way.

Congratulations duder, and I hope you have a great time in your new job! :D

You'll note that he still didn't comment on the album. :p As AA said, publicly commenting in such a way on past employers is also generally considered bad form...

Congrats on the new role Ben, wherever it may be! May you continue to create shiny shaders and glorious gas clouds. 😄 (assuming you're staying in the same sort of role!)

I love the intro speech of latest CouldHeBeSaltEMikeAgain Answer The Call episode:

"Let's be honest guy, the game feels pretty much... humm... dead [laughter]"
"It's actually kind of hurting my Star Citizen's Experience, is like playing games that are somewhat polished really makes Star Citizen look way worse than when you only play Star Citizen"

Touching moment to see someone put his rose tinted eyeshields down.

My fav quote of his was a couple episodes ago and was something like 'Why is everyone so sad when they finish the call?'....

...errr, because they realised in the conversation with you exactly how delusional you still are and they are really sad about it but don't have the heart to tell you? I mean, they did try but you showed your delusions over and over again and they just gave up. You let them down Mike, you built their hopes up and let them down, thats why theyre so sad and why people shouldnt hero worship egotistical YouTubers or anybody for that matter.

Im still recovering from the same lawyer info, I thought that CryEngine had ignored their lawyers advice, thats what my original comment meant, I cant believe they didnt get independent legal advice, they must have been over a barrel? Were they in 'trouble' short / long .term and CIG was the 'Angel' investor who would save them?

Always get independent legal advice which actually means a legal expert working for you and advising you. Not someone advising the other side as well regardless of how much you trust them, always get independent advice.

Pfft, ITS ALPHA! He clearly doesn't understand fidelity development.

Perhaps he should take a break and play other games for a while.

Oh, lol, that's what make him realize how bad SC is. Playing other games lifted the veil of delusion.

They were in deep trouble. Actually about to go under, they didnt pay employees for a while, and the bosses got caught in legal trouble (cant remember the whole timing of all this, but it's prior to the kickstarter). So yeah, that was seen as salvation I suppose... That's also why they got rabid at CiG moving away from their core engine as it meant lost publicity (supposedly... that's considering SC would have been released). It's also the reason how CiG got a hold of their employees so easily.

You think? Anthem might be a clusterfest but even that has more results and looks better then SC today plus...they do have a working and released foundation, disappointing as it may be and continue to work on it so it will only improve. Another point of achievement SC doesnt have.

Anthem is dead in the water. Allegedly they are redoing the game but it's pretty hard to rebound from that abysmal launch. And just like SC they pulled their own roadmap of unfullfillable dreams. Anthem deflated rapidly - the only thing they were able to deliver was one of the major events. And it was actually more than a differently coloured skybox - I was surprised. However, for a looter shooter you'd expect to find interesting loot. That part was never BW's forte - it was story (barely non present) and gameplay (flying is actually fun - the rest might have suffered from brain drain and troubled development.
