Nvidia 3070, 3080 rtx. no excuse for VR removal, discuss.

these graphic cards are stupidly powerful compared to what is currently available, so gpu power is now ruled out as to why they are removing VR from odyssey, surely frontier has know about these cards for a while, or if not do you think this will change their minds?

Frankly no.
The rub is nausea.
VR causes it with locomotion. Assuming your not strapped into a device that suspends you to a degree. How does fdev switch from sitting down cockpit mode to upright standing locomotion, which in turn don't make u feel sick?
That is the problem.

do you actually have VR? VR legs are a thing. the is hardly anyone who complain about sickness these days who has VR. thousands of games. with zero nausea. but best example would be no mans sky seated in ship no nausea. standing on planet no nausea. flying with you jetpack no nausea. swimming under the sea no nausea. thats just one example.
but lets say some do have nausea what about the people who have spent thousands on VR rigs specifically for elite dangerous and are willing to man up and get over any nausea VR in odyssey would bring.

I am pretty sure they never said the problem would be performance related, so I am not entirely sure what we should discuss here. There are several possible reasons why VR is not available:

  • They want to focus on the flat experience before adding VR because that's their biggest market
  • They want to launch Odyssey in Q1 2020 and adding VR support would delay the release
  • They aren't sure how they want to implement the VR support yet

from what i have read. the current vr implementation took 1 guy called gary 1 day to enable. and apparently there are over100 devs working on elite.

ask frontier they would have the metrics for now many people play in VR.
I fully expect that Frontier know what proportion of the player-base play in VR - just as they will know what hardware players are running the game on.

That knowledge may already have influenced their decision making in relation to whether or not to prioritise implementing ambulatory VR in Odyssey.
