Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Yes and some optimisations are coming with Vulkan.
You mean that API that might come at some point in the far-flung future when they're done “looking into DX11.1”? :ROFLMAO:

I'd like to archer a simile someone made somewhere else as far as graphics tech goes: while CI¬G are still struggling to get ready in the starting blocks, they're being lapped by the closing ceremony parade.

If the criteria is no bugs from hab to lift off, im with LittleAnt on this one. Can't remember the last time I had a catastrophic bug doing that.

However, right after lift off with the hangar doors closing too fast or the guiding tube thing not showing up at Lorville, now I've had those. 🍻

For @Mole HD a good detail on the difference between gen 11 API and gen 12 API.

Another one :

It's not proof that SC will have a huge boost in framerate with the switch to Vulkan. The gain in FPS should only be important if CIG rework deeply the way CE/Lumberyard works. There is no benchmark, only dev talking about some changes they work at. But at least, there should be some gains for sure.

Without SSD, you have a whole collection of bugs only related to your slow HDD.

Different hardware does not magically create bugs. Slower, sure, but bugs are bugs no matter the hardware. Do you mean unplayable choppiness, stuttering and slow hidden loading times?

More manure.

Everything can "be coming" at some undetermined time. The end of the actual solar system is coming.. in about 1.8 billion years.

Talk about things as they are now, not as they may or may not be.

It'll gain marginally more FPS for those that remain fascinated by the little numbers in the top left of their screens...nothing more. The faithful can then boast that they clipped through a ship at a whopping 55fps rather than 40fps I suppose. Meanwhile, we're creeping ever closer to November 19th when Star Citizen becomes not only mildly irrelevant but wholly irrelevant in gaming circles both current and future.

Ci¬G had better pray that it takes more than a year for CDPR to add the multiplayer DLC for CP 2077...hardly likely, but we'll see.

What do you mean? The next milestone is near the end of this month, when the new SC backer standard for minimum acceptable hardware comes out in the form of the RTX 3090 😄

All of the backers that want one will have to sell an Idris to buy it though...I'll stick with my twin SLi RTX 2070 supers...sold my 4 year old GTX 1080ti to buy a second one...and got change :)

Below minimum requirement hardware create bugs. At worst, a game don't run at all. Agony_Aunt have half the memory needed.
Below the RDR2 message when you try to run it à 4Go (half the memory needed).
Your computer does not meet the minimum recommended Memory (RAM) specification. The game may have trouble running if you proceed.
A superb crash (not even stutter or bugs) of RDR2 after just 11 seconds (and its a released game) when ran on half the memory needed.

He absolved himself, took the money and ran.
Don't forget... Chris Roberts used Hollywood Accounting and dozens of shell companies.

He doesn't have to run. He can just sail off into the sunset.

I just talk about bugs not performance. The minimum requirement is 16Go. You can find the telemetry here to know hom much FPS you can expect from your system.

There is only a warning about memory, not about the SSD.
There's no warning in the game at all about memory requirement, I just tried firing it up with an old 8GB stick...we're not talking about what Ci¬G claim on their website....they claim lots of things :)

I will also play on a laptop and I've had a memory warning pop up if I had other stuff running. Laptop only has 16 gigs of ram.

Whilst I was fitting a new 950w PSU to my machine and removing the old 1080ti liquid cooling rig, I ran the AC Odyssey benchmark on ultra settings using both the 1080ti and the 2070 super on my wifes machine (i7 6700k, 48Gb DDR4)...hence why I sold the old 1080ti and bought another 2070 super with the SLi kit. I was kinda surprised...didn't expect the 2070 super to overshadow the 1080ti quite as much...

1080ti results...

By SC's own tool, average FPS for the recommended configuration is 39.6fps.
Loading times have also more than tripled from 3.2 to 3.10.
Progress?
Yes, the average FPS is pretty slow.
The loading time increase patch after patch but also the memory usage. And the size on disk increase too.

There's no warning in the game at all about memory requirement.
I've played with a warning of "you only have 7.8GB" for 1 year. Yes there is a message, I don't know why it doesn't appear on your system with only 8GB.

What on earth in the name of the holy gods of DIP and ZIP is chewing up 30.3Gb?

And why on earth does the new launcher need a captcha????
