Ok, for free flyers i can understand. But for existing backers, why make them jump through hoops?
I think they're hinting at the release date with that.
Ah, so they know how many backers are playing free fly and interested in using the free ships.
They can use this data then to determine which ships to sell next!

Did that...although it's a new one on me. Probably to get figures for the marketing snakes to assess how much cash they're likely to make from ship sales. In other news, the org spamming in global chat is getting ridiculous...when I say orgs, I mean just one lonely guy in a basement with no real life or friends looking to enter easy street having other minions do all the work whilst he buys ships he can't really afford or be bothered to go out and earn the aUEC to do it himself.
I have one rule with orgs...you gift a Caterpillar to my SC account...I'll join your org, otherwise go away. Not that I need another Caterpillar of course, but it's the principle. They want me to run cargo to make them profit, they can damn well tout for my services up front with a company car.

To be fair I think this topic has tons of evidence suggesting it is not too unreasonable to expect more “stones“ going in one directions than the other (talking about project and project management critiques here). The more delays and issues that continue to appear the more justified the stone differential. I think the minority of stones in favor of SC is perfectly and proportionally represented by views such as LittleAnt, Sovapid and Mole as example among others.Except this topic is nothing but casting stones, every day, every week, every month for year after year. So the 'nobody is perfect' excuse falls rather flat.
I do not think we are discussing a neutral topic at all or something where the evidence could mean the debate could go either way.

For me the only game where I've needed SSD placement was Wargaming titles (WoT, etc), because on HDD and with best graphics I used to connect to the game roughly around the end of 30 seconds counter, sometimes after the game started. On SSD I usually have to wait before the counter actually starts (i.e. majority of the players are in the game).
Anything else, no need. Even Doom Eternal has been greatly optimized.
That has been rule for a long time. I have collection of computer magazines from 1980's. One had interview of game developer who made games for C64. He said, that essentially making game was two phased job. First you make runnable game. That was the easiest part. Second phase you optimise it to be playable game. That was the hardest part.
Of course nowadays PC developers can kind of cheat on that latter part by upping requirements but that restricts amount of possible buyers for your game.Well, CIG releasing the BDSSE might do something to reduce the stone throwing.
There is nothing wrong with stone throwing. Olympic games even feature javelin throwing. That is far more dangerous.

Father of my friend is a doctor, and once saved life of a guy who got wounded in freak accident involving javelin throwing. Even modern sports javelin can be formidable weapon. It penetrated easily chest cavity of victim, and nearly punctured his heart. Luckily first responders did not try to remove that javelin, but sawed it so that they could load victim to ambulance....only if you chuck the javelins at other people...especially if you don't give them a running start to begin with
At my school sports day, many moons ago, one lad running around the track got hit in the shoulder by a javelin but it fell out. This was before the invention of health and safety. So they carted him off to hospital and the rest of us just carried on. Ahhhh! Happy days.

See this is why barbs were invented. You should have complained about the substandard equipment.
