Question for Open players who don't like PVP/ganking... help me understand

10% success rate isn't much to rave about. I wonder what the 'going to PG' percentage is?

Rather hard to say. Certainly many of us have expressed a desire for more git gud attitude, but after years we know it isn't likely in the playerbase. But again, going to a PG is good too. Curating your experience to match your expectations is a power FDEV gives us in this regard. There isn't a shame in using PG when you feel it's appropriate. If surprise PVP is something you want to avoid, it's a perfect tool. If system chat is any indication in places like Borann/Borann II and the Painite system, interaction has only grown significantly even amongst those cut off from the Open game mode by choice.

More generally, the ganker community has a wide variety of whatever personal motives. Simple majority is just pretty explosions from things that aren't NPCs. Deciat is just one of the highest traffic systems in the entire game, largely due to the utility these days. For applying multiple experimentals in a single trip, it's a great stopping point to reduce engineering time as a whole. And seeing someone brand new in a Sidewinder or a barely fit Asp is a rarity for most of us. The number of Condas however is nuts.

What bugs me about Deciat is what I said before. No-one replied, which makes me think I'm on target.

Maybe someone of the ganking persuasion would now like to admit it? Choosing to gank at Deciat - it's because that's the first engineer the game points people to out of the starter zone, isn't it? Before they know that ganking even happens? So you can meet inexperienced players who aren't expecting trouble, in weak ships before they've done engineering. Am I right? And the extra spice is: they may have just travelled many jumps carrying a meta-alloy which they spent some time finding?

If there's some other powerful reason for choosing Deciat, I'd like to know it. Because otherwise, the only reason I know of is a very discreditable one.

It's a numbers game as simple as that. Inara traffic numbers from today from the 2 G5 FSD engineers in the bubble Deciat: 4800, Khun: 900. If you are looking for any kind of organic PvP Deciat is the better choice. That's why founders is a hotspot too, lots of traffic.

Who is saying they don't like it? I'm genuinely enjoying each and every response.
Excellent, you just seemed to be getting a little tense there.

I think what seems to be happening - from my perspective, and I could be wrong - is Ian has answered a number of questions more than once but you don't seem to have picked up on the answers, and then ask them again with apparent annoyance. For example:

Wait - so you do think it's OK to engage in "not agreed upon ahead of time" PVP?
I'm pretty sure Ian has said he has no problem with ganking, he's said it multiple times.

For me I've also said many times, gank away. I just find the rationalisations for seal clubbing amusing.

Every time I think this thread is dying something else comes along, it's entertaining.

I am saying you can just GET AWAY from gankers in the game (waking out). You don't have to GIT GUD (you must have missed the WHICH IS FINE part). That is the option. Then you can focus on GITting GUD at mining or whatever your fancy is.
I hope that clears it up for you.

It does, thanks :)
I got confused cos my original response to that Cow guy that you quoted me on was in context of him going on about 'git gud attitude' that he's just mentioned again.

I just think it should specify 'git gud at ganking'. Cos there's lots of things you can git gud at. Even gitting away, as you say :D

If you want more people to 'git gud at ganking', it's a tough sell clearly to 90% when actually, y'know...ganking them doesn't seem to work.
That doesn't seem like an open and welcoming community advertisement, tbh. Just sayin'.

If you want challenging PvP, surely there's better ways of going about the business of attracting more people to the playstyle than just irritating them and seeing them either ignore you, block you or just chip off to PG/Solo. I legitimately do not know. 🤷‍♂️

How benevolent of you.

I have been okay with that since december 14th 2014. There are weapons on your ship, there is a trigger on your stick. Your fingers, your choice. I'm not going to police the fingers of 200,000 cmdrs, I'm just gonna make sure my fingers make sure none of that negatively impacts my little Adder.
Thank you for confirming, I was honestly unclear where you stood on it.

EDIT: An no, I'm not trolling!

I personally enjoy your replies, even more so when I try to imagine what it must sound like in cranky Scot. As a Californian myself, you must understand that such things bring me genuine enjoyment.

I'm beginning to fear that my attempt to hear feedback in this forum - and add comms, the friend requests, the hopefully helpful feedback, etc to my gank routine - has been transposed into a belief by some that this is somehow a psychic way in which I try to make amends (for a guilty conscience or whatever).

Note - not saying this is your belief, thistle, just saying I'm sensing it's been said in more or less veiled terms in a few responses from a variety of people.

To any so disposed to indulge that belief, rest assured:

I feel no guilt for playing the game wholly within the rules, and blowing up whichever and whatever CMDRs that I can or desire to, while in Open play.
However, I do not agree that playing in this admittedly callous manner has to also preclude me from sending friend requests, offering sincere feedback and tips, and the like.
Those are not offered by way of compensation, or as a means of rationalizing behavior.

Let me be clear: I do not need to either ask permission nor make apologies for my actions, so long as I play within the rules.
I can choose to also send friend requests, and offer the advice, simply because I like to. In much the same way that I like to blow up other people's spaceships.

That's my position, such as it were. No rationalizations needed or offered. Just what I personally like to do.

I also like to hear about what other people think, though, and that's the purpose of this thread. And I continue to appreciate all responses.
